Good morning Smile

Voting to leave the European Union was a monumental decision, and one that will change the direction of our Country for decades to come.
I see that as an exciting opportunity & something to be welcomed & celebrated.

So, if you see solutions instead of problems, if you see a better future for the citizens of U.K., free from the constraints of an organisation we had no control over, then this place is for you.
Of course not everything is going to run smoothly, maybe not for years, because leaving a union drowning in red tape was never going to be easy, but we are forward thinking progressive people who know the future doesn’t just mean next week.
So, here’s to our new future,
To the future of the U.K. Wine
The countdown begins.........

A year and a 1/2 to get a website up is pretty good going for the Leavers. I can imagine the headlines in the right wing press:

"Look we've got a website now, and we're going to have blue passports!"

Despite the fact they were black, not blue, this will be presented as the height of British ingenuity, demonstrating how soon Britannia will once again rule the waves. Meanwhile the 50 million who didn't vote to leave will look on with increasing despair and incredulity.

frumpety · 19/02/2018 06:22

I still don't understand the issue that leavers have with being members of the SM and CU ? Surely the most sensible option would be to continue in these , as this would mean the least amount of disruption to business / manufacturing , this could be re-visited at a later date , should we want , when the issues with technology and infrastructure had been addressed . Mummy , Surfer ?

frumpety · 19/02/2018 06:39

I think staying in the CU and SM or at the very least the CU , would fit best with Mummys retreat and regroup mantra about the UK .

InfiniteSheldon · 19/02/2018 07:22

briefingsforbrexit.com. Another vote for reading this if you genuinely want answers

frumpety · 19/02/2018 07:27

Had a quick look at that website Faith , sorry only quick but need to go to work soon , Graham Gudgin's article on economic impacts makes for interesting reading , wouldn't go so far as to allay my fears , but interesting none the less . I think the biggest question it throws up is the modelling he espouses , I note he is in favour of the modelling used for the impact assessment commissioned by the Mayor of London . This model shows a relatively small impact on the economy of London, under most scenarios . What impact would that model show for the rest of the UK ?

surferjet · 19/02/2018 07:35

Morning all Smile
Just had a quick scroll back.
Thank you faith for the link.

Regarding the question about our government throwing in the towel because it’s all too complicated & not worth the effort, if that happened they’d probably be some sort of revolution so bring it on.

Switzerland. That’s up to them, had no idea they’d had an immigration referendum but on googling, this was the 1st news item that came up.

The new immigration vote that could end free Swiss-EU migration

22/01/2018 BY LE NEWS

Last week the Swiss People’s Party (UDC/SVP) and Action for a neutral independent Switzerland (ASIN) began collecting the 100,000 signatures required to launch a new vote to limit immigration into Switzerland from EU and EFTA nations

Make of that what you will Grin

Anyway, this thread is nearly full so catch up soon no doubt!

Yep, let's make the UK like Switzerland: 10% tax!! (would need to sell the NHS and deport all the poor people to make it work but that's probably the Leave mafia's plan anyway).

user1471450935 · 19/02/2018 08:30

As a late convert to leave, and an early positive poster, been on holiday, lots to catch up on, about 36 pagesGrin
Can I say thanks to surfer for her continuing attempts to put postive side of brexit.
Thanks to faith for link and fellow leavers stay positive
I am still positive, even in the rain this morningSmile

Globetrotter100 · 19/02/2018 08:38

Hmmm, "revolutionary" talk. Given the top 2 collective demographic indicators of leave voters were 1) education and 2) age, I'm not exactly quaking in my boots. These factors are also what will determine the government's ability to execute any plan btw; it's shackled by a fundamental lack of strategic and operational capability (in addition to time and money). Bit like me saying I want to be awarded several michelin stars for my outstanding cookery in 2018...nice idea but I lack the skills, understanding how to develop them and don't have the capacity to put in the hard work required to establish a restaurant...so it's not going to happen this year. Shame! Grin

I do however see revolutionary themes emerging via groupings like OFOC who are mobilising the youth vote rather effectively. That combined with current multiple polls showing the "will of the people" has moved to an anti-brexit stance will reach a tipping point which can't be ignored for much longer.

It will certainly be interesting to see how thing develop...

Globetrotter100 · 19/02/2018 08:42

Loving the Sun, Express and Daily Mail links...

Maybe the 40 people in those articles can come up with some "solutions" and implement them within the required timeframe. I hope so!

LondonMum8 · 19/02/2018 08:51

@Globetrotter100 haha loved the Michelin analogy, spot on.

Ifailed · 19/02/2018 08:52

re: briefingsforbrexit.com. Graham Gudgin's article on the Irish border is a classic piece of leaver "everything will be all right" polemic.

He cites the US:Canada border as an example whereby drones, cameras & electronic clearing can police a border - none of which is in place but apparently can easily be achieved with "goodwill".

He dismisses fears of a return to violence if a border is imposed, and claims the DUPs success in the last election as proof that there is a little support for an united Island, citing a 2016 survey but completely ignoring the fact that it has dropped since the Good Friday Agreement and removal of the border!

He then goes on to state that a free trade agreement between the UK and EU is the answer, whilst mentioning WTO in passing and completely ignoring the consequences one under WTO rules - we'd have to give the same deal to the whole world!

If this is the best leavers can come up with after 18 months, then it really does bode ill for the future.

briefingsforbrexit.com/the-ethics-of-a-second-brexit-referendum-equality-trust-honesty/

This essay articulates why a second Ref would be damaging.

LondonMum8 · 19/02/2018 08:56

@Ifailed The level of incompetence is severe, but all is not lost yet, as they can still put @surferjet or @mummy2017 in charge :D

LondonMum8 · 19/02/2018 08:58

@FaithHopeCharityDesperation let's stick to the common sense rule: links to reputable sources only.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/02/2018 09:03

How is it not reputable?

Here's his bio - he seems pretty reputable to me.

www.bsg.ox.ac.uk/people/tom-simpson

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/02/2018 09:07

I also noted that the NI section on briefings for Brexit peddled the same debunked nonsense as leavers on here do. The casual dismissal of a return to violence is utterly frightening

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/02/2018 09:08

These are the contributors to the site (again, all seem pretty reputable):

briefingsforbrexit.com/about-us/

And here's their raison d'etre (seems pretty reasonable to me):

briefingsforbrexit.com/our-mission/

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 19/02/2018 09:11

I also noted that the NI section on briefings for Brexit peddled the same debunked nonsense as leavers on here do. The casual dismissal of a return to violence is utterly frightening

So contact them then.
Tell them.

They actively encourage critique as the don't want groupthink.

Or is it just easier to bellyache on a parenting website?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 19/02/2018 09:14

Not my job faith. It was pointed out prior to the referendum, project fear wasn’t it? It’s being pointed out by remain MP’s now but will of the people must march on. This ones all yours. Enjoy. Wine

Ifailed · 19/02/2018 09:20

it gets worse. briefingsforbrexit.com/how-brexit-can-help-us-tackle-disadvantage/
In this one Tom Simpson bemoans the lack of investment in vocational training in the UK. The answer is to train up prisoners (it's the only one he cites). Apparently brexit is the answer, he doesn't say how, it just is.

Of course Government could have addressed this a long time ago, being a member of the EU has not prevented this - in fact it presents a clear example off how it should be done, Germany.

Another piss-poor piece of work, he's just recycled an essay on the lack of vocational training in the UK and topped and tailed it with brexit - 1/20 See Me.

surferjet · 19/02/2018 09:24
