Brexit

Honestly - how likely is it now that Brexit will never happen?

There's just 57 days to go until we leave the EU.

Is there still a chance that Brexit will be stopped in some way, politicians will see sense, the whole thing will be called off and we will remain in the EU?

How likely is that to happen?

I’m wondering the same. Even the Today Programme which is usually pretty calm as a news source is basically saying everything is on fire and no one knows what the hell is going on or how to change it.

RussellSprout · 31/01/2019 08:33

Well we are already the laughing stock of the world, so no face left to save by pushing through with it.

Topseyt · 31/01/2019 08:33

Very unlikely. They are all far too stupid.

I'd love to be proven wrong there though. I think Brexit is the most ridiculous and destructive idea in this country for decades.

TheWomanin12B · 31/01/2019 08:34

I think we will crash out with no deal and it will be catastrophic.

AgentProvocateur · 31/01/2019 08:34

No one of them have the balls to stop it. They’re all too focused on their own self-interest.

RussellSprout · 31/01/2019 08:35

I'm just saddened that we have to be governed by these incompetents. The British people deserve better.

Theworldisfullofgs · 31/01/2019 08:35

I hate brexit. But personally I think the most likely outcome is no deal.
They will then attempt to blame the EU.

DameSquashalot · 31/01/2019 08:36

I think the vote against the no deal was really an attempt to stop Brexit.

niceupthedance · 31/01/2019 08:37

I think we are heading for no deal and the EU will be pleased because it will discourage other member states from trying to leave

ChampooPapi · 31/01/2019 08:38

@TheWomanin12B I really think your right, it is all so sad I can't believe it's come to this

ragged · 31/01/2019 08:38

I can't imagine revoke; MPs lack the courage. The MPs are (reasonably) afraid of PV which is only other mechanism that would stop the train.

Delay is a non-starter for many reasons.

IceOnTheCar · 31/01/2019 08:38

MPs showing us who they are, self-serving.

InfiniteSheldon · 31/01/2019 08:41

Hopefully we will leave with no deal which is what any sensible business has been planning for. Our utterly useless politicians, civil service and BBC will be shown up as the lying two-faced idiotic remoaniacs terrifying people for no good reason that anyone with a shred of commonsense can already see.

IceOnTheCar · 31/01/2019 08:41

Nobody will want to enter into trade deals with a country that wants control of it's borders and has no respect for others wanting to control what happens to it's borders, tears up a WA, bullies it's neighbor and destroys an international peace treaty.

The UK is run by narcissists who think they are superior to others.

SilverDoe · 31/01/2019 08:43

A few days ago I read a nice reassuring article saying Brexit with no deal was, while possible, highly improbable.

This government seemingly has managed to do a complete 180 on that and it now seems more and more likely each day.

I agree with Vince Cable’s message that parliament has ruled out no deal but contrarily instructed the government to pursue a course of action which will most likely result in no deal.

I just can’t believe we are in this situation. I can’t believe it hasn’t been addressed with any seriousness or urgency until around 60 days before the deadline.

The whole thing is horrific and embarrassing and we do not have an inch of leverage to lean on. Who the hell knows how no deal is going to be avoided now.

StealthPolarBear · 31/01/2019 08:44

I'm optimistic that we can turn this around, remain in the EU and start to rebuild relationships within and outside the UK.

Theworldisfullofgs · 31/01/2019 08:44

infinite as a certified remaininc. I hope you are right.
But why are you so angry, you won? Not sure what you won but you won.

Random18 · 31/01/2019 08:47

I am still hopeful.
TM wants a deal.
As long as the EU don’t blink 1st then she is not going to get the changes the ERG / DUP want.
If parliament stand firm and don’t back the deal then I hope she may then Revoke.
I think there is some thoughts that she does have the power to do this?
And then I think she will resign.

gamerchick · 31/01/2019 08:48

I thought no way until the BBC published they article scaring the masses with food shortages. The BBC is a propaganda machine so I'm wondering if it's a signal that it's going to be called off.

Course that's my personal opinion.

SilverDoe · 31/01/2019 08:48

How is the vote against no deal an attempt to stop Brexit? Confused

Surely a delay, as per the part that says “unless a deal has been reached” is only in place to avoid a catastrophic no deal. If the government its shit sorted out and did what is is supposed to do and has had 2 and a half years to do, then the delay wouldn’t come into affect at all and we’d happily sail out of the EU and into the glorious sunset Hmm

And of course the legally binding version of the amendment wasn’t even voted through so it has no effect on precious Brexit

Random18 · 31/01/2019 08:50

I am not sure what counts as common sense.............
For me it’s not shouting loudest, with no care if it’s the truth or not but listening to others, especially experts.

But hey i’m sure the strongest of us will survive.

Doubletrouble99 · 31/01/2019 08:53

No chance.
If you saw the voting on Tuesday you'd know there's no way parliament would vote for that.
A second referendum wasn't even put up as an amendment and that was the only real chance the remainers had of changing things.

InfiniteSheldon · 31/01/2019 08:54

How could anyone, remained or leaver not be angry at the political establishment handling of this from pre-referendum to now?. An utter failure to read the mood of the electorate compounded by constantly insulting voters with both Project Fear bullying and Leave campaign lies lead to a result that shocked the haves to their core. Our political establishment has spent two and a half years trying to thwart the majority failing to address, even acknowledge the basis of the malcontent (for the hard if understanding it's sovereignty not immigration). Two and half years of our gov trying to remain while pretending to leave. Thank heavens that the City, most bug supermarkets most bug businesses, the apPort of Calais and many many more quiet heroes are ignoring the gov and media and actually prepping for us to leave the EU superstate we never chose not as a country want to be in.
