All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

WTAF is going on here? My phone is missing all the above posts after Hatwoman's about the pony - then I get home and they're all on the pc. Very puzzled.

Off to gym soon, first time in a week. Dreary weather here, but no snow or gales (yet).

monkeyLFDTwench · 08/12/2011 09:10

Oh and Cilla .... nightmare. Anyone else reckon the Scouse accent disappears once the cameras stop rolling Hmm? Only managed 5 minutes of Buzzcocks before I turned off in disgust (yes yes Cilla - you knew the Beatles - we know!)

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/12/2011 09:34

hi - hope our Scottish runners haven't blown away! What a day. I'm actually pleased that I can stay in all day and do housework....

peach it must be hard to be so far from your family now .

ange running club must have been bloody freezing! Very Xmas Hmm about making you queue outside in this weather. And FWIW, I did about as well in my first nativity as your DS did. Actually worse, I spent it in tears on the the teacher's lap Xmas Blush...

Fanny you did so well on your first go at running club! I do hope you are able to run in the league race. This could be the beginning of something great Xmas Smile

rhet good to hear your night wasn't too bad. Do you use a sling? Both my DDs loved that (as did I Xmas Smile) and it would quiet them down when nothing much else would. Apart from that, just what the others say.

hat well done on pressing the button! Hope you do enjoy the course (tho I doubt it will be as good as a pony Xmas Wink). Do you have to go in a lot or is it correspondence/coursework?

possum I have also turned into spotty muldoon - but only on the back of my neck/shoulders Xmas Hmm Just when I might actually be going out in nice clothes Xmas Angry. Bloody hormones (assuming this is what causes it). Hope goes well with your boss (tho do you have to tell her/him even before you know whether your application is successful - because of references?).

So, I have a pressing engagement with the Dyson and the Mop. Sparkling home beautiful here we come (DP will think he's got the wrong address when he's back tonight!)

rhetorician · 08/12/2011 10:37

am reeling slightly to discover that we can't get A her bcg until Dec 20 - services are so stretched it's not funny.

She had a good night and is now sleeping - in the pram...

sfxmum · 08/12/2011 12:05

fanny got the snow thingies thanks

hat well done, new beginnings

rhet glad night went ok

peach lovely that your dad had company it must be so hard for him

bored here baking and trying to tidy and study while waiting for delivery

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/12/2011 12:06

that's not good rhet (I mean about the services). It's so hard to see how things are going to get better at the moment.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 08/12/2011 13:22

Yeah, our bcg appointment is 26th January!

Stay safe, lively Scottish running friends (presumably not running today!). All my nieces and nephews off school. Sounds mental up there!

monkeyLFDTwench · 08/12/2011 14:57

Just off to collect the boys - not lookig foward to driving in this weather. Hope all our Scots and Northern gals are OK.

Got my snow trax - cheers fanny!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 08/12/2011 15:29

Oh howl howl, am I the only one whose snow trax haven't arrived?!?

Did anyone have a very sicky baby? K has been bringing up loads of milk after feeds the last couple of days. She doesn't seem to have any pain/trapped wind, just milk comes back up. It is getting very messy! Can't remember if DD1 did this.

ibbydibby · 08/12/2011 15:29

Hope all those in windy parts are ok. Sounds horrendous, from what I have seen on the news. Windy here, but not excessively so (yet). One of those days when I would like to be looking at the sea - preferably sitting inside a car! V dull and overcast.

Have suddenly found myself hosting family party at weekend - was supposed to be at my sisters, but her MIL is in hospital, and not coming out Sad. They have had 2 middle of the night emergency calls so far this week, so just not sure what they will be doing at weekend.

No running club again for me tonight as DS1 has school concert in draughty church. We froze there last year. DH was working late last night, and going away for work Christmas function tomorrow night - so hoping he might stay at home with DS2, who is not a lover of things musical (yet). Shame for DH, but I think he could do with a night in.

Rhet hope you have a better evening tonight.

