...Children! Lollipops! Lollipops if you vote for my deal!

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 09:05

I want our greenbelt back for our grim little northern town. Can I have that? Or failing that, my own trampoline?

Holidayshopping · 04/03/2019 09:10

What about the school playing fields, children’s centres and libraries-can we have them back?!

surferjet · 04/03/2019 09:13

Yes, you probably can have them back once we control immigration.

Less people = less need for housing = less building on greenbelt.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 09:15

@surferjet , I live in a very Catholic part of the world which should be a magnet for pesky Catholic immigrants from the E.U. clogging up our schools and our hospitals and our roads. It's negligible. We have a lot of immigration from the Indian Subcontinent which is not, to the best of my knowledge, in the E.U.

Peregrina · 04/03/2019 09:30

Funny that - we are usually told that Leavers didn't vote to curb immigration. Wonder how surferjet and others feel that although EU immigration is down, that from the rest of the world has increased. You know, that part of immigration that we have always had control of. Not that part of immigration which we could have controlled better but chose not to.

But sorry, as you were, Leaving was not about immigration.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 09:33

@surferjet never bothers with Brexit threads apparently.

Caucasianchalkcircles · 04/03/2019 09:38

So our 8 out of 15 libraries were shut due to immigration, likewise the surestart centres ..... immigrants queuing outside to get in.
And regarding housing much of the
stuff being built are executive 5 bed homes and city centre flats rather than affordable family housing.....
scandalous that she’s offering the money now after years of being told no magic money tree !

Sanguineclamp · 04/03/2019 09:38

At least you are now being honest about your reasons for voting Leave Surfer.

You do know that migrants are net contributors to public finance?

surferjet · 04/03/2019 09:39

You can’t run with the foxes & the hounds.

Moaning about building on the greenbelt whilst supporting campaigns run by ‘Open Britain’ just makes you look silly.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 09:41

How am I supporting Open Britain? Remind me.

Peregrina · 04/03/2019 09:42

Need to tell May and her chums that surferjet. Or your Leaver pals.

surferjet · 04/03/2019 10:45

How am I supporting Open Britain? Remind me

Open Britain supports all the ‘peoples vote/ 2nd referendum/ stop brexit marches - which I’m assuming you support too?

That’s fine, be in bed with these people, but don’t moan when your open spaces have tower blocks on them housing half of Europe.

Tanith · 04/03/2019 11:00

We had areas changed from greenbelt to brown, then planning applications granted to build on them. Prime farming land, too!

It has more to do with greed and corruption than immigration, though.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 11:01

All kinds of people support a people's vote - I don't and have said so on here a lot but, hey ho, facts, eh? Slippery things.
As for the slimy racist bastards who have also been supporting Brexit, let's not mention them either, shall we. Lie down with dogs get up with fleas.

Peregrina · 04/03/2019 11:08

How are you going to feel surferjet when the tower blocks aren't housing half of Europe, but people from the Indian sub-continent? I trust you will say that's wonderful - we owe them something after the Empire.

Somehow, I don't think you will.

Caucasianchalkcircles · 04/03/2019 11:38

Downright racist and simplistic comments of the type from surferjet are sadly what have led us to this sorry situation. Hey ho as long as we keep ‘half of Europe ‘ out who cares what the impact on the poor
and vulnerable is, especially if you’re well insulated with a substantial pension and house in an undoubtedly affluent leafy suburb or shire town probably in the south !

surferjet · 04/03/2019 11:54

Caucasianchalkcircles

People who call anyone with concerns over immigration ‘racists’ are what got us where we are today.

Trying to shut down debate by insulting peoole eventully gets you brexit.
But you never learn.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 12:02

No, @surferjet . You don't get away with that. You claimed I supported Open Britain. I don't. You claimed I wanted a People's Vote. I don't. You claimed I want to Stop Brexit. I want to stop No Deal Brexit.
You claimed my concerns about local GreenBelt destruction were incompatible with my views. Don't see it.
You also talked about housing blocks going up in my area full of E.U. immigrants as a consequence of my views. This doesn't add up. The main immigration in my area is from the Indian subcontinent despite it being an alleged magnet for people from E Europe what with it being a very catholic working class area (they still exist in Britain).

surferjet · 04/03/2019 12:07

Not quite sure what side you’re on then & tbh you sound a bit uncertain too.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 12:08

Nope. Very clearly voted Remain but prepared to accept WA as least worst Brexit option. Said that loads on here. You and I have sparred on this before.

surferjet · 04/03/2019 12:10

So you’re not supportive of the march happening later this month?

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 12:14

Supportive of the right to do it. Not going on it. Prepared to leave but only on WA terms. Have an Irish born parent (as does DH) so we don't lose our E.U. citizenship rights. Nor does dd once she is on the FBR. I'm a general prepper so I'm more or less ready for this shit show that I didn't vote for.
I am against mayhem and disorder and see WA as the least worst option.

Caucasianchalkcircles · 04/03/2019 12:20

I’m going to bite but how has immigration affected you surferjet ?
Nobody’s shutting any discussion down. You just don’t get that public services are under strain because of austerity and underinvestment. Come up here to the north west and see how grim it is, it’s blatantly not due to immigration although I accept that many poorer less skilled migrants head here because the standard of living as far as rent etc is much cheaper and that has caused issues.

surferjet · 04/03/2019 12:43

I haven’t personally been effected by high levels of immigration, but many people have.
And of course I accept our country is a mess because of our own governments, we’re quite capable of fucking up without any help from the EU.
But if we’re struggling, why let more people in?
Yes I know they add to the economy, but they also need housing, school places, hospital services etc, It’s a double edged sword.
I voted leave to stop F.O.M & the exploitation of cheap labour. Plus I wasn’t sure what direction the EU was going in ( would Turkey eventually join? who knows? ) so I voted out to protect us.
However, if I’m honest, being in the EU ( as it was then ) made absolutely no difference to my life on a day to day basis.

Ps: sorrry about all typo’s but for some reason my preview function doesn’t work anymore.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2019 12:48

So, @surferjet , you too recognise that Leave wasn't all beautiful just as I recognise Remain wasn't all beautiful. You voted your way. I voted mine. Yours got more votes.
It is the triumphalist bollocks that gets on my nerves and explains why I will be dragged out of the EU by Leavers. I will not skip out merrily into fantasy sunlit uplands.
