Good morning Smile

Voting to leave the European Union was a monumental decision, and one that will change the direction of our Country for decades to come.
I see that as an exciting opportunity & something to be welcomed & celebrated.

So, if you see solutions instead of problems, if you see a better future for the citizens of U.K., free from the constraints of an organisation we had no control over, then this place is for you.
Of course not everything is going to run smoothly, maybe not for years, because leaving a union drowning in red tape was never going to be easy, but we are forward thinking progressive people who know the future doesn’t just mean next week.
So, here’s to our new future,
To the future of the U.K. Wine
The countdown begins.........

But then the smug leavers will start bleating on about how we are world-beaters and everyone is just queuing up to trade with us, because they read it in the Daily Mail.

I don't get what these people think other nations need from the UK, that they can't get from the EU/somewhere else?

Why bother with the hassle of a new trade agreement? What do we have for export that's so unique?

LondonMum8 · 17/02/2018 15:15

What do we have for export that's so unique?

Financial services. Only really works in the immediate region though. The Americas have New York, Asia - HK, Singapore, Shanghai.

surferjet · 17/02/2018 15:24

Why do remainers hate the U.K. so much.
Such a mystery.

OP posts:
TheyBuiltThePyramids · 17/02/2018 15:25

And any components that we buy that fall outside the EU rules might therefore be cheaper, but we would be then unable to sell the final product in the EU.

mummmy2017 · 17/02/2018 15:31

Wonder what news tomorrow will bring.

LondonMum8 · 17/02/2018 15:34

Why do remainers hate the U.K. so much.
Such a mystery.

Why does @surferjet carries on with idiotic comments like that instead of at least trying to thoughtfully engage in the debate?

Please don't confuse being critical of Brexit with hate for the UK. If Remainers hated the UK they would cheer or at least ignore Brexit!

Peregrina · 17/02/2018 15:40

Is hating the mess the Tories have made hating the UK? I didn't know that UK=Tory Party. I think I would be prepared to grant S E England = Tory Party.

surferjet · 17/02/2018 15:47

You do hate the UK.
You think we’re nothing without the EU.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

& I don’t have to thoughtfully engage with you LondonMum8 - who the fuck do you think you are?
Get off my thread if you don’t like what I post.

I certainly don't hate the UK. Of course we're not nothing without the EU. But we have been a member for a long time and so many elements of our lives are totally embedded in that relationship. I would feel better if someone had a plan, or a clue what they were doing. No-one can answer the questions here about trade and where the nurses will come from, for example, nor has the slightest clue about the NI border.

I too used to work in the Port of Dover and ironically lost my job in 1992. My MP is Charlie Elphicke who is a staunch brexiteer. He thinks Brexit will be great for Dover. In fact he probably has a point - but only if the necessary elements are in place. And no-one has even started work on these yet.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 15:57

Im not sure who the you are

surferjet · 17/02/2018 16:03

Protest all you like, but you do hate the U.K.
I’m not saying the entire 48% who voted remain are up the EU’s arse, but the remainers on this board have nothing good to say about this country, absolutely nothing.
Why are you living here?

OP posts:
TheyBuiltThePyramids · 17/02/2018 16:07

That is such a stupid statement. I love the UK. I do think though the current problems facing the UK are not caused by the EU and leaving will not improve things one little bit.

Peregrina · 17/02/2018 16:16

I am not quite sure why wanting to see the NHS properly staffed is hating the UK. Or not wanting to see the Good Friday Agreement put at risk - unless of course, you are one of those people who didn't even realise that NI is part of the UK, so don't know why it's an issue.

Moussemoose · 17/02/2018 16:23

We want to remain because we love the U.K. and it's people. We want the U.K. to be prosperous, safe and strong. We also want to remain because we love Europe too. We want Europe to be economically prosperous and to be secure and safe.

Love isn't restricted to one country it's like children, you can love more than one.

mummmy2017 · 17/02/2018 16:23

@surferjet

Your right the way a few MN Remainers are so backward looking and unwilling to see they need to accept the way this is going does carry an element of hate, for being on the wrong side of progress.
I don't understand why you can't see why we know nothing, no one does, because right now nothing has been decided for certain, which means any plans would be unusable as so many variables are in play.
Leave date doesn't mean the lights are going to get turned off, but you sure act like that is what will happen.

DGRossetti · 17/02/2018 16:25

How long before "traitors" finds it's way into the thread (can't really characterise it as a debate) ?

The thing with discussions by and for leavers is they are totally bereft of any concrete solutions to Brexit (like this one). Bearing in mind all we have to show for Brexit is speeches, more speeches and speeches again, and a slight hiccup in the price of vellum.

mummmy2017 · 17/02/2018 16:28

Maybe with the NHS they will see just how much money and time is tied up by older patients who don't need to be in a bed, but do need somewhere to recover, the fact this will only increase over time should make them start planing for it, less expense for the NHS,

LaurieMarlow · 17/02/2018 16:32

Saying that remainers 'hate' the uk is such ridiculous nonsense I don't even know where to start.

Voting remain was in many ways an act of love. Wanting the country to stay safe and strong within a supportive community. Rather than gambling its future in a potentially kamikaze move (exactly how I see hard brexit).

The difference is that remainders seem to have a greater grasp of the complex, inter related world we now live in. They also have a realistic assessment of the UKs position/power in the world outside of the eu.

Moussemoose · 17/02/2018 16:42

Throwing hate around is very close to the politics of demagoguery. Extremists hate the opposition. Appealing to hate and using it to criticise others is a scary tactic best avoided.

As DGRossetti said terms like traitors will be used. We are at the top of a very slippery slope. Those of you using this term pause and consider the history of Europe.

TalkinPeace · 17/02/2018 16:43

I hate the UK so much that I paid thousands of pounds to get my UK passport and had to swear allegiance to the Queen.
Have you ever done that ?

What I hate is the fact that Brexit will do massive damage to the UK economy.
The guys at the top do no give a shit about the 52% - they are in it for their own wealth.
And the sheep in the 52% are not making sure that the decision makers act in the best interests of the country.
Therefore it falls to the 48% to try to limit the damage.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 16:45

Im a remainer

Ive not had a pop at MY country

I have certainly had a pop at the government...but that is my democratic right as much as some people on this board might want to take it away from me

But anyway...i do find it a bit hard to get wound up about what people say on mumsnet

Its taken me a few years of posting to get to that position, to be completely honestly

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 16:46

Shit ive done it again

Im not a remainer

Im someone who voted remain

Thats better

Peregrina · 17/02/2018 16:46

So if we had better social care for the elderly, the NHS would be better able to cope. Yes. What plans are being made now - apart from adding and Social Care to the name of the Department of Health?

DGRossetti · 17/02/2018 16:46

Throwing hate around is very close to the politics of demagoguery.

I'd sway it is the politics of demagoguery.

Worth noting that no great respected statesman ever made a speech about hating their own people. Nor has any great statesmen ever made a speech suggesting their own people hated them. Plenty of idiots and dictators have though.

DGRossetti · 17/02/2018 16:46

Blue passports ?
