Corbyn still hanging in there

I actually quite admire that. Hanging tough. I think it shows a sharp contrast to Cameron who can't get out of things soon enough.

Could Corbyn actually be the next PM?

He won by receiving 250,000 votes. Even if the 100,000 people that have supposedly signed up to the labour party recently all voted for him (and they won't) this number of people will make very little impact in a general election.

How do you think a man who called Hamas and Hezbollah friends and his support of the IRA will ever become PM. The press would drag everything up during a GE campaign and rightly so.

He is splitting the Labour Party that I now believe is his intention

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 09/07/2016 15:31

I'm rejoining to vote against him too I want to save the party and for labour to have the chance of winning an election

ThisPanCanCan · 09/07/2016 15:43

Another who has re-joined the Labour Party, and will be attending at local meetings. The sorry mess since Brexit stimulated this and I will not be voting for JC if and when the opportunity arises. I'm not that keen on AE tbh but to stick with JC means we will be a protest group not a govt. for sure.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 09/07/2016 15:48

Angela Eagle has announced she has is going to launch her challange for leadership on Monday

I hope others will follow

megletthesecond · 09/07/2016 15:50

I'm now treating 2020 as a write off and hoping they'll focus on 2025. JC was always going to be a duff leader.

ThisPanCanCan · 09/07/2016 15:53

I'm not so sure about 2020 write off. A LOT can happen, and an electable Labour leader will have more than a good chance esp if AL is voted as Tory leader. I think much depends on what happens in Scotland, where the vote was taken for granted and we were wiped out by SNP almost. Obv the challenge is even more difficult as so many Scots do not want to leave Europe.

howtorebuild · 09/07/2016 16:20

2020? There is likely a GE in the autumn this year.

ThisPanCanCan · 09/07/2016 16:24

TM says she is committed to go the full term of Parliament IF she wins. But then THAT could change, like everything else!

Statistically, Scottish Labour MPs have only given Labour a majority once in the past 40-50 years, I believe. With a Tory majority of , what, 12 or 15, surely the new PM couldn't keep going until 2020. Especially AL who is likelyt o be almost as divisivea a JC.

flippinada · 09/07/2016 17:29

tiggy that's not correct. The Scottish vote certainly helps - but the total number of Scottish seats for Westminster is (I think) 56.

Labour can win an election without Scottish support..and a good Labour leader may well win back some seats from the SNP.

It's definitely not true - mind you Scottish Labour has its own issues, which I could write an essay on (but won't, don't worry! Grin)

lalalonglegs · 09/07/2016 17:55

I'm no expert but it seems to me that if someone as, ahem, controversial as Andrea Leadsom becomes PM, there would be a fair few backbench rebellions and, after the nth defeat, she'd have no choice but to call an election. Or do we just put up with 4 years of deadlocked parliament Confused?

georgedawes · 09/07/2016 18:18

I too have joined the labour party and hope will be able to vote against jc. We desperately need a credible opposition and all he seems intent on is splitting the party. I am in despair at the labour party just now, people who support jc seem to think it's perfectly fine to be a party of opposition forever. We need to attract conservative voters or will never be in government again. That is the brutal reality.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 09/07/2016 18:32

My PIL resigned their membership 6 months ago because of JC. Today they have rejoined to vote against him.

kesstrel · 09/07/2016 18:35

I've joined to vote against him, too.

lalalonglegs · 09/07/2016 18:41

Angela Eagle has announced that she will be standing for leadership on Monday, I just hope to God that Owen Smith doesn't as well, the last thing that we need is a split in the anti-Corbyn vote Sad.

oldbirdy · 09/07/2016 18:45

I won't join Labour because I HATE that anyone who disagrees with Corbyn and the way he is holding his colleagues to random is told to fuck off, called a 'red tory' or 'tory lite' or a 'Traitor' or 'Blairite scum'. However I will be a £3 voter and I will vote for the candidate most likely to topple Corbyn. I find his refusal to engage with the people he works with absolutely astounding, him hiding behind McConnell and Milne is outrageous. This is NOT my party and these are NOT my people, not because of their policies as much as to their behaviour towards anyone who disagrees with them for any reason. My dislike of Corbyn is largely because of his woeful performance in opposition to Tory education policy and inability to make political capital when the opposition are sitting ducks. He is not smart enough, quick enough. He only wants to communicate with those who share his views, hence him repeatedly appearing at Momentum rallies and mining socials whilst refusing to engage with any mainstream media or even his deputy fucking leader. The man is an intransigent egomaniac, demanding loyalty after refusing the whip 500 odd times himself. It's a bloody joke.

KatieHopkinsAteMyHamster99 · 09/07/2016 18:52

Hear hear Oldbirdy

JCs message to the PLP is "shut up and do what I say"

How exactly does that square with "a new kind of politics" or his 30 year record of voting against the party. The man is weak and a hypocrite. Unfortunately so many people are kidding themselves that he is the plucky underdog.

georgedawes · 09/07/2016 18:57

The thing is I've checked and the option to be a £3 supporter isn't there just now, I don't know if it would be in a future contest. I've signed up as a full member just in case, it wasn't much money. Hope enough of us do to hopefully make a difference.

ThisPanCanCan · 09/07/2016 19:01

yes the full membership per month basic isn't much more.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 09/07/2016 19:01

It will be. It is only avaliable once a contest is announced.

Everytimeref · 09/07/2016 19:19

Truthfully I am hoping someone else put themselves forward as I don't think I could vote for AG .
