Good morning brexiteers.

Well, we’re almost there ( although today will be interesting )
So if you’re not worried in the slightest about anything ( I’m not ) then jump into the pool of tranquility, & let the warm water of optimism & new beginnings wash over you.

Fully appreciate some remainers have real concerns, but in the interest of balance, plenty of us haven’t.

This thread is for us.

This 45% of people in NI. That vote is astonishing. For the first time pretty much ever, the majority of people put aside "tribal" loyalties and voted Remain. There is no way that 55% is just one community or another. Which should tell people how important respecting GFA is.

Cornishclio · 30/01/2019 19:12

I am not panicking and perfectly tranquil but I did vote remain. We can't do anything and certainly won't be stockpiling food or medicine. Whatever the eventual outcome is we will deal with it then.

I feel sorry for those who are poor or rely on medications. We are luckily both retired with good pensions and no mortgage but we have adult children who are reliant on jobs so I hope they are ok.

I just really want the whole sorry mess over and done with and hope every leaver is satisfied enough to shut up about how they just want to go now and get rid of the EU. I always say though B3 wary of what you wish for.

StoorieHoose · 30/01/2019 19:12

“We would have let you go”

Well gee thanks! We aren’t YOURS to let go ffs!

The EU are letting the UK go - they are making sure that Ireland’s (you know a partner in their union) is properly supported they aren’t saying ‘oh no UK we won’t let you go”

Whatsnewwithyou · 30/01/2019 19:13

Ok but what benefits will leaving the EU bring? Can any leaver say what these will be and why we should be calm and happy? Because I would really like to be calm and happy please and thank you!!

Rosehip10 · 30/01/2019 19:13

why do leavers drone on about fishing so much - fishing is about 0.1% of the UK economy (and daily mail rants about Europeans stealing our fish are rubbish - have a look at how fishing quotas have been sold by British fishermen/firms) and anyway do you really think this Tory government won't sell this out this industry as needed?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 30/01/2019 19:20

when you object to a permanent backstop, what this really means is that you intend to break the terms of an international peace treaty
What a load of tosh. The UK has made it very clear that they have no intention of building a 'hard' border with Ireland. And it has no intention of breaking the Belfast agreement. So you are just spreading lies.

surferjet · 30/01/2019 19:22

why do leavers drone on about fishing so much

I’ve never mentioned it. Ever.

I pity leavers who still think the cake and eat it option is still viable. The WA is the best you will get. BMW’s and Prosecco was never a bargaining chip.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 30/01/2019 19:25

The WA is the best you will get
Disagree because no deal is better than the original WA.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 30/01/2019 19:25

Leave EU/Respect GFA currently at the square peg round hole stage.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 30/01/2019 19:27

No deal is worse to anyone that doesn’t want to destroy the economy. I don’t recall no deal being on the side of a red bus. Someone did mention easiest trade deal in history though.

{The UK has made it very clear that they have no intention of building a 'hard' border with Ireland. And it has no intention of breaking the Belfast agreement. So you are just spreading lies.}
To comply with WTO trading rules a border is necessary. The EU is also required to have a border too at it's 'perimeter'.
Not sure of the actual Belfast Agreement wording but any physical construction, possibly even cameras, could be defined as a border.

Please explain your reason for this assertion.

Badbadbunny · 30/01/2019 19:34

Am I being thick, but if there's no deal, surely there needs to be a hard border between NI and ROI?

surferjet · 30/01/2019 19:34

Whatsnewwithyou

Leaving the EU is not going to change the lives of most people tbh. I doubt some will even notice.
How it affects you personally who knows?
But catastrophizing brexit in the way many remainers on here do, is ridiculous.
There are people dealing with real problems, like being diagnosed with terminal cancer, or having just lost a loved one, do you think they give a flying fuck about the EU?

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 30/01/2019 19:37

They might do if they can’t get their medication thanks to no deal.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 30/01/2019 19:38

Leave EU/Respect GFA currently at the square peg round hole stage
Only in remainers heads.

any physical construction, possibly even cameras, could be defined as a border.
I guess we better take off all the cameras we already have at the border then. Confused

Please explain your reason for this assertion
The original WA could separate NI from the rest of the UK. Plus the EU could keep us trapped in the 'backstop' until we do what we are told forever.
No deal, or amended WA should get us out of the EU and keeps NI in the UK aka better.

A very interesting proposition that leaving the EU will hardly be noticed.
You will definitely notice.

mummmy2017 · 30/01/2019 19:39

When a child is born they are a blank page, which time and tide write upon.
Somethings are known,. But you can never predict who the child will be... Good or bad, smart or silly. Will they marry or have children.
Brexit is like that, yet to make choices...

Rosehip10 · 30/01/2019 19:40

@surferjet - I imagine anyone who is concerned about cancer diagnosis and treatment should be worried about the potential shortage of radioactive isotopes in event of a no-deal?

jasjas1973 · 30/01/2019 19:45

Over time, there has to be a border, smuggling, people trafficking, food standards - the ROI won't want hormone US beef.
It'll start with patrols, then vehicle checks, border agents need to be based somewhere.... become a target, need protection, soldiers etc

Its all utopia isn't it?

Whatsnewwithyou · 30/01/2019 19:47

@surferjet thanks for responding and I really, really hope you're right....it's difficult to understand what the point is though when the best we can hope for is we might not notice??

Walkingdeadfangirl · 30/01/2019 19:50

The Irish border already has smuggling and people trafficking. Food standards do not have to be checked at the border, they can be checked (if needed) at its origin/ destination or essentially anywhere.

So no reason for a hard border there then.

twofingerstoEverything · 30/01/2019 19:52

No, badbunny. It's definitely not you who's being thick...

mummmy2017 · 30/01/2019 19:52

Or we get great trade deals.
Stocks rise, after being depressed.
We have a rise in living standards.
Buy British becomes a by word for luxury.
More houses are built.
We thrive....
