Can remainers tell me why you wouldn't vote for Corbyn in a GE?

Discussing Brexit with centre right friend who is adament despite voting Labour in previous elections she would never vote for Corbyn. When pressed she mentions links to trade unions but can't tell me why that's a bad thing.

I don't love Corbyn but I would vote for him over the absolute mess that is the Tories at the moment. Why for remain/Labour voters right now is he so politically toxic?

OP posts:

“even if you couldn't give a flying fuck about anyone who earns over 200k a year or whatever.”
I do give a flying fuck about them. I just think that a bit more tax from them is better than a bit more tax/less funding for the poor.

ListeningQuietly · 06/09/2019 15:45

Corbyn wants Brexit
he is too tribal to lead a country

but my local MP is good
so I'm torn

LuciferTheCat · 06/09/2019 16:21

😂😂😂 creased at what you all think about Corbyn. Don’t be so daft ffs

PicsInRed · 06/09/2019 16:22

The current Labour Party despise women and Jews.

What's not to like? Hmm

pikapikachu · 06/09/2019 16:52

Anti-Semitism and his stance of women are unacceptable.

He's announced lots of ill thought out policies that just wouldn't work suggesting that he's either stupid or wildly out of touch.

I'm not sure what he stands for. He seems to flip flop on stuff like Brexit which is very unappealing. At least with the Tories you know what you're voting for.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 16:55

“He's announced lots of ill thought out policies that just wouldn't work suggesting that he's either stupid or wildly out of touch.“

Like what?

RiskIt4Biscuit · 06/09/2019 16:57

The only positive about Corbyn as PM vs Brexit is that Corbyn would only be in power for 5 years max whereas Brexit is likely to be decades.

He's still utterly unpalatable.

BogglesGoggles · 06/09/2019 17:05

He admires terrorises and despots. He’s also even stupider than BJ (which is amazing really).

SpringFan · 06/09/2019 17:05

He is useless and in thrall to Momentum. He has spent most of his career rebelling against his party, but is intolerant of those who don't toe the Party line now.
Labour in the person of John Macdonald have promulgated some ill considered policies - right to buy from private landlords, inheritance, workers ownership of companies. That linked with Anti-seminism, and self identification makes them unworthy of my vote..

BogglesGoggles · 06/09/2019 17:07

@BertrandRussell if you tax high earners more they will likely leave the country and you will end up with lower revenues. It’s a fine balance and at current levels I don’t think there’s much wiggle room.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 17:11

“f you tax high earners more they will likely leave the country and you will end up with lower revenues.”

Oh yes. That old chestnut. Best raise tax on low earners then- they can’t afford to leave the country!

We’re talking 5% increase for the highest earners. I think they’ll cope!

ListeningQuietly · 06/09/2019 17:18

if you tax high earners more they will likely leave the country
Except that when "Non Doms" got hit with a £20,000 per year charge
they all paid up and none left
because where would they go ?

Manontry · 06/09/2019 17:20

I don't disagree with taxing high earners more.

But I also think everyone else should pay more tax.

ListeningQuietly · 06/09/2019 17:24

But I also think everyone else should pay more tax.
Currently 50% of adults do not pay tax
because they earn less than the £11850 tax allowance

but they do pay VAT
in fact the poor pay FAR larger proportions of their income in VAT than the rich

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 17:26

“But I also think everyone else should pay more tax”

Why? The tax burden borne by the poor is already dispropurtionate.

detachablehoof · 06/09/2019 17:29

His policies would ruin the economy
He is totally incompetent - can't believe Labour haven't managed to get rid of him yet.
Also he is the only MP who has ever stood up in Parliament and ranted a load of hateful lies about the religious group I belong to.
Dangerous man.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 17:34

“His policies would ruin the economy”

What, as opposed to what’s happening now?

And if he made anti Semitic statements in the House and was not suspended, then the problem goes much further than the Labour Party.

Tensixtysix · 06/09/2019 17:35

Corbyn is a power mad maniac! Almost Hitler-esk.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 17:36

“Corbyn is a power mad maniac! Almost Hitler-esk.”

Working well, isn't it?

ListeningQuietly · 06/09/2019 17:39

The REAL Corbyn policies - as against the ones spun by the press - are pretty bland

Renationalising the railways by allowing franchises to lapse - pretty sensible
Closing bucket loads of tax loopholes to increase the tax take - pretty sensible
Unravelling the internal market in the NHS to remove layers of costs - pretty sensible
Allowing councils to build houses - pretty sensible
Allowing LEAs to run schools - pretty sensible
Lowering the bandings on the top tax rates - will affect only the super rich

BUT
He is too tribal for me

twofingerstoEverything · 06/09/2019 18:04

Corbyn is a power mad maniac! Almost Hitler-esk.
Go on then, tensixtysix, tell us how Corbyn resembles Hitler?
I'm no fan of his, but your statement seems to be hyperbolic in the extreme. Either that, or you've wandered into tinfoil hat terriroty.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2019 18:19

It’s amazing how Corbyn can be a power mad Hitler figure bent on destruction and a ineffective, useless leader continually missing open goals at one and the same time.....

twofingerstoEverything · 06/09/2019 18:26

...and a cowardly chicken, bertrand

AgeLikeWine · 06/09/2019 18:33

I’m a former Labour activist, and I won’t vote for my old party again while Corbyn is leader because:

1, He is a life-long Eurosceptic who whipped his MPs to vote for A50.

2, Under his leadership, Labour policy is not ‘Stop Brexit’.

3, He is not remotely up to the job of being Prime Minister of a G7 country, temperamentally, intellectually or in any other way.

4, While he may describe himself as a democratic socialist, he has surrounded himself with senior advisers (eg Milne, Murray, Fisher) who are committed Marxists and apologists for Stalin. It would be extremely dangerous for these individuals to be close to power in the U.K.

ListeningQuietly · 06/09/2019 18:36

Yup, Milne is the Labour version of Cummings
amoral and nihilistic
Milne wants to leave NATO and become a Putin satellite (see his own blog posts)
until he is gone, Corbyn is a problem
