Brexit

Honestly - how likely is it now that Brexit will never happen?

There's just 57 days to go until we leave the EU.

Is there still a chance that Brexit will be stopped in some way, politicians will see sense, the whole thing will be called off and we will remain in the EU?

How likely is that to happen?

Im planning for at least a week.

Elfinablender · 31/01/2019 09:46

Tbf, "We won't starve" is an important starting point though while the drama hits fever pitch and anxiety levels rise. Food will be more expensive and less varied might be more accurate although less impressive card on the table.

daftgeranium · 31/01/2019 09:47

Unfortunately the only way that Brexit will not happen, is if the Tory MPs in Parliament suddenly wake up and remember that their job is representing the best interests of their people - not driving the country ever deeper into a pit on behalf of the super-rich and the multinationals.

It hasn't happened for the last 8 years and it's not likely to happen now.

Anyone who voted Tory should be ashamed.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2019 09:48

Why do we need it as a slogan?
Only stupid people think it will happen
Do you know how much waste there is anything in this country ...
Maybe people will buy seasonal vegetables, and look at what they need, not what they desire. It won't kill us to do that ..

bellinisurge · 31/01/2019 09:49

So the ridiculing option is what you are going for. Just so we are clear.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2019 09:51

No the common sense option.

bellinisurge · 31/01/2019 09:53

Please remember to tell the MoD that their actions in "forward purchasing " are causing food shortages.

TheWomanin12B · 31/01/2019 09:54

Christ on a bike. Why should I have to live in war-like conditions? It's absolute lunacy inflicted upon us by cultists.

Triglesoffy · 31/01/2019 09:59

Thank heavens that the City, most bug supermarkets most bug businesses, the apPort of Calais and many many more quiet heroes are ignoring the gov and media and actually prepping for us to leave the EU

I hate to disillusion you infinitesheldon but the big businesses are preparing to leave the U.K. and the ports are paralysed. The ports are landowners and it is the government who provides the custom and excise personnel (the government has done nothing) and it is the food import companies who provide the warehousing and chiller storage warehouses (they’ve built nothing). All the ports have done / been able to do is to clear extra land as a massive lorry park for when everything backs up and the ports are gridlocked.

I am directly involved in this. I haven’t sourced my info from the internet. I wish you well for the future and good luck.

areyoubeingserviced · 31/01/2019 09:59

We will leave with no deal.
We will all have a rude awakening in terms of our workers rights, trade ,travel etc
The Brexiteers such as Farage, Johnson et al are terrified of a No deal as it will disprove their warped theory that the UK can do without the EU.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2019 10:00

Forgive me if I am wrong, but isn't stock piling by the end consumer causing the shortages on supermarket shelves.
Ok course the government are planning to source extra provisions.
But if they ensure there is sufficient stock for each week for everyone , and some people buy three times what they need in week one, then it becomes a self for filling prophecy...

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/01/2019 10:01

Something has to happen.

Either Brexit or revoke, otherwise the uncertainty will be really bad for the UK.,

SleepDeprivedCabbageBrain · 31/01/2019 10:02

It looks like no deal is likely, which will be a massive clusterfuck.

ChariotsofFish · 31/01/2019 10:04

The pound has strengthened three to four cents against the euro over the last week. That can only mean the markets are predicting Brexit won’t happen.

jasjas1973 · 31/01/2019 10:06

Some leavers are clearly WW2 fantasists.

But i think there will be a new deal, an extension in order to get a new deal, a revoke or a GE and more chaos.

A no-deal will significantly damage the Tory party and though they are happy for us to go back to the 50s, they know we'll never vote for them again.

bellinisurge · 31/01/2019 10:06

How is the stuff I bought two months ago causing a shortage? Was at a supermarket early this morning. No empty shelves because Just in Time still works.
Realising that you need to do something a week or so before Just in Time gets hammered by No Deal, may start to have an impact. That is panic buying. I'm trying to get people to do the opposite of panic buying. Slowly build up extras to create resilience in their pantry. But the time for doing that is running out.
I'm only suggesting three days worth because that is generally feasible and doable. Anything else is a personal decision.
Again, tell the MoD that it shouldn't act in our service personnel's best interest. They'd love to hear from you.

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2019 10:07

Yay Brexit we won't starve and planes won't drop out of the sky. Such a fantastic idea. Fuck this shit.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2019 10:08

Jasjas. Your so wrong.
Labour needs a new leader.

People don't know who they can vote for....
There is no party that is the best option...
Reform will come for parliament on all sides

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2019 10:13

Buying extra for a few days is not the same as the panic buying, I quiet agree on that .
The MOD making plans, expected, the best thing to do .
See I agree with you on this

jasjas1973 · 31/01/2019 10:17

Mummy - i am not wrong, people who want a no-deal brexit are either retired and on fixed incomes, v wealthy or have nothing, but for the vast majority, they will not be happy to lose their jobs, go into debt, lose their house, even limited food choices etc etc its fine in theory until it actually happens.

Parliament won't change, it will still be adversarial, we'll still have a FPTP voting system and the people in charge will still be picked from the same pool that has failed the UK for decades.

bellinisurge · 31/01/2019 10:18

There you go, @mummmy2017 . Agreement is possible.

Flamingosnbears · 31/01/2019 10:19

The most definitely will be a Brexit... In the form of No Deal.

SillySallySingsSongs · 31/01/2019 10:24

Very unlikely. I think thr fact that Corbyn went into talk to May with Seamus Milne rather rathan Kier Starmer speaks volumes.

Also the way he spoke when he came out.

Blinkingblimey · 31/01/2019 10:25

Sadly I think it will happen. I hope for the best but have prepared for the worst which is, unfortunately, likely. If this all proves anything it’s that our education system needs to massively improve, particularly in the subjects of history (do people just watch films these days and assume it’s factual?!) and maths/economics (the final year uni student who couldn’t work out her exam percentage thread on here a couple of days ago being a case in point!!).

Toffeeandcoffee · 31/01/2019 10:27

I voted Leave.
I'm very disappointed in the calibre of our politicians and any people's protests should be against the useless, self serving gang in Westminster (on all sides.)

I don't think Brexit will be called off, and a no deal is looking more and more likely. Tbh though, nothing would surprise me now. We are living in extraordinary times for sure.
