...Children! Lollipops! Lollipops if you vote for my deal!

Well the £13 Billion extra for new 'red tape' and a 10% hike in tariffs is a bit of a bummer myself. I don't remember that on the red bus.
We were promised BETTER than could be obtained by being an EU member, it is time to come up with the goods.
I won't be alive in 50 years time sop can't wait too long.

Peregrina · 08/03/2019 18:06

So instead of EU staff we will almost certainly recruit staff from Africa, and Asia to plug the gaps. This annoys me even more - we deprive them of their educated people when their needs are greater than ours.

But that's not directly Brexit related - just how we have always gone on since we had an Empire.

Millyonthe · 08/03/2019 18:11

I agree with your reservations about nabbing skilled people from other countries. But I can't see that hiring from the Philippines, for example, is morally any worse than hiring from Romania.

ContinuityError · 08/03/2019 18:33

EU staff are no more valuable to UK unis than staff from other countries. No offence to the EU 27 but their universities are not world-class.

Plenty of world class EU27 universities, although it’s the US unis that are bumping the UK ones down the list.

But it’s not just the EU staff that make a difference - it’s all that EU project funding that the UK is already missing out on.

Maybe that’s part of the reason why the UK unis are on the slide?

Coppersulphate · 08/03/2019 20:18

Hey Millie, I am a Leaver on here and have taken the brunt of their venom for several days. Beware though, these remainers will misquote you, accuse you of saying things you did not say and generally make things up.
I did not vote leave because I wanted anything more than to leave the EU.
No, that's not true. I wanted us to leave quickly.

TheElementsSong · 08/03/2019 20:23

Ohhh-kayyyyy.

Peregrina · 08/03/2019 20:25

We you must be disappointed then Coppersulphate because every time something is agree the Leave side start having a tantrum and back May goes to have another try. If they had put their money where their mouths were it might have been settle two years ago.

jasjas1973 · 09/03/2019 08:40

Jeez how the xxxx can Romania be compared to the Philippines ?

It may not be Germany but it has a functioning democracy and doesn't solve drug problems with state killings, the Philippines is way behind and by any measure is a 3rd world country, esp its birth death rate.

Romania - Gdp per capita $11k similar to Russia.
Philippines " " $2 .7k slightly higher than India.

If this is the standard of a leavers education, its no wonder they got us into this mess.

bellinisurge · 09/03/2019 09:22

I think what Romania and the Philippines have in common is "furrin" and "cheap labour " and "piss off Romania = piss of E.U.". That's about the size of it.

TheElementsSong · 09/03/2019 09:32

I think you could have put a full stop after "furrin" bellini Grin

Millyonthe · 09/03/2019 10:04

Have any of you done business in Romania? I have. Why do you question the education level of someone on the Internet that you have never met. It's quite rude.

Romania has quite a lot in common with the Philippines. In particular the sad fact that so many of their bright young people work abroad.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/may/30/romanians-uk-tragedy-homeland-corruption-poverty

jasjas1973 · 09/03/2019 10:19

My brother lived there until last year, i know it quite well, it has changed substantially in recent years.

Like the Polish before them, very soon, these Romanians will start to return home as the economy grows, currently 4% per annum.

Young people seeking to work abroad isn't sad at all, its good
BUT yet again your knowledge of the two countries is woeful, 2% of filipinos work abroad, 14% of Romanians, why? because most filipinos lack basic education, so trying to pinch the few educated ones they have got is immoral.

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:32

we owe them something after the Empire

How?

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:34

It is the triumphalist bollocks that gets on my nerves and explains why I will be dragged out of the EU by Leavers

What stops you from relocating to Brussels?

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:38

Ditto Sunderland car workers. You were warned, you were advised not to vote Leave, you dismissed it all as Project Fear

Leave not just about money. Identify and freedom were likely part of the decision too.

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:42

You re fixed in your views and beliefs

Many vote on that principle. Mining villages in the North of England still vote labour even though the mines are closed because that is the tradition.

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:45

Not unless you believe some people are more equal than others

There lies the problem. From various threads I get the impression that those who voted remain are of the view that their opinion is superior to those who voted leave and therefore the result of the 2016 referendum is not valid?

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:47

History will be the judge of both May and Cameron, and at the moment I can't see it being kind to either of them

With the money they have do you think they will be bothered?

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:56

We would revoke A50 and the problem is solved

So a vote cast by 16.1 million takes priority over a vote cast by 17.4 million?

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 02:59

If you ignore people like me, the Leave project is screwed

How?

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 03:03

Stop dicking about trying to make people love Brexit and just say you accept WA is the surest way to get it

If those who voted remain think WA is a good deal then it suggests to me that WA is not Brexit, but remain in disguise?

MissedTheBoatAgain · 12/03/2019 03:08

Give 3 benefits of no deal

UK does not need to pay 39 Billion settlement

UK does not need to pay 50 million per day to EU

UK is out of EU for sure

UK free to set their own laws

UK can't be used as a dumping ground for asylum seekers who should have been dealt with by the first EU Country they arrived in as opposed to being allowed to travel to Calais with the objective of entering UK

That is more than three

bellinisurge · 12/03/2019 06:17

For anyone who missed it yesterday, @MissedTheBoatAgain hasn't lived in the UK or E.U. for 30 years. So it is easy to make sweeping statements that mean very little to real life if you only watch the UK on TV from several time zones away.

RollerJed · 12/03/2019 06:21

I figured as much from the time posting, but the bumping of all the Brexi threads 🙄

Where are they and how exactly does it affect them after 30 years?

Btw missedtheboatagain you're a typical leave voter if you could vote to me. Not actually having to weather the storm but great at stirring shit.

twofingerstoEverything · 12/03/2019 06:46

It's probably time to ignore the GF now. He's talking about goosestepping and mustaches on other threads, so has clearly exhausted any sensible arguments he may have put forward earlier.
