Just watching parliament and it's like some sort of circus. They're making a show of themselves.

The thing is - I haven't felt the need to March or Demonstrate since Stop the War, but I do now. I'm so angry because it's the 'uncertainty' not the actual Brexit/Remain itself that is so damaging - to everyone - both here and the EU, and particularly in the ROI. The HoC have had their days - following 'points of order', debating, arguing, bellowing and following their process, but enough is enough.

I'll be looking out for local barricades now.

SecretToffeeHammer · 29/03/2019 15:41

Parliament won’t let us crash out. If we’re staring down that barrel they will have to revoke.

Problem is that the stupid referendum will give any government a future “well its what the people voted for” if they want to start this shitshow again.

This should never have been put to the people. It was too complex an issue to ask as it was. The movers and shakers involved in calling the referendum and playing games in it for their own careers (looking at you Boris) need to be forever held responsible and at some point held to account

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 15:42

It's like the hokey pokey. In out, in out, shake it all about. It's doing my head in now.

RussellSprout · 29/03/2019 15:44

The hardcore brexiteers like moggy and bojo for all their failings, are not stupid... they only voted for the deal today cos they know no deal won't happen.

So... that means we're in for a long extension that'll turn into revoke I reckon (hope)

havingtochangeusernameagain · 29/03/2019 15:44

I think the EU will grant us a long extension, because ultimately they want to keep us in the EU. They know that if they give us a couple more years to sort out a deal, it will almost certainly get kicked into the long grass and we will almost certainly end up remaining

This. We could have a GE on the same day as the EP elections which would meet the test for a longer extension - ie doing something different.

ScienceIsTruth · 29/03/2019 15:47

I just wish they'd make a bloody decision and stick to it.

If there's to be another vote, which I wouldn't agree with, it should only be between revoke or no-deal brexit, otherwise it will just split the vote too much and we'll end up in the same mess we're in now.

I'm just sick to the back teeth of all of it, and I don't think we should be having a new Tory leader or GE atm.
It will just lead to more mess and more delays, which we really don't need as it's all the uncertainty causing most of the issues.

I think we need to stick with the ones we've got until it's sorted, but just make a bloody decision about leaving/revoking!

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 15:47

I really don't think an extension will be granted.

Mopthefloor · 29/03/2019 15:48

The DUP really is the fly in the ointment here.

I’d have said that the Conservatives were the fly in the ointment. The DUP and the GFA are the actual ointment.

Dolly2007 · 29/03/2019 15:51

@WhiskersOnCats I hope it isn't granted. I would prefer no deal!

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 15:53

If you think of it from the EU's side. There are 27 member states apart from the UK. They have a thousand other things to get on with in the meantime which have been ignored due to the all-consuming Brexit. Those countries are getting on with their own home issues and have countries and populations and citizens and voters who couldn't give two shites whether the UK is in or out. Giving a 2 year extension is not in their best interests at all. Why would they want to allow the UK to stay in for another 2 years, upsetting the apple-cart on a constant basis, as they are finally going to leave anyway. It's not in the interests of the EU to allow an extension, and I think the UK is naive in thinking the EU will grant it.

clarrylove · 29/03/2019 15:54

So it looks like no deal on 12th April. The sky won't fall in.

ScienceIsTruth · 29/03/2019 15:57

Disclaimer:
I know fuck all about politics. All I know is that politicians are all as bad as each other, and only out for themselves and their careers/Party. They don't give a shit about the constituents that voted for them.

If they did, we wouldn't be in this mess, as the deal (shit as it is) would've been passed because as (afaik) more constituencies voted for leave than remain.

I thought that they were meant to vote on behalf of their constituency, not for their own agendas.

[Happy to be corrected if I've misunderstood anything].

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 16:02

Yes, I think it will be a no deal exit on the 12th.

OP posts:
Parker231 · 29/03/2019 16:06

@clarrylove - the sky might not fall in but the UK is facing a huge economic and political nightmare that we’ve never experienced before. People are going to suffer significantly.

Fresta · 29/03/2019 16:06

3 years on- all those 15/16/17 year olds are now over 18 and eligible to vote and some of the old leave voters will have died!

GinUnicorn · 29/03/2019 16:10

I really don’t think it will be no deal. That would be an economic disaster. I hope for revoke and end the madness.

Parker231 · 29/03/2019 16:18

@GinUnicorn - the vote to revoke was 184 yes and 293 no, so can’t see that happening (unfortunately)

LoudBatPerson · 29/03/2019 16:18

@ScienceIsTruth parliaments first duty is to act in the countries best interest, this comes before constituencies. Lastly should be in the interest of their party, however this seems to be squarely at the forefront for many right now.

Even if all MPs were voting just for what their constituents had voted for in 2016, it would be as simple as just voting for the WA, as there were so many versions of Brexit promised before the referendum, the WA can't satisfy them all (if any).

The80sweregreat · 29/03/2019 16:19

If Boris and Jacob voted for her deal ( mark 3) then they will not want no deal either?

Parker231 · 29/03/2019 16:20

It’s irrelevant now what the UK want, all the decisions now rest with the EU.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/03/2019 16:21

Donald Tusk has reminded the EU27 that there were over 1 million people on the march last weekend and that almost 6 million have signed the revoke petition. He has asked that they don't give up on those people. To my mind that means that he will encourage a vote FOR an extension.

No deal would be economic suicide, so anyone wishing for that needs their head read, quite frankly.

If we got another PV, no deal would not be an option. The people won't get to vote on breaching the GFA as that would be worse than irresponsible. If there is one, it would be remain v [deal chosen by parliament], I would think.

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 16:21

Agreed Parker.

OP posts:
WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 16:24

You've countries like France and Hungary who are sick of this. I would say there is not a snowball's chance in hell of getting a consensus to agree to an extension.

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 29/03/2019 16:24

Fuck me what a mess.

No matter what happens the UK have seriously undermined their reputation on the world stage. I can’t imagine anyone ever taking us seriously again.
