Corbyn still hanging in there

I actually quite admire that. Hanging tough. I think it shows a sharp contrast to Cameron who can't get out of things soon enough.

Could Corbyn actually be the next PM?

It's feasible to say that it wasn't JC's fault that he couldn't get the Murdoch Press on side but he is a labour leader who can't get the support of the Guardian.

Equally, he isn't just a labour leader who doesn't have the support of the right wing of the party, he doesn't have the support of 80% of MP's. They can't all be written off as 'Blairites', even with a clear definition of what 'Blairite' means. Blair left office almost a decade ago and the 80% have been elected by 9 million members of the UK population.

There is a point where any rational person should accept that this can't all be blamed on a conspiracy. There is only one way to become PM of the UK. It is not to call Tory voters scum, it is to persuade them to vote for you. If he can't even talk to somebody from the mild left of his own party, how on earth is he going to convince the wider electorate?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/07/2016 07:16

Yet the media played down everything he did or said.

He went on holiday during the last few weeks of campaigning! Hardly trying is it?

flippinada · 11/07/2016 07:34

Exactly merrymouse.

Regardless of anything else - what you think of him, his principles etc, he just isn't able to lead the party effectively.

As per Pan's comment above I'm beginning to think there are some LP members whose priority is an ideologically pure Labour Party, and for whom electability is a trivial side issue.

GlassCircles · 11/07/2016 07:53

Re 'the media let him down' - I find that phrasing odd. He isn't owed a sympathetic portayal by the media - it's up to him and his press team to effectively engage and communicate their vision. Yes Murdoch and Dacre arent ever going to do Labour any favours, but he needs to work with the situation that IS and manage the media as a whole. There have been times where he has been very conspicuously absent and that just doesnt inspire confidence if you are undecided about him - he cant afford to do it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2016 11:11

Will he vote against his own party policy of which he is leader on 18th July?

Well it wouldn't be the first time if he did ... if memory serves that would be the 534th time Hmm

There is a point where any rational person should accept that this can't all be blamed on a conspiracy

Exactly

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/07/2016 11:19

Well it wouldn't be the first time if he did ... if memory serves that would be the 534th time

True.

lalalonglegs · 11/07/2016 12:20

Andrea Leadsom has just stood down as she felt that with only 25% of Conservative MPs supporting her, she couldn't have commanded a strong government. Jeremy Corbyn has even less but apparently that is no bar to him being leader Angry.

YourPerception · 11/07/2016 12:22

If a GE is called due to a May crowning labour will be in a terrible situation.Sad

TheNorthRemembers · 11/07/2016 12:24

Red We will need another one of your excellent summaries to cheer us all up and continue with this sense of unreality. [Confused]

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/07/2016 13:05

If a GE is called due to a May crowning labour will be in a terrible situation

Yep and I think Mays campaign launch speech had some points that will very much appeal to swing voters and Labour voters that won't vote Labour under Corbyn.

GlassCircles · 11/07/2016 13:52

Yes May's speech was clearly intended to court the middle to left ground (which is of course wide open for the taking).

Labour now calling for a snap GE - presumably to shut up the Golden Jeremy's challengers - because of course Jeremy and his small handful of loyal MPs will sweep to victory.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/07/2016 14:34

I also imagone that after that speech by Len McLuskey (sp) today at UNITE conference it will strengthen the resolve of PLP rather than sooth it.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 11/07/2016 16:44

Well we might have a snap election now that May takes over this week.

Labour don't stand a chance of winning this might be the only way we can get rid of Corbyn or for the party to split

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2016 16:50

Just a small point - I mentioned earlier the number of times JC had voted against his own party, but perhaps I should have mentioned he's not done this since becoming leader

It might almost be thought that being leader is more important to him than the principles involved ... odd for a man who's constantly being described as principled, but there you go Hmm

nellodee · 12/07/2016 12:45

If the labour party MPs are all parachuted in Fabians, how do the MPs represent the party? How do the people of the country have a real choice if it is between manufactured option A and manufactured option B? Its like going to a restaurant and having to choose between steak and chicken, when actually, you're vegetarian.
Everyone is talking about the Tory party managing to replace their leader in such a short time without consulting party members as though this is a good thing. Does no-one actually want a say in choosing the options that we then actually vote between?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/07/2016 12:53

If the labour party MPs are all parachuted in Fabians

Except they aren't. Some of those that are resigned are left left.

They resigned because Corbyn isn't a leader. They are also door knocking and talking to their constituents that won't vote Labour whilst he is there.

To win a GE Labour has to get swing voters plus people back from UKIP and Tories. That won't happen under him.

Simple as that.

lalalonglegs · 12/07/2016 20:00

Corbyn is to appear on the ballot automatically the NEC has ruled. Thoughts? I would dearly loved him to resign but, as he wants to keep fighting, I think the only way forward is to allow him to be part of the process (but I'm praying that the mood has turned among LP members and he doesn't win).

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 20:02

They can't beat him now. Goodness knows how shit the eventual outcome will be but it's THEIR FAULT, not his

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 20:08

I mentioned earlier the number of times JC had voted against his own party, but perhaps I should have mentioned he's not done this since becoming leader

You mean he should have voted against himself? GrinGrinGrin

Hiddenaspie1973 · 12/07/2016 20:09

That man will leave gouge marks in his wake, that's for sure. 😂 What a Klingon 😂😂😂😂

whirlwinds · 12/07/2016 20:09

Piglet and crossroad, why so? These past few weeks has opened my eyes to this guy, didn't vote for any of them but would give my vote to Corbyn. Labour is the main party in our family and because of Corbyn we intend to vote for him if we can. He is PM material and would be able to gets the changes and reforms needed for the UK with enough support.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 20:55

If he is PM material why didn't people get out and vote for labour in the local elections

I feel now he can stand the Labour Party will split this is what he wants thought of course he could have gone and joins the Socialist Labour Party but then he wouldn't have a seat in parliament

He will go down in history as the man who ruined the Labour Party at least he reaches his ambition after all those years of plotting to bring his party down he is an utter disgrace

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 21:03

He hasn't ruined anything!

His opponents have been determined from day 1 to bring him down one way or another & the MSM have colluded in that.

They've failed, but have pretty much destroyed the party in the process.

Tragic.

LowDudgeon · 12/07/2016 21:06

Ed Miliband failed to win the GE after more than 4 years as leader (of course the MSM didn't like him either Hmm) & you think Corbyn should have turned the electorate round after 6 months?

Seriously?

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 12/07/2016 21:15

His opponents you mean the Tory party who he had the opportunity numerous times to tear into and does nothing Hmm or those in the party that have dared to not go along with him of course that is not something he has continuously done since being a MP Hmm

He has had it handed to him on a plate tax credit cuts, bombing of Syria and the first doctors strike in 40 years any credible leader would have be far ahead in the polls and even now after the huge split in the Tory party they are pulling themselves together

And if you know anything about his beliefs you will know as most suspected he lied his way through the referendum because by doing so he could keep his position as party leader of he had been honest he would have been challenged

The spin of him being a victim of a conspiracy and a man of integrity is just that spin
