Good morning Smile

Voting to leave the European Union was a monumental decision, and one that will change the direction of our Country for decades to come.
I see that as an exciting opportunity & something to be welcomed & celebrated.

So, if you see solutions instead of problems, if you see a better future for the citizens of U.K., free from the constraints of an organisation we had no control over, then this place is for you.
Of course not everything is going to run smoothly, maybe not for years, because leaving a union drowning in red tape was never going to be easy, but we are forward thinking progressive people who know the future doesn’t just mean next week.
So, here’s to our new future,
To the future of the U.K. Wine
The countdown begins.........

Calling us SHEEP,, ONE VOTE PER PERSON.

We are allowed to do this, the most people EVER voted to do this.
This is the MOST democratic thing that has ever happened in this country in a decade, you can't face the fact people who had never ever voted in their life felt so strongly about this they made the effort.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Inkanta · 17/02/2018 16:49

@surferjet - yes, it does seem cool and hip to hate the U.K, to call the Leavers' little Englanders and to say we are nothing without the EU. On MN and on Facebook it is anyway.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 16:51

inkata

So pleased you said on facebook

So pleased i dont do that!!

DGRossetti · 17/02/2018 16:53

and to say we are nothing without the EU.

Who said that on (a) this thread, (b) any other EU thread on MN ? Or was that in your imagination ?

It's less than five years since the Scots were told they were nothing without the English though, if we are playing a really shit version of top trumps.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 16:54

Although i would love a link to those remain posters that have said they hate the uk and say we are nothing without the uk

As i don't remember seeing that

But i did try and stay off the threads for ages (and I don't think its unfair to say that i add nothing to any debate)

Inkanta · 17/02/2018 16:59

What do you're mean pleased you don't do Facebook?

I'm just a regular kind of Brit with a Facebook account. Is that bad? Smile

surferjet · 17/02/2018 17:00

Absolutely Inkanta - I’ve seen it on here time & time again.
They see being patriotic as being racist - wtf? They don’t want to be British they want to be European ( one of them actually said that ) like it’s something to be ashamed of to be British.
They make me sick tbh.

OP posts:
mummmy2017 · 17/02/2018 17:03

It's not that they say it; it's that they act like it , with their remoaning about their lost love the EU.
Romanticising all things EU, and how the UK can't and won't cope alone...
They will spend the rest of their life blaming everything on this vote.

Moussemoose · 17/02/2018 17:08

@surferjet please be careful with the hate accusations that people make you sick. If you ratchet up the rhetoric you end up with no where to go be the politics of race.

Lots of people, quite rightly, are very cautious of patriotism being used as a rallying cry. Patriotism and it's close ally nationalism are responsible for many atrocities.

Dial down the hate for all our sakesSmile

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 17:11

They see being patriotic as being racist - wtf? They don’t want to be British they want to be European ( one of them actually said that ) like it’s something to be ashamed of to be Brit

The some word would help no end

So one person said they felt european and thats now any person who voted remain on these boards...right o

TalkinPeace · 17/02/2018 17:12

The EU is not perfect.
But Britain will not magically become perfect by leaving it.
And I find the head in the sand it will all be fine attitude of the Brexit supporters utterly depressing.

The UK already trades with every country in the world, currently on pretty favourable terms.
That will go in the bin and have to be rebuilt from scratch.

The UK already has pretty good food safety, environmental and employment regulation.
That will go in the bin and have to be rebuilt from scratch.

But the pro Brexit people are allergic to forward planning.
They just slag off anybody who asks questions about it.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 17:13

inkata

Ive just never done it...partly because i know i would waste loads of time on it Blush

Partly the pressure of having to put stuff on and have people like it (im very needy)

And partly the pressure of having to 'like' my friends posts

I have some very needy friends Grin

surferjet · 17/02/2018 17:15

Lots of people, quite rightly, are very cautious of patriotism

But that only seems to apply to the English for some reason. Or are you cautious of anyone who loves their country?

OP posts:
TalkinPeace · 17/02/2018 17:24

surfer
What specific changes are you looking forward to in your day to day life after a hard Brexit?

LondonMum8 · 17/02/2018 17:30

LondonMum8 - who the fuck do you think you are?
Get off my thread if you don’t like what I post.

Well, well, well... another abusive nationalist... You just don't understand how MN works, do you? Let me clear that up for you: you start a thread and then any MN members are free to come in and comment. Simple as that. There is no thread ownership. Move to FB if you're looking for a nice little echo chamber.

I don’t have to thoughtfully engage with you

You don't have to but that's an automatic defeat in the relevant arguments (including on FOM and "global trade" if I recall correctly) and a testament to your lack of ability to thoughtfully dispute. I will leave further implications off to avoid being rude.

the remainers on this board have nothing good to say about this country, absolutely nothing.

Let's me double check that subject of this thread. Nope, it's not "Do you love this country, please list good things about it". It's about Brexit, which Remainers deem to be deeply harmful to the UK, our beloved country. If we didn't love it, we wouldn't give a rat's arse. Hope this makes sense.

You think we’re nothing without the EU.

Again, a gross misunderstanding. We just believe that the country will be significantly diminished outside the EU, and - being the patriots that we are - we don't want that to happen.

Moussemoose · 17/02/2018 17:32

But that only seems to apply to the English for some reason. Or are you cautious of anyone who loves their country

Do I really need to point out that some of the people who have used patriotism in Europe are
Hitler, Mussolini and Franco. They despised other Europeans and wanted their countries to be independent.

Dislike of This type of patriotism and the avoidance of hate speech be it "you hate us" or " we hate them" is the ideal behind the EU.

I loath it when people pull incorrect historical references out, but in this instance it is relevant. Please hold back on the " you hate us" language in the context of a debate on Europe it is massively inappropriate.

TalkinPeace · 17/02/2018 17:39

My non UK passport is of a country that is big on Patriotism.
Trump Trump.
Hence why I'm I'm more of an internationalist.

surferjet · 17/02/2018 17:42

Moussemoose
Then I suggest remainers get behind Brexit, stop sneering at leavers & stop talking this country down. You’re the ones causing the division.
Take a leaf out of your own book.

OP posts:
TalkinPeace · 17/02/2018 17:47

@surferjet
What exactly are we meant to be getting behind ?
Please specify the positive changes you expect to see in your daily life after its done.

LondonMum8 · 17/02/2018 17:48

Stupid question: would Farage get behind Remaining, if he lost the referendum by 1.5%?

surferjet · 17/02/2018 17:52

I probably won’t notice a single difference in my daily life once we’ve left. I doubt you will either.
Doesn’t mean I’m not glad we’re leaving though.
Because who knows what the EU would have forced on us in 10 years time - could have been anything?
I don’t know & neither do you.

OP posts:
AgnesSkinner · 17/02/2018 17:53

It's less than five years since the Scots were told they were nothing without the English though, if we are playing a really shit version of top trumps.

Actually, I do believe that it was only a few days ago that surfer posted the following on this very thread:

Scotland wouldn’t survive a week without us & they know it, but if they want independence then good luck to them. I wouldn’t be crying over it.

So much for “loving the UK”.

Moussemoose · 17/02/2018 17:53

And again dissent is the essence of democracy.

Getting behind and doing what you are told is the way to facism.

Have you heard of the tyranny of the majority.

Stop talking democracy and live it.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 17:55

agnes

Well that's lovely

AgnesSkinner · 17/02/2018 17:56

rufus you can probably guess where I’ve spent quite a large proportion of my life Wink
