Anyone want to join me? It means we should start 2012 being able to run 5k - now there's an incentive to stick with it.

golemmings. thought of you today. hope it went peacefully for you.

CarolCervix · 30/11/2011 10:26

W2R2 done. was actually good.

i'm still fat though. why is the lard not falling off me?

ZZMum · 30/11/2011 12:48

well done CC - I am still fat but I am sure I am seeing the first signs of a possible change in shape - guess it is early days for anything amazing but I am confident that by end of the 9 weeks I will be a better shape than I am now - I guess in reality I have only run for less than an hour so far over all the sessions so I have to be realistic about the speed of this transformation from lard to lean!!

HamblesHandbag · 30/11/2011 14:00

Hi all Smile

deeply impressed with W5 ZZ, well done!

I was back in the park yesterday but the weather was horrendous which gave me the psychological excuse of ditching it half way through... RUBBISH!!

So, my next attempt will be in the controlled environment of the gym.

Carol, are you enjoying it during the run? because, I'm still finding it pretty unbearable unpleasant. This makes me more likely to ditch it I think Sad

I want to get addicted to this, but so far...nope.

golemmings, hope you are ok today.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 01/12/2011 07:53

W2R3 done. Weather horrendous but strangely I quite liked it. Problem with pants slipping down though- either the elastic is going or I'm actually losing weight. Bit annoying though.
Re enjoying it I think I am but I'm always ready to get out the house after a long day with the DCs. Smile

golemmings · 01/12/2011 10:28

After a couple of days un the doldrums I'm back in the real world - so much so I left DS (and DH) sorting out our broken internet and went out in ... daylight.
It meant I could choose any route I wanted not just roads with street lights so I ran out of the village on a quiet lane, then across a field by the river and home down the disused railway line. The sun was shining, the air was fresh and it was lovely being out. The field was a bit hazardous though - very slippery and I started off far too fast and the penultimate run almost killed me. Still, even that one was faster than any on w1r1 or w2r1 so there is improvement. I've also lost a couple of pounds but whether this is through running or through giving up dairy (for DS's reflux) I'm not sure. Cheese. Biscuits, cakes, breakfast cereal, ice cream and yoghurt have all been swapped for baked beans or peanut butter on toast. Only 2 more lbs to loose to get back to pre-dc2 weight. I'll deal with the dd weight after Christmas and I hope I may have stopped being permanently hungry by then!

nice to have you back golemmings Smile

5ofus · 01/12/2011 16:40

Mind if I join in?

I did W1R1 today, I'm not a runner but I had a go and travelled quite a distance. Further than I thought I'd go.

Of the 8 running intervals I bailed out on one, but was really pleased to have finished interval number 8 without stopping. Any serious runners seeing me lolloping along would have stopped to laugh but I'm pretty chuffed to have done it. I think the fact I wore my backside toning trainers might not have helped my leg tiredness.

Need new trainers Grin

didldidi · 01/12/2011 17:44

welcome 5ofus!
I have had to have a bit of a break due to a niggling ankle injury which seems to keep re-occurring every time I up the distance. Haven't run since last Friday :-(

musttidyupmusttidyup · 01/12/2011 21:45

Hi 5ofus I think there are a few lollopers on this thread so you've found the right place! I know bugger all about running but I do know you needs some new trainers. I bought a great nike pair for about £35.

CarolCervix · 02/12/2011 08:21

i need to go out and do W3R3.

my back is bloody killing me though and didn't sleep well last night.

must go

must go

must go

CarolCervix · 02/12/2011 08:22

re trainers. amazon have new balance ones on offer this week.
and i don't lollop.

i wobble Xmas Grin

CarolCervix · 02/12/2011 09:48

W2R3 DONE!

Oh my goodness that was a hard one.

bloody freezing out there. but very beautiful. just me, the squirrels and a million little birds.

I thought I was being slower than usual but did my normal route in less time. how does that work?

first run was vile. i ached all over, my back, my knees, my ankles, my lungs...... but after that it was much better.

Is W3 much harder?

5ofus · 02/12/2011 10:52

Well done on W2R3 Grin

My legs hurt, my shoulders ache, my stomach muscles (what there is of them) ache but none of them ache too badly so it looks like I'm in for W1R2 tomorrow.

Planning a trip to local town to get new trainers later today.

HamblesHandbag · 02/12/2011 10:57

Hi 5ofus, I'm definitely another lolloper, so welcome Smile. I also ached after the first two runs, but it doesn't seem to happen now - or maybe I'm just not trying hard enough??

