Good morning brexiteers.

Well, we’re almost there ( although today will be interesting )
So if you’re not worried in the slightest about anything ( I’m not ) then jump into the pool of tranquility, & let the warm water of optimism & new beginnings wash over you.

Fully appreciate some remainers have real concerns, but in the interest of balance, plenty of us haven’t.

This thread is for us.

Every single time you ask a Leaver to a) say what specific FACTUAL aspect of being in the EU made them want to Leave, and
B) what tangible benefits will there be once we’ve left,

There’s no substantial or factual answer.

That worries me. A lot.

Aw come on, it's more of an idea than a shipping company with no ships.
Surely 'basic' training with first years doing part on the job and part classroom work to get them up to standard to be assistants can't be too difficult.
Washing, feeding and changing beds etc is a very necessary but hardly 'technical' job. I am not looking down on these jobs, they probably represent a vast proportion of care work and society needs them.

It all requires Vision though, and a 15 year time scale or thereabouts. Vision, as I already said, is totally absent, and all Governments are interested in is, how will they do in the next election. Just imagine a Govt having a 15 to 20 year plan for medicine and then being booted out 3 years later, for the next Government to scrap it all.

Back in the 50s my immigrant mum trained here to be nurse because there weren't enough British people to work in the new NHS. She was terribly prim and proper but had to steal bread from the wards to eat. Patients would often feed her. Although some were abusive to her for coming over here etc etc while she was wiping their arses. She became a highly qualified nurse and eventually a midwife (call the midwife era).
Perhaps we could go back to that.

This is a thread for people optimistic about brexit. If that’s not you, then other threads are available

True, we should leave you to it, it'll be a very short lived thread, bereft of ideas and optimism... bit like brexit.

{The building would help employment in the country, apprenticeships for trades, let's do it as not for profit, bonuses for coming on time under budget}
Of course, The exercise should be conducted in a 'not for profit' framework, or perhaps a limit to say 1% which could go towards bonuses.
There is an upcoming disaster in looking after the elderly in the UK (actually worldwide) so sympathetically designed retirement complexes with warm modern bungalow type accommodation with several different 'community' areas so residents can mingle if they want, but are otherwise separate if they don't want, with onsite nurse and shop/hairdresser/?? to build a community. Option for a bit of garden for each for 'pottering'.
Bus access so that it is practical to go further afield easily.

1tisILeClerc · 31/01/2019 10:46

Residents encouraged to have their 'apartment' decorated as they want, and have their own furniture so it is their home.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2019 10:50

I have been to several retirement villages,. Visiting family, they seemed nice. Cafe for meals if you don't cook, were ordered the day before if someone was unable to get out .. bit like motel rooms, but with small kitchen and a lounge...
They had a doctor and a nurse, and meeting rooms.
Always thought if you had housing association or council house part of your agreement should be you would vacate and move when needed

None of it helped by May's uncompromising attitude, or attempting to appease the ERG. I am not the only one who thinks that if she had said the vote was close, she was going to examine all the options and then come back with proposals before triggering A50 we might then have been able to find areas which both sides could compromise on and find a consensus.

Agreed. Party first, always. First Cameron, now May. I don't know how they sleep at night really.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 31/01/2019 12:30

I see May has shuck the magic money tree down again for areas previously fucked over by Thatcherism. Makes you wonder what austerity was all about...

BorisBogtrotter · 31/01/2019 12:58

I see Mummy is in fantasy land again.

bellinisurge · 31/01/2019 13:00

Thing is, we are all in the lagoon whether we want to be or not.

I see Mummy is in fantasy land again.}
That is a bit unfair.
SOMEONE is going to have to think positively in the very near future and as the departure of many skilled jobs to Europe will decimate whole towns some radical thinking will be necessary.
My suggestion of medical training, if done right would not only help solve the shortages of medics in the UK but by intergovernmental negotiation, supply medics to other countries, bringing in investment to the UK. The other building and ancillary jobs that would be required will also help. If you want something to happen you have to struggle to make it happen and sitting on your backside complaining simply won't do.

BorisBogtrotter · 31/01/2019 13:19

We will still be importing skilled labour.

There will be a fudge after massive shortages and other levels of Labour will be allowed back too.

The Time lag for skills training is too difficult to get over, as is the free rider problem.

Had we done this for ourselves before it would be fine, but starting in reaction to falling immigration is a bad idea.

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2019 13:21

Don't worry, I never see most of our plans on here as anything but wishes, however several things we have mentioned in the last two years have been suddenly mentioned by MPs so I do wonder if we have some of their partners or even themselves on the site.

Toffeeandcoffee · 31/01/2019 13:25

So, do people think that in 2 weeks time we'll have a more concrete idea of what's happening?

Peregrina · 31/01/2019 14:14

Not with the dozy people in Parliament, no.

Quietrebel · 31/01/2019 17:37

If you want something to happen you have to struggle to make it happen and sitting on your backside complaining simply won't do.

Stating the obvious surely but the above would be fair enough in case of war or natural distaster. Why destroy the country in order to maybe rebuild it to the same standard in several decades?
