Corbyn still hanging in there

I actually quite admire that. Hanging tough. I think it shows a sharp contrast to Cameron who can't get out of things soon enough.

Could Corbyn actually be the next PM?

OP posts:
PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/07/2016 21:16

He is PM material and would be able to gets the changes and reforms needed for the UK with enough support.

What are his policies?

He talks in soundbites and on Monday won't even vote with the policy of the party he is leading.

He hasn't as far as I'm aware even had the good grace yet to publically congratulate Theresa May which other parties have.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 21:21

Labour failed at the last local elections it's expected that opposition gain seats and they usually do apart from a few occasions

Labour should have been far ahead in the polls after all the trashing of the country the Tories have done

Sadiq Khan kept his distance from Corbyn he knew he is not a vote winner so thankfully he won

merrymouse · 12/07/2016 21:23

He is supposed to want to be PM. If he can't handle his own MPs how on earth is he going to run a country?

colouringinagain · 12/07/2016 21:26

He doesn't seem to want to be leader of the main opposition party of this country, just a movement to challenge the government.
Soooo frustrated about the lack of opposition, Labour should have been clearing up over this last fortnight.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 21:27

I am not sure his ambition is to be PM I think his ambition is to split the Labour Party

And it is something he is succeeding at

fryingtoday · 12/07/2016 21:27

So anyone who does not want JC leading needs to register as a supporter (£3) and vote. And vice versa ... If JC wins the Labour Party will split. Maybe it needs to?

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 21:56

It's £25 now for supporters to vote, & only in a 2-day window?

Members have to have joined more than 6 months ago, & the 130,000 who have joined recently can't also become £25 supporters.

They've all gone mad Shock

BakewellSliceAgain · 12/07/2016 21:59

The T and C s are worse than Ryanair!

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 21:59

piglet

Corbyn policies

You're welcome

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 22:02

he talks in soundbites

Oh come on! That's one thing he absolutely doesn't do! He listens to questions, he thinks about them, & he gives proper considered answers. It's one of the reasons the MSM find him so "unelectable" Hmm

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 22:24

Well he is not listening to his own MP's and he won't talk to them his door is firmly shut

And he wouldn't engage in any debates on the referendum

yet quite happily gives speeches at rallies that are anti Israel and pro IRA

lalalonglegs · 12/07/2016 22:25

Thank you for linking, LowDudgeon - how many of these has he got the PLP to support (the article was published before he won the 2015 leadership contest) and is there any information on how he would fund them? To me, they sound no more realistic than Leave's promises of endless summer and unicorns before the referendum.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/07/2016 22:30

Well his idea on 'Trident' (as in link) is against his own party policy so not exactly listening is he.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/07/2016 22:31

And he wouldn't engage in any debates on the referendum

He even went on holiday during the main part of campaigning.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 22:33

Oh that is why he was so quiet

Ffs how can that be justified by his supporters but you know they will

GlassCircles · 12/07/2016 22:40

Tonight's gleeful display was the first time I've seen him look anything other than sulky and utterly miserable when confronted by the press. It's not inspiring or the least bit statesmanlike, whatever you think of his politics.

lalalonglegs · 12/07/2016 22:42

I almost wish he did speak in soundbites, instead he speaks in this strangely unengaged way and seems completely unable to give a convincing, off-the-cuff answer. I was absolutely appalled at the Jo Cox memorial when, after David Cameron had given a short speech about her and mentioned when he had first met her and how much he admired her personally, Jeremy Corbyn gave the very real impression that he had never even met her.

I bring up this incident because it doesn't seem to be a one-off but seems to typify how unpassionate he is, even at a time of national shock - I keep reading that he is fantastic with the grassroots and how great he is at connecting with "ordinary people" but I just don't see it. He seems entirely unconvincing and only really comfortable when speaking to people who are entirely onside.

Does anyone know what the timetable for the leadership contest is likely to be?

GlassCircles · 12/07/2016 22:43

And it's not to do with the press specifically, it's to do with how he copes with confrontational situations - something which is part and parcel of any leader's job.

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 22:58

There's a lot of sense in this

Labour supporters voted 63% for Remain. SNP supporters voted 64% for Remain. Was Sturgeon's campaigning inadequate?

lalalonglegs · 12/07/2016 23:11

But Sturgeon campaigned, Corbyn didn't. Ten events in 12 weeks, was it? If Labour voters were persuaded to vote the way that the Labour Party wanted them to, it was despite not because of Corbyn's participation.

ImGoingToTeabagYourDrumKitDale · 12/07/2016 23:18

Corbyn is an absolute farce! If the Labour party want any credibility he needs to go.

However his supporters who think the UK can fund some utopia of peace and endless wealth of financial support will continue to back him.

As a non Labour voter I think strategically, fantastic let him stay, but then for the Labour heartlands I think for God's sake man leave!

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 23:42

All you anti-Corbynites - who is your best alternative, guaranteed to win a GE, please?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/07/2016 23:50

All you anti-Corbynites - who is your best alternative, guaranteed to win a GE, please?

Owen Smith, Dan Jarvis, Kier Starmer for starters.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 23:51

Andy Burnham

But he said he would never run again and plans to run for mayor of Manchester

Shame he would appeal to many people and I beleive voters would return to the party

And David Millaband but I think that is highly unlikely

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 23:53

I really like Kier Starmer but maybe too early for him

Hasn't Dan Jarvis ruled himself out
