The DUP are demanding £2 billion for NI - extra £1,100 bribe per person in NI
Worse: the Barnett formula would translate £2BN to NI as £65-70BN across the UK

Impossible, surely, even for May's desperate attempts to cling to power

As part of this spat, the DUP refused to pick up the phone for 36 hours Hmm

BigChocFrenzy · 22/06/2017 01:18

I remember the unionists, which were then the UUP, supported Labour during 1974-1979 hung / close govt and they obtained at least one important concession:

The number of NI seats was increased from 12 to 17

Increased influence for unionists ever since. Nice earners for the extra 5 MPs too.

I caught a bit of someone on R4 this morning saying the Barnet formula only worked one way, in that if England gets more the smaller counties get more, but if NI gets more that doesn't mean everyone else does. Also that the Barnet formula is pretty much optional and governments choose to ignore it quite often. If this is the case (perhaps someone on here can clarify) then I think the Barnet formula issue is a bit of a red herring. The GFA and concerns of her moderate MPs seem a much bigger problem.

pointythings · 22/06/2017 07:36

Get well, sostenueto.

So today we might get to find out about the 'generous offer' the UK are going to make re EU citizens. Not holding my breath.

HashiAsLarry · 22/06/2017 07:52

Btw you remember the debate we had on here about Diane Abbott and her car crash interview and I said the abuse was mostly sexist/racist and I said Johnson wasn't much better as a politician ...
Yep, was totally with you there. But apparently bojo is amusing and endearing. Not a dangerous loon. And of course Abbott is nothing more than a liability.
Talking of Abbott, she was on BBC breakfast a couple of days ago looking much better and seeming a lot more coherent, which is good.
What's bojo's excuse? Oh, he doesn't need one Hmm

Get well soon sos

BoJo is an upper class, rich, public school prat of the old school sort who bluster through with endless reserves of self confidence and entitlement. Unfortunately the British people have been programmed over hundreds of years of aristocratic rule to see this as a sure sign of superiority despite all evidence pointing to the fact he is an idiot.

citroenpresse · 22/06/2017 08:03

The very wonderful Professor Curtice (exit poll) was asked in a Guardian article about Boris and said whatever his failings as a minister, he'd be happy to do a leader's debate every week. Surely too many enemies now. Get well soon sos.

Well this was predictable. Shortage of EU farm workers starting:

Workplace gender quotas weed out incompetent men and make businesses more efficient, study finds

The research counters one of the key arguments often put forward against the introduction of minimum quotas to promote equality: that such targets are unmeritocratic

I hope this is shared with Philip Davis.
