Democracy eh, Brexiteers?

More like a dictatorship.

BurningTheToast · 28/08/2019 09:21

It's a coup.

BubblesBuddy · 28/08/2019 09:21

He’s going to do it after the Queen’s speech. What have we become? It’s not democratic to suspend parliament. It’s what Dictators do. I’m not a Labour supporter, I’m Centre right, but I’m ashamed to be British right now with this awful PM. It’s not about the Brexit vote now, it’s about Boris the unelected leader (Dictator). It’s unacceptable. What can we do? Ideas welcomed by me. He has to be stopped.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 28/08/2019 09:25

Ah, sovereignty sure looks a lot like totalitarianism.

SistemaAddict · 28/08/2019 09:28

He's a dangerous idiot. I'm so glad my family has a buffer of food and supplies as now it looks like the shit will really hit the fan. I urge everyone who hasn't got one to start gathering your own buffer. Check out the threads on brexit for more info.

We are going to leave.

The May plan was roundly rejected by all sides. Now we're going to leave.

Unless EU blinks (and given the state of the German economy, then I don't utterly rule this out though it's highly unlikely) then we're out with No Deal.

Labour stood on. Leave platform at last GE - so the numbers voting for 'Leave' parties means it does have to happen.

Will people, with benefit of hindsight, start wishing their MP had supported the May Deal? Because I think death of that was also death of any hopes for Customs Union.

Though an Icelandic commentator has been banging on about possible 'emergency' membership of EEA to avoid 'inconvenience'. Though counter-argument is that it just prolongs wrangling

LizzieSiddal · 28/08/2019 09:29

Taking back control eh?

I'm fucking livid.

David Allen Green doesn't seem to be too concerned. Don't panic yet.

Triglesoffy · 28/08/2019 09:33

How is the £uk doing?

We’re totally £ukked aren’t we?

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 28/08/2019 09:34

But, but, but ... weren't all the Quitlings endlessly bleating on that it was all about democracy, sovereignty, and lots of other words that they didn't really understand the meanings of so surely they should be up-in-arms at this!

No?

I guess that answers that question then...

SouthChinaSea234 · 28/08/2019 09:36

It is quite normal to prorogue a parliament at the end of one parliamentary session and before the start of the next. All governments do this on a regular basis. Given the change of PM and most of the cabinet, it would not be unusual to draw a line under what May had promised to do and to start a new session with a new Queen’s Speech.

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 09:37

It , it would seem, is on.

This is now time to make a choice, you can bury your head and hope for the best.
you can sit worrying, moaning and criticising online, maybe writing a strongly worded letter or two.
Or you can get up, get organized and be able to say that whatever happens you tried your best.
As a historian, I honestly think Boris will get his own way, but I have to be able to say I tried.

NoBaggyPants · 28/08/2019 09:41

Bollocks. There's nothing normal about the times we live in.

Is that the best you've got?

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 09:42

If any of you haven't yet started to prep, now might be a good time to think about it. Start with a 3 day buffer of food. Stop there or go further as budget, space and equilibrium permit.

ChicCroissant · 28/08/2019 09:46

Well, I think that's his answer to the backstop issue. Knob.

Bummywitch · 28/08/2019 09:49

I haven't got space for a three day buffer of food, we are bursting at the seams as it is.

MargoLovebutter · 28/08/2019 09:49

South, isn't there a difference between the usual prorogation and the suspension being talked about here? I haven't quite got my head around it.

meditrina · 28/08/2019 09:50

Either they get Brexit, or they get a 'people v Parliament' general election.

It's win/win for them, really

(I always have a week or so of food in stock - some people's ideas of prepping are more in line with my normal stire cupboard. My suggestion s to make sure you have plenty of thinks like loo paper, walking up liquid etc because if there are hiatuses in supply, food will be prioritised and it's worth having an extra pack/bottle of non-food things that you'd prefer not to do without)

NoWordForFluffy · 28/08/2019 09:51

Fuck me. He actually IS a dictator. Scary shit.

BubblesBuddy · 28/08/2019 09:53

I really think talk of food hoarding is inappropriate right now. We are being told Parliament will not sit. Our MPs are effectively barred from discussions in Parliament. Any deal cannot be brought to Parliament if it’s not sitting! There must be a Parliament.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/08/2019 09:56

bellini

I’ll have to start again with my stockpile...i got rid of the one i had in march cos it was all over the place

Fully stocked with booze and that might be what i have to turn to!

Need more bog roll

BubblesBuddy · 28/08/2019 09:56

People who have enough money to hoard food etc will ensure shortages for less fortunate people. So don’t do it. Be reasonable. Prices will go up and that’s making it difficult for others too!
