I have been waiting for two days patiently. Can't wait anymore.
Kindly bring it back Surfer.
No matter what we discuss or don't discuss there, this discussion must keep going.

Some of us remember Morecambe Bay.

And it is silly - and contrary to all the evidence - to suggest that the "EU" is somehow trying to "hide" the issue of modern slavery.

In many ways the real problem is a political narrative that links exploitation, forced labour and slavery with immigration status, as the Immigration Act 2016 does - turning everyone into a policeman and making it far harder for undocumented workers to come forward and report abuse.

Figmentofmyimagination · 30/08/2017 13:27

Clearly the business model is based on low wage disposable people, not the commodity

What is needed is national collective bargaining for different sectors, and for the Posted Workers Directive to be enforced so that employers are not permitted to pay below the collective rate for the job, whoever is doing the job.

And you need adequately funded enforcement - there is no point moaning about forced labour if e.g. the Gangmasters Licensing Authority and the HSE have had their enforcement budgets slashed year on year since 2011 and the "anti-slavery commissioner" is a talking shop. These issues are always a national government policy choice.

It's very quiet in here. Maybe they've worn themselves out celebrating as it's going so well.
Or else they're collecting the harvest.

Peregrina · 06/09/2017 18:22

This isn't a proper Brexit Arms thread - but they got bored and wouldn't start a proper one. This is surprising not - they should be rolling their sleeves up, getting things done, and reporting back to us.

twofingerstoEverything · 06/09/2017 19:56

Maybe they don't have time to post. Too busy doing their washing, perhaps?
Grin

WifeofDarth · 06/09/2017 20:54

I'd been wondering the same thing ....

TheElementsSong · 07/09/2017 09:07

They've been busy producing the UK's position papers full of well-researched details, haven't they?

SunSeptember · 10/09/2017 09:16

Wonder if anyone else has misfortune to be seeing the henious Blair showing his usual blindness on Andrew marr. Aarghhhh having second thoughts!! Anyone blood pressure rising?

SunSeptember · 10/09/2017 09:18

Caroline, open Borders have been a gift to those in crime. No one cares about that though when they only care about their own benefits

howabout · 10/09/2017 09:48

I am coming to the conclusion Blair is in fact a Leave supporter. Grin

Don't know who the heck he is! Who are all these leavers going to be voting remain in this imaginary referendum he thinks we should have? Don't know anyone who has changed their mind, the other thread shows that to be true, here anyway.
Why on earth would the EU entertain us if we suddenly thought that we had changed our minds in 12 months or so when we know the deal we would get. If we aren't a laughing stock now - according to the remainers we are- we certainly would be then.

Fresh8008 · 11/09/2017 19:38

Good news is that they are voting to repeal the 1972 communities act tonight. Woo Hoo crack open the bubbly its all going to happen.

Fresh8008 · 11/09/2017 19:53

Actually I should have said start repealing it lol

Carolinesbeanies · 12/09/2017 01:58

WineWine Cheers all, another step this evening, despite the unrelenting hot air on here. Peregrina, some of us have been busy writing to our MPs, with great effect it appears Smile Chin Chin guys we're steering this humongous ship in the right direction.
Interesting to see how Macrons getting on calling his people lazy. Shock
This EU plot to attack voters, just didnt work pre referendum, doesnt work post ref, and now theyre trying the tactics in Europhile France. Will no one ever learn.

Meanwhile, my current favourite eastern bloc state, Estonia, is taking on Uber. You go guys!

First the e-residency, now this. A population just slightly bigger than Birmingham, and theyre making huge waves, taking on the EU from within. Love em.

Peregrina · 12/09/2017 08:34

Not sure why Carolinesbeanies wishes to inform me that she writes to her MP. I haven't mentioned that at all on this thread. I hope she's got a better MP than my current MPs lazy predecessor - who 'answered' about 1 in six letters, rehashed Theresa May's soundbites; her presence in the constituency amounted to appearing for photo shoots. In short, she made it clear that climbing the ministerial ladder was more important than representing her constituents. As constituents we returned the compliment and told her we didn't care about being represented by her either and we'd give someone else ago.

Yep, good to see the Estonians take on an American firm. Why doesn't the UK Govt bother?

Estonia taking on the EU from within? I thought that was, like, impossible? Because it's an undemocratic dictatorship or something? Confused

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 12/09/2017 20:05

Good news re the Brexit bill last night - Dennis Skinner & Frank Field doing the right thing as ever.

bewoke · 14/09/2017 06:20

So many traitors and collaborators, who knowingly or not have just enabled racist corrupt May to conduct a coup.

The morally enfeebled are always the most dangerous.

woman11017 · 14/09/2017 07:02

Illustrated image of what 'brexit' means.

Where is the next Brexit Arms thread?
Carolinesbeanies · 15/09/2017 23:26

We dont expect anything less woman11107. Trust you picked up on this yesterday? The bullying twisted europhile alt left, think nothing of picking on kids if they dont get their way with the grown ups.

Its Junker, eu dictatorship propoganda at its best. Anyone ask the citizens how they feel? Heavens, of course not. Wouldnt want the people of europe deciding how theyre governed.

woman11017 · 16/09/2017 07:28

We dont expect anything less than a fascist coup?

Carolinesbeanies · 16/09/2017 10:23

Youre calling the parliamentary vote a facist coup now? LOL. Try a touch of pragmatism woman11017, the parliamentary vote pretty much reflected the brexit vote. Irrespective of who and what, it was absolutely the right result that the peoples demanded. All of them. Including you. Thats why the opposition got 290 votes.

Had to laugh at the BBC reporting concerns that ministers may gain too much power. Yep, no shit sherlock, its called sovereignty, and when we get it back woman, we're all free to vote for UK policies for UK citizens. Thats the time to vote out May. When you have the power of a free vote, not a vote thats restricted by third party regulations from an unelected foreign institute.

Its a simple concept but one that irritates the f** out of the utterly undemocratic EU totalitarian state.

Peregrina · 16/09/2017 11:42

You don't think trying trying to make a law to bypass Parliament is some sort of coup? Suppose a party not to your taste got in and immediately started governing by ministerial decree?

KilgoreTroutV · 16/09/2017 14:58

Peregrina
Here's how you know it's not a coup. If you're not happy with the current British PM you have every right to stand against her (or him - depending on what happens between now and then) in her / his constituency. You have every opportunity to oust a sitting UK PM on a "Return to the EU" ticket.

As an ordinary citizen voter I have ZERO opportunity to oust Junkers.
