Interesting stuff on remainvoter.com

My DD told me about this site, (Remainvoter.com) it's non party political and is run and funded by volunteers. Anyone else seen it? Most interesting thing is a blog post about changing politics rather than blaming politicians who are caught up in the present system. I agree since I am just fed up to the back teeth with the whole thing and hardly know who to vote for to get any common sense or decent behaviour anymore.

Ignore the under-bridge dweller(s). He They contribute nothing constructive to the discussion, with at best their misunderstanding of the figures or more probably their made-up facts - and are just trying to distract us.

Micky665544 · 02/05/2019 13:47

1.5 million dwellings for whom though?

Micky665544 · 02/05/2019 13:51

cherin: sure, your personal anecdotes are basically irrelevent

I mean, did I , like , tell you about the guy I met the other day who used to be a roofer getting paid good coin, now he's lucky to even get min wage because of all these new young immigrants

guess he's just one of the 'peasants' though, right, that should upskill....

You asked about how many houses had been built with incoming immigrants, the figure is very similar.

It doesn't matter who the houses were built for, it means capacity is larger.

Do keep up dear.

ContinuityError · 02/05/2019 17:19

“paid good coin”

Interesting Google search results on that particular phrase.

BTW in 2001 there were 5.4 million immigrants living in the UK, in 2011 there were 7.3 million, an increase of 1.9 million.
That's total immigrant population, so not 5 million new people.

To be fair to Micky665544 he does appear to be correct about the 5 million new people - using the measure of immigration that Boris is looking at - although Boris stops at 2011 (2011 was 8 years ago of course).

7.3 million (as quoted by Boris) is the number of foreign born residents in 2011 (this number was subsequently increased to 7.5 million after a discrepancy was noticed).

4.6 million is the number of foreign born residents in 2001 (I think Boris' 5.4 million must be from a different year?).

9.4 million is the estimated number of non-UK born residents for July 2017/18.

That is an increase of nearly 5 million from 2001 to 2018.

Hello @Clavinova - this is my first post on Mumsnet. I'm Mark Alexander. I set up Remainvoter.com. Any questions you can ask me. Not sure what you mean about Lib Dems membership cards can you clarify?

MarkAlexander · 06/05/2019 12:15

The 400,000 is the official police number. I was there it seemed much bigger!

Hello - I'm afraid I googled you - you put yourself in the public domain.

I thought it was odd that you wrote a paragraph about yourself on Remainvoter.com but you didn't mention that you lived in Milan.

I searched for you on 27th April on this thread - it was very easy, I am not a journalist. You have an extremely prolific (personal) anti-Brexit twitter account with 13,000 followers - as well as the Remainvoter.com account.

You retweeted Liberal Democrat membership cards/banners on 24th, 25th and 27th April - with, "I just joined the Liberal Democrats - join me here" etc. One of the tweets was from Tom Brake, the Liberal Democrat MP - the banner is very large and orange - you can't miss it!

From what I can remember, you also had one or two retweets on Remainvoter.com as well - although not as prominent.

Mistigri · 06/05/2019 13:51

It's possible to be a party supporter and also to support cross party causes you know.

And Britons living in the EU are the most seriously affected by Brexit, so their participation in campaigns about Brexit is hardly surprising. Mark Alexander is a Briton exercising his democratic rights - those democratic rights you pretend to care about.

If we're going the ad hominem route, then we could also talk about

  • the Brexit party officials who were told to stand down due to islamophobic and anti Semitic posts on social media but who are still listed as directors.
  • the two ex Revolutionary Communist Party members and IRA supporters who are standing for the Brexit party. (At least one of these also supports free speech for paedophiles)
  • the refusal by Farage to name his big donor (which he will have to do by law, though not yet)
MarkAlexander · 06/05/2019 13:56

Don't worry - That's fine I'm not at all concerned. I'm just saying that if you'd like to ask me questions, I'm here.

Nobody on RemainVoter.com bio includes any info about where they live. I'm not sure I get your point on this?

It's a tactical voting site aimed at Remain Voters-The Remain parties are Greens, Lib Dems and Change UK of course, we are writing or RT all of them. I'm not party political myself.

I'd urge all Remainvoters to join and we can improve the results of the EU elections on the 23rd of May.

Any questions just ask.

MarkAlexander · 06/05/2019 14:03

I'm not party political. In fact, it's party politics which have been in some way responsible for bringing us to this undesirable position. I don't think it wholly fair to blame politicians -The triangle of power, Westminster and media must be tremendously difficult to navigate. Remain Voter is an effort to ensure that we can make our voices heard more clearly. www.remainvoter.com/post/don-t-blame-the-player-change-the-game

HateIsNotGood · 06/05/2019 14:06

Hey MarkAlexander if you want MNetters to ask you questions there's a long-running AMA (Ask me Anything) theme on MN - found in either the AIBU or Chat Boards.

You just start a Thread saying "I started remainvoter.com AMA" - that would be preferable and in the spirit of MN IMO.

MarkAlexander · 06/05/2019 14:40

Thanks so much. What a good idea.

I just think it's odd not to mention it - someone says they hail from New Zealand. The website says the board members are located all across the country but doesn't mention anyone living in Europe - perhaps others do as well?

I mentioned on page 1 of this thread that living and working in Europe is one of the benefits of being in the EU (I acknowledge that) - therefore it should be a positive point in your bio, not something you want to conceal.

Your bio also says, "I'm not political" - but you sound political to me on your twitter account;

3rd May:
"Brexit is a Tory vanity project, built to appease authoritarians, won with lies & illegal means, that Tories have doubled down on, despite the bonfire of our economy, jobs, rights, laws & order, and western liberal values."

It's not political, it's factual. Smile

You're welcome Mark Alexander - you won't find many 'hearts and minds' requiring changing to your POV as generally the Brexit Board is Remainer threads and posts - only a few (thick-skinned) Leave voters post here. Haven't seen your AMA Thread yet so my question is:

I see that many of the remainvote.com Team are SM/Teccie types - are you hoping that you will be able to use SM in order to fundamentally change the POV of existing Leave voters or to encourage the non-voting electorate to vote for Remain parties?

Jason118 · 06/05/2019 22:56

@HateIsNotGood
You make a good point regarding MN boards here, it is very echo chamberesque. Is there an equivalent constructive leave based discussion forum (not Facebook, that's full of mad people), where I could have a read of alternative viewpoints?

HateIsNotGood · 06/05/2019 23:09

Sorry Jason can't help you there - MN is the only Forum I 'do' - coz of its depth and breadth and sometimes it's just downright hilarious. I don't FB, Insta, Twit or anything else. I'm off to sofa now....readying myself for all other Mum things tomorrow.

Jason118 · 06/05/2019 23:10

@HateIsNotGood
Ok, thanks Smile