RunningAllDay · 08/12/2011 16:14

Oh peach yes I had this with DD1. She would bring up one in three feeds - the WHOLE lot. I think she just sucked for comfort and sleepiness and didn't really need it (she was a very fat baby), and used to just vom it all up then nod off. Very very messy and very very frustrating, esp in the middle of the night. I have absolutely no solutions - so sorry! But she grew normally and never had any pain from it, so it wasn't an issue for her. Just for me! Good luck - hope she grows out of it soon!

monkeyLFDTwench · 08/12/2011 16:38

peach yes ds1 was a very sicky baby - and he never took much in to start with. We were given two types of reflux meds by a consultant but that was more because of concern that his weight gain was pathetic. As long as K is gaining well they are unlikely to be concerned so don't worry, just keep an eye on the weight.

ibby what happened to your sisters MIL? On the draft issue, I can't stand a draft round my neck - take a couple of scarfs. And wear thermals! And would mulled wine afterwards be OTT?!

rhetorician · 08/12/2011 16:54

ibby turned out to be an OK night in the end apart from that hour or so...she has put back 60g of the 220 she lost after birth (and judging from the amounts, almost all of that was meconium).

weather completely wild here; glad to be tucked up inside with meatballs in tomato sauce simmering on the stove...

backwardLFDTpossom · 08/12/2011 17:50

Weather here totally wild, driving to and from work was a bit of a nightmare. Oh and joy - blizzards forecast for tomorrow!

Thanks for the good wishes re the job, folks. I told my boss today that I applied for the job (sticky yeah it's because of references. I could have asked them not to contact her until interview stage, but I thought I would be honest about it!) - she didn't take it particularly well because I'm obviously irreplaceable! Wink But she'll just have to get over it... I feel like a huge weight has been lifted. :)

peach DS was a very sicky baby, and suffered with terrible colic. I was going completely loopy and no medicines or anything were making any difference, so we took him to an osteopath and after 2 sessions he was like a different baby. He wasn't sick near as much and the constant screaming (think 1pm-10pm of constant wailing unless he was feeding! ugh...) stopped pretty much overnight. Miracle!

monkeyLFDTwench · 08/12/2011 18:09

+60g sounds good. So do those meatballs. On my own tonight, DH at another party, so I never bother cooking for myself just bagels and smoked salmon, it's like a little ritual.

That "leopard" hold (think it's called that, where you lay baby lengthways along your arm) was always good for ours, especially ds1 who had terrible reflux and colic. I had one of those wonderful mei tai slings for ds3 and he loved it plus I got a constant chance to sniff his baby head and nuzzle his baby hair.

monkeyLFDTwench · 08/12/2011 18:16

Quick question, tell me honestly if you can do this as I'm wondering if there's something wrong with me!

It's from SWSP. Side plank with lower arm straight down (so body weight resting on one hand), top arm raised straight up. So only parts of body on ground are one hand and sides of feet. Then lift lower leg with knee bent and move it backwards and forwards, keeping top leg straight.

I can hold the side plank just about OK with a bit of shaking and cursing but lifting that lower leg is just impossible. Have tried it, and I just get a worrying grinding and clicking feeling in my pubic bone area (if you've had SPD you'll know what I mean).

runnerstipple · 08/12/2011 18:58

peach I'd put a second vote in for seeing a cranial osteopath. DS2 was really possety and took 6 weeks to get back to birth weight. He used to only sleep pretty much lying at 45 degrees. Once he hit 6 weeks he started screeching every time I tried to feed him, although not at night. After several weeks of visits to the HV and GP and pretty much tearing my hair out someone suggested cranial osteopathy. It was like a switch being flicked. From the very first visit he stopped screaming when feeding although it took a few sessions to sort him out entirely.

Monkey I fell over trying to read your post and do the move. I just about managed it second go but for about 2 seconds.

Now for rubbing: I managed a four miler this morning, with a new approach to pain management for my (still buggered) hip. Two nurofen an hour before running seemed to make all the difference, although I'm not sure that its a medically sound approach. However, after a painful three miler on Monday today felt like a revelation. I've been panicking that I'm not going to be able to get fit enough to do Cambridge in March, but with the drug and run approach I think it might be feasible.

