Anyone want to join me? It means we should start 2012 being able to run 5k - now there's an incentive to stick with it.

W1R2 done. Harder than W1R1 as i'm feeling a bit stiff all over. still did it though!
Toes hurt too. Need to toughen them up.

brighthair · 23/11/2011 08:53

Planning w1r2 tonight. Not sore but legs feel heavy today. Hoping they don't start burning again!
My run is more like a slow trot/shuffle but I figure I can worry about speed later...

ZZMum · 23/11/2011 13:12

DD - just done W4 for the third time in a row - I am amazed - felt incredible that I ran for 16 minutes - OK some breaks in the middle of that - but hell that is detail - I ran!!! and I did not die or throw up as predicted - I did not even feel that bad at the end .. made mistake of looking at week 5 - the number 8 appeared - felt a little giddy and put ipod down quickly... that is for next week - want to really crack week 4 before I enter long distance running !!!

GoL - well done on your running - and welcome to the changed world of what is now fun on a Friday! I have given up drinking just for november to make sure I have no hangover excuses not to run and sadly this week found myself trying to convince friends to join me at the gym on a friday night for a workout and with the extra special treat of steam room at the end - they all looked at me as if I was mad and agreed to go to pub instead! Given I want to do week 5 on Saturday to give self time to regain use of legs for work, I have to decline... am sure Paula Radcliffe had same issues with her friends!!

ContinentalKat · 23/11/2011 13:37

Congrats everybody, you are doing really well!
Did W1R3 this morning, went quite well but I felt really sluggish. Thankfully my running partner has returned, so the next run will be with her and hopefully a bit more motivated.
Still haven't solved the key problem...

brighthair · 23/11/2011 20:29

W1R2 done. Did 23 mins total, added an extra 60 second run and 2 mins walking
Calf muscles still burning like hell when I run, nearly cried today Sad
On a good note wasn't out of breath still

AtYourCervix · 24/11/2011 08:09

my toenails really really hurt. think i need new trainers in a bigger size.

gym today.

AtYourCervix · 25/11/2011 08:54

W1R3 done.

is it a big jump to W2?

musttidyupmusttidyup · 25/11/2011 09:57

Atyourcervix just done W2R1 did notice it was a bit harder and started to get a bit of a stitch. But fine and manageable.
Kat I took a single key and put it in my enormous bra. Not a lot of room for movement in there.

didldidi · 25/11/2011 10:04

I just did w4r2 but feel really daft because the only way I can manage five minutes is by going really slowly!

ZZMum · 25/11/2011 17:12

so done W4R3 for the 4th time this week - suspect I am avoiding week 5 due to the number 8 which just seems a step too far at the moment..

Want to do it a few more times so that i end it feeling I have more to give rather than counting down last few seconds to my death ...

golemmings · 25/11/2011 18:28

I need to go out and do w1r3 but I'm lacking motivation. It's cold and dark and I'm knackered. DS has (mild) reflux and he's only slept 1 night this week and I've given up dairy to see if it helps and I'm absolutely starving. Still once we have 2 children fed, bathed and in bed I can go out and run and pick up a Chinese on the way home. That sounds like good motivation to me!

golemmings · 25/11/2011 23:27

w1r3 now done. Accidentally managed to pause the ap on my phone when I put the phone in my pocket after the warm up so ran for a bit, thought it should have been about a minute and discovered the count down timer paused 3 seconds in so had to do run 1 again. managed to get a bit further today but I think my average run speed was a bit down. Still, it didn't kill me!

W2R1 at the weekend, back down at my dads unless I do it tomorrow.

golemmings · 25/11/2011 23:30

I've also found this;

its a 5k race with a difference. I thought I might have a crack at the midlands one. Anyone want to join me?And ZZ, I've not yet ruled out Manchester!

HamblesHandbag · 26/11/2011 10:29

I'm sat here, working up courage to go and do W2R3...

I notice that some of you say your muscles go, but for me it's the breathing that's difficult. I'm so unfit! I really struggle to get my breath back in between runs.

Anyway, I usually go to my local park to run, but it's the weekend so it will be rammed with people pointing and laughing at me, and its also hilly, so I'm going to have a go on the streets.

Catch y'all later!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 26/11/2011 11:07

golemmings have you taken leave of your senses? Mud water and running no no no crazy lady

didldidi · 26/11/2011 17:19

HH - it was the breathing that I had the most problem with and found it helped a lot when I really slowed down the pace.