Well done Carol on W2R3. I'm going to have a go at it again (for the third timeBlush) this afternoon at the gym.

Jobs to do first, so see y'all later!

ZZMum · 02/12/2011 11:07

OK am back from Wk5R2 - and I did it !!!

Two lots of 8 minute runs - seemed ridiculous I could even attempt it given the longest I have run is just 5 mins - but I cracked both and could breathe at end the end - just - as ever was not sure if I was running or walking very fast but the tidal waves of fat I could feel running up and down my back would make me feel there was some effort going on!

Felt so good that I have done both WK5 runs thought would check out W5r3 - and then my legs did go from under me - 20 minutes !!! 20 MINUTES!!! without a stop - how do I get from 8 to 20 overnight? Not sure miracle is going to happen to my mind and legs to achieve that!

Golemmings - glad to see you back - your run outdoors sounds lovely - not muc like that round me and too many people I know would see me so am sticking to running on treadmill until I know I run for 30 mins without dying and then maybe go public - too many beautiful people round here to currently risk it.. Hope the no diary diet is not too harsh - I reckon my entire weight problem is due to an addiction to cheese so am considering going dairy free post Xmas - at start of year I managed to give up drinking but only lasted 2 days without cheese..

Sounds like we are all doing well - even if there are some off days - and none of us wobble - we are all lithe gazelle like lean libmed runners - or so I tell myself when staring at the very contrary evidence in mirror in front of treadmill Grin

If you do not hear back from me tomorrow, assume W5R3 was just a step too far and approach with caution!

CarolCervix · 02/12/2011 11:13

Shock 8 minutes!!!!! Shock Shock 20 minutes??????????????????

ZZMum · 02/12/2011 11:18

CC - I know - this will be you very soon :) I am just preparing you mentally for it!

I never thought I could run 8 minutes to be honest - failed so many times but just about cracked it - but to go from 8 to 20 just seems barking mad and quite frankly a bit of a cosmic joke! Think am going to spend a few more days on the 2 8 minute runs and lie downs before I move to 20 .. in fact am sure we will both be trying it at the same time as I am thinking of just hiding away from it for a while!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 02/12/2011 12:02

OMFG thought you were having a larf but oh no you are right 8 mins to 20 mins??? That's hardly a gradual increase is it?
W3R1 done today and managed the 3 min runs much better than I thought but I did take it very slow. Wore some sloggi pants which did not fall down! Smile
Is there any truth in that thing about not losing weight straight away because of muscle being heavier than fat? Have been on diet since August and have lost 22 lbs but nothing in the last 3 weeks. Or am I just eating too much?

HamblesHandbag · 02/12/2011 16:50

WOWZERS ZZ!! Respect! and well done Grin

Today I ran on the treadmill at the gym for the first time and it was SO much easier!! W2R3 completed - easy peasy Smile

I think the nice controlled environment (and lack of hills) in the gym might be my best bet. No awkward route planning involved either.

feeling very positive and looking forward to W3.

golemmings · 02/12/2011 19:16

Well done SD. You are awesome! Feel free to hang around on week 5 for a wee while, and on week 6 and we might catch you up and we can all go virtual running together.

I have just done w2r1 and totally agree with HH that a controlled environment is the way to go and I was reminded of Tidy's comment about taking leave of my senses as I set out this evening. It was mizzling, cold, dark, before I'd finished the warm up my throat hurt because of the cold air, the muscle I pulled earlier today running when late and with no warm up was hurting and I began to wonder what sort of ejit starts running in November. It is a totally stupid idea.

However, I ran a little slower than normal, by the second run my teeth had stopped chattering and by the last run I was feeling much better. So much better that when I looked at my watch I realised that if I didn't get a wriggle on to get home and look after DS, DH was going to be late picking up dd from nursery. So I ran the cool down too. All 5 mins of it. It probably wasn't much quicker than walking it but it felt really good and much less pressured than the intervals in the programme. I think I'm looking forward to week 3 now.

Gosh, well done lemmings for running EXTRA!

I was thinking the same thing today re starting in November: W1 was fine, fresh and mild. This week I 'ran' in a fecking hurricane! brrrrr

I'm sticking to the gym until March.

ohbugrit · 02/12/2011 22:56

Hi there, may I join you please?
I started 12 days ago and have done wk2 r2. Overall finding it more achievable than I'd anticipated, although calf pains are a much bigger problem than energy or breathing for me. I'm very overweight but pretty active so I think it'll get tougher later when carrying my weight for longer periods really starts to get to me. Mostly loving it though, and surprising myself that I can both run, and enjoy running. :)
