Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

Do Brexiters like rain? Its dry as anything here, and I'm in the East too.

blueskyinmarch · 23/06/2016 08:50

Oh and it is warm and sunny where i live in Scotland and i will be voting remain along with DD2 and DH (actually they both already voted by postal vote).

CremeBrulee · 23/06/2016 08:50

Also in the East of England where it is indeed pissing it down. Hasn't stopped me going to cast my vote for Remain.

Does staying in the EU mean we will all start to dissolve when we get wet? Wouldn't surprise me to see that as part of the Leave rhetoric. Probably more realistic than their ad campaign. Confused

claig · 23/06/2016 08:52

There seems to be an awful lot of Remain voters posting on this thread. The Brexiters are obviously all at the polling booths.

Traditionally, Torres have always gone out to vote regardless of weather. Labour campaigners always pray for a dry day. Or at least that was always considered to be the case in my campaigning days in the 80s and 90s.

But since this campaign has crossed party lines, and since it isn't raining in the majority of the country, your logic and rhetoric seem a little misplaced claig

You stand a pretty good chance of looking like a right narna later Grin

claig · 23/06/2016 08:59

'You stand a pretty good chance of looking like a right narna later'

It won't be the first time. It has happened once or twice before, never often though.

We will have to wait and see what the people choose, and how much the elite stand to lose.

Juncker has said no more concessions to the UK. Which I understand, as other EU countries will start demanding their own if he gives us any more.

Am voting later on, after a few glasses of wine for courage! Going with my original thought which is leave.

Are there queues at the polling stations?

claig · 23/06/2016 09:05

Well done, FrankUnderwoodsWife. What Juncker says now will be unlike what he has to do afterwards. They all know that their game is up even if we Remain. The British people are showing the whole world how unhappy they are with this clique who rule us and ride roughshod over our views.

I was at the polling station about 7.20 a.m., took my own pen, there were two people ahead of me and four behind. It was early, but hopefully the people will come out in droves.

Please tell me you aren't subscribing to that ludicrous conspiracy theory about using pencils, claig? Can I offer you some tin foil to make a hat with?

Bimblepops · 23/06/2016 09:10

Well me, DH and practically everyone I know are all heading out into the rain to vote Remain. The rain isn't going to stop us attempting to save our country!

DetestableHerytike · 23/06/2016 09:12

I'm pretty sure Brussels can find out the weather using google rather than telephone updates....

claig · 23/06/2016 09:15

'I'm pretty sure Brussels can find out the weather using google '

They are technologically illiterate as well as being obviously financially illiterate. The only thing they can read is the most expensive item on the menu at the finest restaurant which they can then bill to the public.

The logic of the idea that posting on this thread means you're too lazy to vote, and that's why there are so many Remainers whilst the Leavers are all voting, is kind of defeated by the initial premise of the thread!

I'll be out there - and from my window I can see a steady procession of people walking to the Polling Station at the end of the road. I'm sure there are Remainers and Brexiteers among them!

oldharrysgame · 23/06/2016 09:18

Weirdly the uk is not just the south east of England. Lovely and sunny here. People will vote. We'll get a result. That's it. Op - the hysteria will make you ill.

howtorebuild · 23/06/2016 09:20

I am Grin at random people shouting independence day at one another in the rain, or were you the one shouting?

ICanCountToOneHundred · 23/06/2016 09:22

Well the sun is shining in North Wales, not sure how that will make a difference though!

Peeporeader · 23/06/2016 09:22

You are a truly fine example of Poes Law, Claig. The bit about Brussels bureaucrats walking around in a daze is beautiful.

Justchanged · 23/06/2016 09:24

If you're on the side of the people, why are you hoping they don't vote?????

Peeporeader · 23/06/2016 09:24

INDEPENDENCE

The weather is on the side of the people
claig · 23/06/2016 09:26

'or were you the one shouting'

No, I just nodded, laughed and said "absolument". The air of celebration was evident, the joy was plain to see. The rain was chucking it down but it couldn't dampen the spirits of the Brexiteers.

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 23/06/2016 09:27

Given that the definition of elite is a small group of people, I'm not sure how you think it's only the elite that are voting remain. I'm guessing that quite a number of "the people" are too

redhat · 23/06/2016 09:28

Ah, its just claig...

Whisky2014 · 23/06/2016 09:29

As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks. OH GOD! This is too cringey!

The problem is you think that where you are that's what it's like all over the place. So you might be wrapped up in a world of "Leave" but I really doubt that's what's going to happen.
I was like that in the Yes campaign for Scotland. I voted Yes. I was all smug wearing my YES top.
Don't get ahead of yourself, OP. You don't want to look like a fool.

TheNaze73 · 23/06/2016 09:30

Sorry OP, I think your post reeks of desperation.

The weather is not going to put level headed people off, voting to remain. Just because they don't make a lot of noise & revel at being the underdog, doesn't mean the silent majority, won't vote & most importantly, vote the right way.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 23/06/2016 09:33

Augusta, claig believes in all the conspiracy theories, plus an additional overarching one of his/her own which s/he hasn't shared with us yet, but I bet it's a corker.

SE here, been out to vote Remain, about to go and start encouraging others to get out and vote too.

Overcast but dry here.
