Westministenders: Game Over?

May has a draft deal which she has presented to the Cabinet. Woohooo!

The catch is, it doesn't mention the Irish Border. Just a minor point. This is because she has no way forward on it. There are so many red lines from so many different groups shes tangled up in knots with them.

She wrote a letter to the DUP to tell them to suck it up. Arlene has told her to stick it. And if she hadn't told her to stick it, Scottish Tories would have told her to stick it. David Davis has told her to stick it. Rees-Moog has told her to stick it. And this afternoon, one of the Ministers for Queues at Dover, Jo Johnson, told her to stick it and that we need a people's vote. On top of that, her plans to try and get cross party support and get the Labour Party to support it, have suffered a blow as Momentum voted to tell May to stick it.

In fact it might be harder to think of people who WILL support it.

Not that this is a surprise. We've all be aware of this for some time. Is it finally game over?

The government have at least seemingly realised that this month is the last opportunity they have for a deal. Dominic has also realised that Dover is quite close to France and this is quite a big deal.

The EU pushed back their meeting until the 27th. This coincidentally is the same day there is a decision over a50 at the ECJ and the right to revoke.

If May can't get her act together over the Irish Border, this might yet prove to be the last option open to her, to prevent Brexmaggeddon.

Jo Johnson is not too far from the mark with vassalage or chaos? Take your pick Mrs May.

Expecting:
Congratulations.
Fortunately swaddling is something that people can help with.
For your peace of mind I might suggest you avoid social media and all 'news' channels as far as possible for a while.

1tisILeClerc · 14/11/2018 11:46

{What is May banking on?}
Retiring to a nice place in Switzerland with her husband and money starting 30 March 2019.

woman11017 · 14/11/2018 11:48

DUP support looking sticky.

@peterweirmla
Politics may be the art of the possible, but it is also the science of mathematics of votes

ElenadeClermont · 14/11/2018 11:50

Osborne has had this headline ready for so long.

Westministenders: Game Over?
Hazardswan · 14/11/2018 11:51

I'm still digesting...

As a carer I'm all TAKE THE DEAL BUT IT SUCKS AND SHOULDNT BE HAPPENING.

If I were an MP i'd vote the deal down, it's cowardly to abstain, this deal pleases no one and makes for grumpy constituents. It's an easy spin to vote no to it because its what no one wants you can be the hero to everyone standing up for the little man.

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 11:53

Congratulations, expecting ! 💐💐

Someone here should be able to advise you on swaddling
< sorry, I'm childfree >

1tisILeClerc · 14/11/2018 11:56

Obviously totally trivial but I think Mrs May should employ a different 'style guru'.
That picture makes her look a bit like a dalek and previous ones with her puffy jacket made her look like a vampire.
On second thoughts, she might be spot on.

1tisILeClerc · 14/11/2018 11:58

And I am 'child amnesiac'. I vaguely remember doing it but it was a long time ago.

DGRossetti · 14/11/2018 12:00

Despite the shittiness of being illegally bounced into a Brexit by a load of spivs, I'm finding great comfort in imagining the Brexiteer splutterings up and down the country at Gorgeous Georges headline. Even more so at the dawning realisation that this really could be it. This is their Brexit.

I may even pop into some of the AIBU Brexit threads for a gloat.

("Gloaters ?"
"Yes, my Lord."
"You know you really are a complete prat, Percy ?"
"Why thank you, my Lord")

One big positive is that it stops dead the ERG wet dream of a quick US FTA

That's why they are so furious and will fight to the bitter end, including trying to topple her if they think it feasible

That US deal is already drafted , ready to sign

The US FTA would make the UK a US colony.

It would contain clauses

  • that would not only smash our current rules on food safety - for everyone who isn't wealthy -
  • but would enable US firms to demand the NHS be hived off,
  • that there is a bonfire of all those regulations that protect ordinary people: workers would be subject to US hire & fire practice even after 20 years not 2, rights for maternity, disability, health & safety, joining a trade union would all be scrapped, as would environmental & recycling rules that protec the general public
  • they would complete MrsT's roll back of the Welfare state that was created just after WW2, when the plebs last were fully in power

Fighting back against the ERG is always a good idea
If you find yourself on the same side as the ruthless hard right, think VERY hard why

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 12:10

Those worried about an EU army
should worry that after a US FTA our armed forces might become the standard cannon fodder of the US army,
to be pushed into every conflict where the US doesn't want lots of their own personnel returning in coffins

If you think we are the US poodle now ...
wait until the UK armed forces exist only to be sent in bulk at the order of POTUS

ElenadeClermont · 14/11/2018 12:15

Congratulations expecting. Flowers
I had a blanket which had instructions for swaddling on it, but DS learnt to wriggle out of it basically on day 1. Even the hospital nurses failed to keep him sausaged up. Confused Sorry that is no help.

DGRossetti · 14/11/2018 12:22

Know any Brexiteers ? Maybe think of them this Winterval ...

Westministenders: Game Over?

1tisILeClerc · 14/11/2018 12:26

{Even the hospital nurses failed to keep him sausaged up.}
Have they not heard of 'Duck tape' (other brands of industrial adhesive tape available)?
I am kidding of course.
A 'grow bag' is pretty good, the quilted bag, a bit like a traditional peg bag with a zip up the front but that is for later.
Thanks for the onward thoughts BCF. There is too much micro examination of the time between now and 29March and no obvious thought about what happens afterwards.
The UK will almost definitely be 'out' so it needs to come up with a 'what next' plan.

1tisILeClerc · 14/11/2018 12:27

Excellent DGR, so subtle!

ElenadeClermont · 14/11/2018 12:31

1tisILeClerc Grin Grobags are superb, but we only discovered them a bit later.

Varadkar treads fine line between overreach and triumph on Brexit deal

Government can claim huge success if mooted backstop is reflected in final deal

TheElementsSong · 14/11/2018 12:44

I may even pop into some of the AIBU Brexit threads for a gloat

I have been wanting to ask the "No Deal OutOutOut" Leavers on the various threads whether they're still bored of Brexit or are going to protest this potential deal. Encourage them to march, or write to their MPs: "This deal will keep planes flying, electricity flowing, food on our plates, and medicines on our shelves. I voted for all that to end, and for us all to be scavenging on twigs. Respect the Will!"

Thomasinaa · 14/11/2018 12:47

The whole thing has been about bluff calling. Very amateurishly done.

DGRossetti · 14/11/2018 13:09

Seems Surferjet is feeling "stitched up" ....

BigChocFrenzy · 14/11/2018 13:12

Ah what a shame 😂

Staringcoat · 14/11/2018 13:12

Interesting question from Ken Clarke just now during PMQs. A question about when Parliament will be allowed to view the legal text of the Brexit draft agreement and if MPs will get to see it in a timely manner before the vote, together with ministerial guidance . TM's response was a fudge indicating that she will be playing the long game.

Happily, the EU will be publishing it

Reckon the parliamentary vote will be going down to the wire at Christmas.

bellinisurge · 14/11/2018 13:16

Congratulations @expectingmother - be absolutely kind to yourself!

Easier to understand brexit timeline from the Mirror

www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/corbyn-slams-brexit-deal-failure-13588818

On phone so can't cut and paste. Feel like printing it off and sticking on the wall like I used to do when cramming for an exam Smile
