Good morning Smile

Voting to leave the European Union was a monumental decision, and one that will change the direction of our Country for decades to come.
I see that as an exciting opportunity & something to be welcomed & celebrated.

So, if you see solutions instead of problems, if you see a better future for the citizens of U.K., free from the constraints of an organisation we had no control over, then this place is for you.
Of course not everything is going to run smoothly, maybe not for years, because leaving a union drowning in red tape was never going to be easy, but we are forward thinking progressive people who know the future doesn’t just mean next week.
So, here’s to our new future,
To the future of the U.K. Wine
The countdown begins.........

Fair play gardengeek, that can't be easy to admit on here.

What in particular is making you pessimistic?

Peregrina · 14/02/2018 20:40

What were you hoping for gardengeek?

I have every sympathy for those Leavers who really did hope that the NHS would get more money as a result. I'd feel a slight bit less pessimistic if the people charged with making Brexit happen weren't so utterly clueless and started to realistically look at the problems, instead of keeping their fingers crossed and hoping they will go away. Given that it took Greenland with one industry and a population the size of a small city, 3 years to work through their leaving process, an admission that it can't be done in an afternoon, a year or whatever would be a good start.

frumpety · 14/02/2018 20:40

Did anyone else have the misfortune to listen to the man on R2 at lunchtime being interviewed by Vanessa , standing in for Jeremy Vine ? He was supposed to be selling the positives of Brexit to remainers , I had to switch the radio off , it was so dire , he just kept whittering on about us being Great Britain and how we won two world wars , how we are going to be joining a EU army , sovereignty . Oh and apparently remainers hate is contagious .
Not one actual real beneficial to ordinary people living in the UK positive could he summon up , during his shouty diatribe , not one Hmm

TalkinPeace · 14/02/2018 20:47

I joined this thread hoping that some of the Brexit supporters would list the positives of leaving

but sadly they do not seem to be able to answer even the most basic question
I do not ask about NI because it is so deadlocked even now that Brexit is just another angle
eg : Customs clearance in Kent
eg : the supply of Nurses
they just accuse me of being negative
but they do not give me the positive alternative
Sad

There are probably only a handful of Brexiteers on the site as a whole.

And even if there are more, I would be delighted for them to sincerely lay out the positives. So far nothing, only wittering idiots.

Come on Brexiteers convince people! Well in fairness that's a tough call when the Government can't do it either.

TalkinPeace · 14/02/2018 20:55

I very, very much doubt that
after all 17m people voted for it

I suspect that there are very few who have a grasp of the issues who are willing to argue the toss though

I heard Boris made a speech today but I cant bare to listen to it

I'll summarise:-

Rah, rah, rah, Great Nation,

Rah, rah, rah, Toblerone,

Rah, rah, rah, TMs Lancaster House speech

Rah rah rah, carrots

Rah, rah rah, join together

Rah, rah, rah, dirty old men in Thailand

That was it.

Nothing about how be actually lave.

virtualreality · 14/02/2018 21:03

TalkinPeace,

If you break down the demographic, I'd say most people here are parents and are concerned for their kids futures, and their own after exiting. Might not be the same as College goers, young free and single etc. I dunno, just a wild guess. We all worry for our kids futures surely and this issue is just adding to the terror of the future for them, and us.

I have yet to see a cogent argument for Brexit from anyone, and I am honestly open to a reasoned statement, but nothing.

I don't see how anyone could be scared off the thread. Are they not capable of putting their point of view across, or do they not have any view worthy of scrutiny?

If Brexit is so wonderful why are Remainers making all the running.

