Brexit

Honestly - how likely is it now that Brexit will never happen?

There's just 57 days to go until we leave the EU.

Is there still a chance that Brexit will be stopped in some way, politicians will see sense, the whole thing will be called off and we will remain in the EU?

How likely is that to happen?

The government has said more houses need building, why not train students to build houses
There will be lots of new plans as things change. Yes it will happen, because needs must
If you spend your time always knocking ideas down, it must make you very bitter

Lol! well, its certainly made you very bitter!

Your ideas are complete and utter tosh, they are based in some alternative reality, that is why they get knocked down.

You also clearly no nothing about the changes in tax relief for buy to let landlords nor anything about how or who builds houses

jasjas1973 · 01/02/2019 13:21

*know

Why don’t we indeed, Stalin sent them to build the bright future and see how well it worked out for them.

I’m leaving this thread for the sake of my own sanity, or what little’s left of it.

Random18 · 01/02/2019 13:22

@mummy I really don’t think so.

You have chosen to back the wrong horse I’m afraid.

aethelgifu · 01/02/2019 13:22

This is like watching trees walk into a fire. 'We picked fruit and it didn't do us any harm!'

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2019 13:23

Try checking about the tax on landlords....

jasjas1973 · 01/02/2019 13:25

I know exactly what the changes are and they are not what you claimed in your earlier post

aethelgifu · 01/02/2019 13:26

Random what if this is the start of us the public making the MPs change things.
What if they suddenly fear for their jobs if they don't listen and change

This is one of the funniest thing I've ever read on here. I think you missed your calling as a comedienne. 99.9% of the MPs don't need to fear for losing their jobs as MP and fewer than that give a fuck about listening to anyone or changing.

Bluntness100 · 01/02/2019 13:32

I'm not sure there is any point in this debate.

Mummy, I understand why you desperately want change for you and yours. Hunkering down and praying for a land of milk and honey that doesn't exist, when factually presented with the fact it doesn't exist and you and yours will hurt more, is less understandable.

To use an old Scottish phrase, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride, which means if just wishing for something could make it happen, then even the worst off in society would have everything they need.

The sad fact is, wishing it won't make it happen when you're faced with indisputable evidence to the contrary.

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2019 13:36

I may have got the tax rate wrong.. but I do know that income of rent is now being taxed, that it means landlords are selling up as not profitable anymore....
Either way it means less rental properties around.

Peregrina · 01/02/2019 13:43

Either way it means less rental properties around.

Which means that rents go up.

jasjas1973 · 01/02/2019 13:45

Jesus! less rental properties means higher rents, which is exactly what is happening.

Oh yes "change" alright!

Bluntness100 · 01/02/2019 13:48

And the amount of renters is increasing, so more demand, and it's forecast to continue to increase. And will get even worse if mortgage rates rise.

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2019 13:55

Or the councils built more affordable housing. Just like I said....

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2019 13:57

Remember UKIP.
How worried DC was
How this happened...
Still think I am dreaming.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/02/2019 14:00

There is no political will from the Tories to build affordable housing. Having people in insecure rentals suits them and it suits their landlord supporters. Homelessness has risen dramatically over the last 8 years.

Bluntness100 · 01/02/2019 14:01

Where will the money come from op to build d this housing? With rising inflation, rising unemployment and less tax pounds being paid in. Where will this money come from mummy?

Bluntness100 · 01/02/2019 14:01

Sorry, not op, mummy!

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/02/2019 14:02

How do councils build more houses when they are having their budgets slashed? The provision of social housing now usually sits with housing associations

FishesaPlenty · 01/02/2019 14:09

I may have got the tax rate wrong.. but I do know that income of rent is now being taxed, that it means landlords are selling up as not profitable anymore....

Oh, you 'know' that do you? Here's me thinking that it was just that HIGHER RATE taxpayers can no longer claim mortgage interest against their taxable profits.

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2019 14:30

Borrowing, the govenment has already announced plans that councils can borrow to build...

Bluntness100 · 01/02/2019 14:40

Borrowing, the govenment has already announced plans that councils can borrow to build...

No, they lifted the cap. However it's not as simple as that. The overwhelming majority don't have eithe thr capacity or the capability to do that, and to get that capacity and capability they would need to divert their resources from other areas, other areas that need the resources, like social care.

In addition where will they build? There is huge opposition to new housing developments and in addition new council estates in many areas.

Then to top it off, the money has to be borrowed, not gifted, they need to pay it back,

This is with the ability to borrow today, the vast majority of them do not.

mummmy2017 · 01/02/2019 14:43

Hang on, if you borrow build and rent out. The rental will cover the borrowing, and the money that currently goes as profit to landlords will become the councils own profit.. but hey don't let me stop your gloom game ...

StoorieHoose · 01/02/2019 14:44

Where will the councils get the trades to build these houses? No one with any sense will leave a full time permanent job for a week to week contract (which is all the councils round here offer trades)

StoorieHoose · 01/02/2019 14:45

Bloody hell mummy if it was that simple do you not think Councils would be doing it already?
