Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

How? Who does it benefit?

claig · 24/06/2016 02:08

There was a brilliant Guardian journalist on Newsnight 2 days ago who said that Labour is disintegrating in the North East, the East and Wales. He said it was something like a rebellion against the governing class who cannot govern, he called it a crisis for democracy.

If Leave win, it is almost or even is, a revolution against the ruling class. The implications are enormous.

No. We'll still have a Tory government and in 2020 you'll get another Tory government.

Millyonthefloss2 · 24/06/2016 02:12

Morning. Just woke up. (Went to sleep at 11.) So exciting but still so tense. I'm still worried about London and Birmingham.

claig · 24/06/2016 02:14

Ghost, Cameron will have to go, Corbyn may even be toppled. Labour will have to change. McDonnell and Umunna say they want PR voting. Things might really change as the political class adapts to what the people have said.

They should have got the message when their vote evaporated in Scotland, but still no.

As Alistair Campbell said - the voters shouldn't be allowed their say....

Pretty much sums up modern Labour's opinion on their core support.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 02:16

I think that there will be an appetite for PR now that people have actually felt their vote counting for a change.

claig · 24/06/2016 02:16

Morning Milly, yes London and Birmingham are very important and could put a dampener on things.

London is going to be huge for remain - I suspect they will carry it.

Then it's London plus Scotland vs (most of) the rest of the country plus Wales. ( apologies not sure where n Ireland is coming out).

Talk about divided nation

claig · 24/06/2016 02:29

'Talk about divided nation'

Yep. They are saying Inner london will be strong Remain, but Outer London may be weaker.

Shiny - I agree. I think that it's very unlikely that Leave wins. But think about the North/South and the London vs rest of country. Divided country indeed! Shocking times ahead because practically everywhere is Leave apart from London.

claig · 24/06/2016 02:32

Barking & Dagenham big Leave. JelliedEels was part of it, but she is probably asleep at the moment Smile

Nuneaton - bellwether seat comes out strongly for #leave 66/34. (Thrasher had it 54/46)

Andrew Neil is reading Mumsnet! (Waves at Andrew) - best interviewer EVER!

Millyonthefloss2 · 24/06/2016 02:49

Is it going to be 50:50? What will happen then? Negotiate to stay in but with no free movement?

fourmummy · 24/06/2016 02:50

Andrew Neil is brilliant.
Margins getting closer again. Nerve wracking stuff.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 02:51

We're on 50/50 Confused
This is so exciting.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 24/06/2016 02:52

Imagine if there is less than 0.5% margin between the results! Shock
1/2 the country will be cross one way or the other

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 24/06/2016 02:52

50:50 is the worst possible result for the country and the economy.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 02:53

I fucking love MN!

"Half the country will be cross" Grin

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 02:54

I love the word 'cross', I use it all the time - it's such an exasperated mum type of word!

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 24/06/2016 02:55

Mango I love it too! My DD would say it's my default mood......

shinytorch2 · 24/06/2016 02:57

Has West Oxfordshire declared ( Cameron's constituency) - lots of vote leave signs on the a40 the other day just to piss him off !

BlunderWomansCat · 24/06/2016 03:06

Aaarrgghhhh I'm watching from behind a cushion, the cats looking at me like this Confused