ZZ Well done on doing the W4X4! when are you planning W5R1?

HamblesHandbag · 27/11/2011 09:33

golemmings I have to agree with musttidyup, ARE YOU MAD??! Grin that mud run looks horrendous!

I was hungover and struggled with my W2R3 yesterday. I didn't like running on the streets as you have to keep stopping to cross roads and things. There was a couple of times when I had to wait at crossings in the middle of a running bit. Also, I planned my route badly and ended up going home after the fifth run because I was near home and struggling.

Oh well. I'm going to do W2R3 again on Monday, and I'll be back in the park.

On the plus side, I was so tired last night that I wasn't tempted to drink wine at all and was in bed by 9.30. It was lovely!

Didldidi, I see what you mean about slowing the pace, although I go so slowly to start with! I'm just very unfit. I hope I can do something about that.

ZZMum · 27/11/2011 15:00

I can not get link to open for some reason but am assuming it is an urbathlon given mud discussions?

So I am gearing up for W5 tomorrow morning - was going to do it today but fell into some wine last night and not feeling at best - want to ensure all conditions are favourable when move the slider to week 5!!

Sounds like we are all doing well - I am quite possibily slowest and largest of anyone attempting this but am just happy to be trying to get through it - I will consider speed once have completed it .. good luck to everyone going today!!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 27/11/2011 15:05

Zz I'm sure I could give you a run for your money on the slow and large thing. Blush . Feel great though I'm just so pleased to have started it. Did W2R2 this morning. I was Smile to leave DH to deal with 3 small DCs whilst I buggered off out! Not many folk out at 7 on a Sunday morning, just the postmen and a few students doing the walk of shame Grin.

golemmings · 27/11/2011 21:00

Wow! Aren't we all doing well!
Zzz the link you can't open is a 5k run through the grounds of a stately home taking in obstacles including very steep hills, hay bales, rivers etc. It's managed by British millitary fitness. Bit it is wet and muddy; suspect tidy and uh have the sane approach... Not sure I had any senses to leave!

Anyway I've just done w2r1 and found it quite easy. I ran slower though. I'm also back at my dads and the route here is much flatter than at home which helps. I get to do w2r2 here too since we're here until Wednesday (mums funeral is Tuesday so that evening will call for a run to get some brain space and then a large glass of wine.

Good luck with w5 zz. I love the idea of accidentally falling into some wine and would give you a grin emoticon but I can't find square brackets on my phone.

golemmings Sad for Tuesday. Hope it is bearable. Bless you.

CarolCervix · 28/11/2011 10:08

Sad golemmings.

W2R1 done. wasn't going to as the old back is playing up and was bloody horrible yesterday but I donned my hat and gloves and went out.

it was again surprisingly OK. and i feel soooooooo much better now i have done it. bloody marvelous.

and i suspect i am near the top of the very large and slow list Grin

HamblesHandbag · 28/11/2011 10:40

Hope you're ok golemmings Sad

Well done Carol! I'm jealous that you found it ok, I wish I did! I'm still waiting for it to feel good during the run, and not just after. Will that come???

I'm thinking I might have a go at running at the gym, as then I can control the incline. My local park is just too bloody hilly that it stops me in my tracks if I have to run up hill.

I had best of intentions to run today, but now I've got something else urgent to do today so I'm going to go immediately after the school run tomorrow morning.

I can feel my enthusiasm waning...

ZZMum · 29/11/2011 10:30

golemmings - sent you a PM, thinking of you today.

So, big news for me - I did W5R1 - and lived!! It did not have the number 8 in - rather it was 3 lots of 5 mins runs with a 3 mins lie down/fag break in between. I was amazed that I got through it and to be honest , and never thought I would say this, it was not that bad!!

Going to do it again tomorrow before I move to R2 which does have the number 8 in it - realise that I can only run when am blasting ears with loud rock music so need to find some new tunes - anybody got some good running anthems they would recommend?

I am starting to get moments of almost enjoying it when in the zone - can see how it could become easier .. not sure given size and speed I will ever be a true runner but am feeling fitter and at least have not gained weight since starting this!

HH - get out there today - I waned yesterday and really had to push self out of the house today - This is the 3rd time at least I have tried to do the prgramme and I failed before when I let the days slip - do not go there!!

Good running Grin