Hope no-one gets blown away in this weather, we seem to be getting off pretty lightly here (East Anglia). Its peeing down (hurrah!) but not too windy.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 08/12/2011 19:10

Thanks ladeeeez! I think I will get her weighed next week and mention it to the health visitor. As long as she puts on weight and isn't in pain then am sure it's fine. It seems like she's bringing up loads but then, you don't know how much is staying down, and she seems happy enough, no crying for example.

Will keep cranial osteopathy in mind though as we took DD1 for her "colic", and it seemed to make a big difference.

RunningAllDay · 08/12/2011 19:20

Thanks monkey - forget hips and PSD - I think I have just broken my knee doing your move. I no longer have Shred envy.

fannybanjo · 08/12/2011 19:57

monkey I'm sure one side of us is weaker than the other, usually the opposite to which hand we write with but with my mild scoliosis, when I did side planks on my left, it was nigh on impossible to do them as my spine curves more to that side. Are you sure it isn't a back problem?

orange you getting nervous for Stockport 10 mile? I am bloody gutted that I'm not doing it.

peach no sign of Trax yet? No advice re sicky babies, I found though that breastfed babies do gorge as they love the comfort. Is K eating too much?

rhet hope your evening going ok....

sticky how you feeling after your 14 miler?

This race for running club is Borders League. Anyone any experience of it? I think I'll wait and see how I feel Saturday before saying for definite as I'm very tired tonight.

LSR planned for tomorrow, may be 13 or 14. Not sure yet. Need to definitely get my mileage up to marathon training level over next month. I'll add on extra day of running, just an easy one with some HM pace miles in it.

fannybanjo · 08/12/2011 19:59

runnerstipple if nurofen helps it sounds inflammatory? Hope it gets sorted.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 08/12/2011 20:31

Hopefully trax arrive tomorrow! fanny, she doesn't seem to be feeding all that much as is always falling asleep when feeding. Today has been tricky as she feeds, spews, falls asleep, but then doesn't sleep very long as maybe hungry? Repeat! I should have taken her out in the pram for good sleep but was too tired myself!

fannybanjo · 08/12/2011 20:40

Sounds like she's getting too much foremilk and not enough hind milk? That can unsettle their tummies from experience. Are you emptying your breast at each feed? I always offered mine the same breast if they dropped off on a feed. Then swap over.

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/12/2011 20:41

monkey I think this is the one problem of doing DVDs at home - you can't see how other people are coping! I had a similar thing on the Davina DVD, where all the Davina gang were happily doing bridges with one leg in the air and then moving their hips up and down. Eventually I found another woman at work who was doing it, and finding that one pretty impossible. If we'd all been in a class together, then it would have been obvious that it was a bit tricky totally impossible

Sorry I didn't say earlier to monkey and ibby thanks for your answers on marathon mileage. So what was it like on race day doing that last 6 mile stretch - did you feel it as a "new" bit or did the race carry you along?

Peach both of mine were horribly sicky, I think because they were greedy and just liked sucking like fanny mentioned! Also don't have a cure - I had a million muslins and did lots of washing. But they both were good weight gainers while they were exclusively bfing. Also, my baby book warned that it might seem like they're sicking the whole lot up, but it might not actually be that much. They suggested spilling a tbsp of milk on your counter to test this theory (I just took their word for it!)

possum well done for biting that bullet. Always so much better once it's done :)

runners sorry to hear your hip is giving you so much gip.

And I feel absolutely fine Xmas Smile! No ill effects today, tho the DDs were laughing at poor old Mum groaning every time she had to bend her knees last night. Things going on in the family atm, tho, making me just very happy I can run and will continue to do so as long as I possibly can. Shall we have a pact now to form an over-80s league?!

stickyLFDTfingers · 08/12/2011 20:44

D'oh I meant to say monkey and ibby in the second paragraph. Eejit that I am.

Just watching (sad case that I am) the big build in Durham. Love a Durham proposal - ah ya knoo ah luv ya to bits, so will ya marry ooz?
