I am no RedToothBrush, so I'm not going to try to emulate her exception OP style.

Here, though, in the interests of carrying on our conversations about WTF is going on with Brexit and the weird political world we find ourselves in right now, is a sort of continuation thread

(Hurry back Red, we need you!)

Can I start with.....I just despair.....

I've emailed an arch leaver I know....nice man, hasn't answered one question.

OlennasWimple · 25/07/2017 21:24

Phew - you found the thread!

But that article is beyond depressing - did DD and the others really think that Brexit would be straightforward?

pointythings · 25/07/2017 21:31

Thanks, Olenna. I hardly dare break out the Placemat King.

There have been a lot of depressing articles in the Independent. There also seems to be a reverse correlation between bad news about Brexit and noise in the Brexit Arms...

LurkingHusband · 25/07/2017 21:33

.

missmoon · 25/07/2017 21:33

Thank you! Olennas I need this thread to keep me sane... I've been arguing with Labour friends all day. All trying to defend the Labour hard Brexit position (sigh).

Olennas Wine thank you for our new home. Like a 2Star B&B after a long drive on a rainy night, I couldn't be more grateful for these deeply depressing, grubby, yet strangely comforting threads.

OlennasWimple · 25/07/2017 21:44

Look Divided, I know my efforts are far inferior to Red's 5 Star offers, but "2 Star B&B"?! Shock

Phew. Thanks Oleanna.

OlennasWimple · 25/07/2017 21:46

Carrying on the food prices conversation from the last thread, I'm not currently somewhere that is likely to be being directly affected by Brexit, and food prices are steadily creeping up here too.

So the good news is that perhaps what you are seeing in the shops isn't because of Brexit. The bad news is that the inevitable food price hike as a result of Brexit probably hasn't hit yet...

BestIsWest · 25/07/2017 21:46

Well done. Marking to lurk.

Didn't Red say she was going on holiday?

DividedKingdom · 25/07/2017 21:49

Hahaha trust me, many of Red's threads have had me feeling like I've woken up in a gutter of horrors and I've still been grateful for them Grin

squoosh · 25/07/2017 21:56

Thanks Olenna. A few pictures on the wall and this place will feel just like home!

squoosh · 25/07/2017 21:59

I've been arguing with Labour friends all day. All trying to defend the Labour hard Brexit position (sigh).

It's all part of a long game apparently. A game so loooooong is has no end. Or else it's all part of 'I must go along with whatever Jeremy says' strategy.

Owen Jones is a prime example of that. Apparently he's cool with Brexit now.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 25/07/2017 22:09

The conclusion I've come to is Owen Jones is a chameleon and a twat.

Lico · 25/07/2017 22:17

Thanks Olennas.

Placemat king.
Thanks Olennas.

I don't do Twitter, but here I think Jo Maugham is asking people to pledge that they won't vote Labour in 2022 if they deliver Hard Brexit.

Thanks Oleanna.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/labour-could-change-brexit-stance-10871230

Labour could CHANGE its Brexit stance if public mood shifts says member of Jeremy Corbyn's top team.

Christ, will someone start speaking out and oppose the Tories here?

I don't vote Labour where I live so feel strangely without any means of protest against Labour Brexit.

twofingerstoEverything · 25/07/2017 22:43

placemat.

prettybird · 25/07/2017 22:46

Thanks Olenna Flowers

I'd posted the Steve Bullock Independent article towards the end of the last thread, saying it wasn't much that we hadn't already predicted discussed ad nauseum on the Westministenders threads but that our politicians are continuing to be in denial about how difficult, complex and complicated the issues are because they are too, well, difficult, complex and complicated for them to get their minds around and refuse to listen to experts Confused

Place matted Grin

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 25/07/2017 22:56

Thanks for the lovely new thread Oleanna

I read that Owen Jones article where he now supports Brexit. Whole bloody article and all he really seemed to want to say was "It's the will of the people"
The idea that a very large proportion of "the people" might change their mind once more and more shit hits the fan doesn't seem to factor into his musings.

prettybird · 26/07/2017 00:11

Yet another issue that has been repeatedly highlighted on these threads: gridlock at the ports, the knock-on effects and the lack of any apparent urgency in dealing with it

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jul/25/tory-mps-call-for-action-to-avert-post-brexit-ports-gridlock

I particularly liked this quote from the president of the region that includes Calais: "The time for collective stupefaction must end,” [my bold] Bertrand writes, claiming that his region of France and the Irish Republic would also be hit if the ports are not ready.

whatwouldrondo · 26/07/2017 00:30

So the European Research Group just got round to recognising the problems Brexit will cause on our borders so they present a plan that has no hope of actually being feasible in time, widening motorways, expanding system etc etc etc and they think their backs are covered.......
