A new thread as the other one is getting full. I'm enjoying the post election discussion. Every view is listened to and welcomed.

Brexit is happening, but what kind of Brexit will it be?

New leaderships for both Labour and the LibDems.

Most importantly, will Britain be Great in 2024?

I took the liberty of starting a new thread.

Apologies if there are misspellings. Or should that be mispllegns.

Fixed spelling is a tool of hegemonic cultural oppression by the educated classes.

Brexit is like a baby
its delivery will lead to life changing events that nobody can expect for decades to come

Johnson's parental record speaks for itself Grin

Peregrina · 15/12/2019 16:58

Ooh, I closed the other thread off. I think that's the second time I have managed.

I would just like to remind you 'Events dear boy, events'.

This is totally off topic but there used to be something called the initial teaching alphabet which used phonetic symbols. Fortunately I was too old for this and my children too young, but I do wonder what they made of regional pronunciations? Cassels or carsels? Arsking a question or assking a question? And so on.

Following on from the previous thread:

@Maomentum

1979 Labour 269 seats, Jim Callaghan resigns

1992 Labour 271 seats, Neil Kinnock resigns

2010 Labour 258 seats, Gordon Brown resigns

2015 Labour 232 seats, Ed Miliband resigns

2019 Labour 203 seats, LET'S NOT BE HASTY

I feel third time really could be the charm for Jeremy - I mean, what's the worst that could happen? Wink

JustAnotherPoster00 · 15/12/2019 17:20

What policies are you looking forward to the Tories implementing the most Cendrillion, now that the Tory party are in charge and Brexit is almost a certainty, what do you think the Conservatives are going to do about social care, the NHS, welfare spending, climate policies?

Piggywaspushed · 15/12/2019 17:20

I remember that crazy spelling .. my local library was full of those books when I was little! They were fascinating!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 15/12/2019 17:22

Can I just add, I'm sorry youre feeling alone this christmas time Cendrillion it must be hard, dont worry though if you need to come in here to gloat because thats the only thing you can do to make yourself feel like you have some self worth then have at it, I couldn take that pleasure away from someone who seemingly has not much else to offer Smile

The fact that labour has collapsed in Scotland due to a rebranding of the SNP
From last thread. Labour collapsed in Scotland because their MPs were useless and corrupt in many cases.
"Others argue that Labour’s problems predate this, that the party has been too complacent for too long, especially in the west of Scotland, where it was guilty of cronyism, putting forward nonentities as candidates for councils, the Scottish parliament and Westminster."
www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/apr/24/rage-against-the-labour-party-from-disillusionment-to-meltdown-in-scotland

Piggywaspushed · 15/12/2019 17:28

Well, that's exactly what I said.. I used the word complacent!

Anyway, moving on..

CendrillonSings · 15/12/2019 17:32

That's so kind of you, Just. The pleasure you give me is indeed indescribable - almost as great as my dismay would have been if Agent Cob hadn't broken the Labour Party into a thousand tiny pieces!

He has truly been the most successful sleeper agent in Tory history Wink

UrsulaPandress · 15/12/2019 17:33

ITA. I learned to read with it. It was fab. The idea was that you could read really quickly and so enjoy reading the content.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 15/12/2019 17:35

I really wish there was an ignore poster option on here!

Random18 · 15/12/2019 17:36

I beleive that if Labour had not collapsed in Scotland there would not be the support for independence that there is now.
Many moved the the SNP as many policies were similar.

Grinchly · 15/12/2019 17:39

I was taught I t a too. Hated it as I could read already. Have a Beatrix Potter ITA somewhere.
Maybe that explains my weirdly apparently intuitive understanding of the phonetic alphabet!

Alsohuman · 15/12/2019 17:40

I really wish there was an ignore poster option on here!

Me too. In the meantime 🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵

ListeningQuietly · 15/12/2019 17:42

He has truly been the most successful sleeper agent in Tory history
my husband has been saying that since 2016
as have many others

so, where is your darling Johnson going to find the grove of magic money trees
or is he just going to borrow from our children and grandchildren ?

Corbyn is a wazzock but at least he expected people to pay for what they receive rather than stealing it from the next generation

Random18 · 15/12/2019 17:43

I left Scotland in early / mid noughties.

The change in 10 years was astonishing.

Last GE I voted in was 2001. My Labour MP had a vote share of over 58%.

Last election the slightly changed constituency voted in an SNP MP with a vote of over 50%.

This is West Coast real Labour heartlands.

DGRossetti · 15/12/2019 17:44

Jumping in from a point on the last thread and a response to it ...

I have no illusions whatsoever that Boris gives a shit about his new voters in the North. Of course he doesn't. However, under the mendacious cloak of concern for them (not dissimilar to Cedrillons faux handwringing for the Semite community) he will be able to happily piss off loyal allies - indeed he can develop it as a test for how loyal his allies are. If he decides to do something, and uses his northern powerbase as an excuse for it, it's hard to disagree. After all (he will say) didn't they ensure this victory.

Meanwhile I did cheer myself up briefly by seeing the wonder that is the Tard gorge bridge on "Worlds Greatest Bridges" and realise it was an Anglo-French project ... perhaps there's something to be said for trying to turn Brexit into an engineering project, rather than a political and economic one Hmm. After all, the UK isn't so bad at the former, despite being pretty pants at the latter.