TalkinPeace · 14/02/2018 21:07

GardenGeek
Also the government cant discuss the options because the EU bans us making trade talks so how can they state anything as fact
But the options can be discussed .....
honesty about the need to get an agreement with the EU (over 50% of our trade)
and to rapidly replace the other 53 agreements we will lose (nearly 40% more of our trade)
would be useful.
Pretending that WTO rules are an option is just disingenuous (as only Cuba and Venezuela currently solely use them)
so there has to be compromise
but Davis / Gove / Rees-Mogg / Johnston seem unwilling to compromise at all

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 14/02/2018 21:37

- we've already scared off several on this thread

I'd go for 'bored' rather than 'scared' tbh.

virtualreality · 14/02/2018 21:40

If people are bored why bother posting at all? Just don't engage surely?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 14/02/2018 21:41

We all worry for our kids futures surely and this issue is just adding to the terror of the future for them, and us.

Terror?

Really?!

I've two teenagers who are not 'terrified' about the future (wrt Brexit) - pretty standard attitude amongst all the parents & teenagers I know tbh.

If people's kids are 'terrified' about Brexit, then I'd be blaming the parents for that, as it must be coming from them.

TalkinPeace · 14/02/2018 21:42

FAithHope
So, despite the title of the thread you do not in fact have any tangible positives to say about Brexit ?

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 14/02/2018 21:47

If people are bored why bother posting at all? Just don't engage surely?

Would have been happy to engage with fellow leavers as was the premise for this thread - but as per, it was hijacked by the same old hysterical whiners, banging on & demanding ANSWERS!!

Usual yawn-fest of bilge.

There's a hard core of remainer posters on MN who have made their feelings towards Brexiters clear - again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again across many, many threads - and yet they cannot seem to stop posting the same monotonous crap day in & day out & 'innocently' wondering 'why?!' we don't/won't engage with them.

Peregrina · 14/02/2018 21:48

But why are you bored? You won, you should be brimming with ideas. E.g. Start with what you want for the NHS. Make concrete proposals as to how it can be improved. OK we are just ordinary bods on an internet forum but get active in politics or campaign groups to improve local services.... There is absolutely no need to be bored about that.

My own feelings with the NHS are that they really need to sort out its administration. The medical/nursing/midwifery staff that my family have been involved with over the past couple of years have almost unfailingly gone beyond the call of duty. Not so the admin - a friend was told she didn't need another appointment, so she and the nurse went to the desk to cancel. A few days later a letter comes, 'your appointment has been cancelled, we have made another'. Ditto with my husband - 4 letters in one post two offering appointments and two cancelling them. So when was his appointment - he had to phone to find out. I could go on listing stories like that. At one time hospitals had their own nursing banks - I believe that's been privatised. Again it all comes down to policies issuing from Westminster but if we don't protest, nothing will improve.

TalkinPeace · 14/02/2018 21:51

Faithhope
Do you not want to know how Brexit will affect your children then?
Are you not asking questions?
Are you not interested in how it will pan out?

Or do you implicitly trust the expertise of David Davis ?

Peregrina · 14/02/2018 21:58

If FaithHope is typical and the whole topic is boring to Brexiteers, let's just cancel it, and get on with spending time and effort sorting out the real problems facing the country.

Irish PM Leo Varadker is running rings around all this.

Fair dues to him, he got in there first and laid it on the line about the border and the GFA. He is representing NI and ROI really well now. I like his style.

The GFA agreement is an International Treaty and is subsumed into the UK constitution now. Tearing up one agreement (with EU) does not mean all agreements are gone.

The GFA was not part of the referendum on leaving, big faux pas, but no one cared a whit about NI anyway.

British Government is floundering now. And the DUP put the scuppers on the Assembly today too. Timing is everything.

AgnesSkinner · 14/02/2018 22:11

Live animal exports - no, at the moment you can’t ban them because they come under the freedom of movement of goods, apparently Hmm

Virtualreality - I'm one of the withering idiots!

One of the leavers who up thread explained many my views and solutions for border controls, the NHS, FOM etc. etc.
But guess what no one took a blind bit of notice and after a few put downs you have all reverted to asking the same questions and have completely ignored what I or any other leaver ever say.

I have come to the conclusion that none of you actually want to listen to what we might have to say. All you want to do is have a rant at everything and jump on any thing you can to belittle us!

Enjoy.
