Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

'Why can't the EU reform?'

Because the people who control it have a political project of closer union. They are very unlikely to allow that to be changed by any political class. That us the weakness that prevents democratic reform. The political project conflicts with democratic accountability for the people. The EU is much more than just a trade area and that is its weakness and what its controllers consider its strength and its goal.

We're exempt from closer political union? Also the people who have control of it are the national governments of the member states and the MEPs from those member states.

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 23:37

Ah Yes, I believe fakes cost around 150 quid Ghost.

claig · 23/06/2016 23:37

There will be talk of cosmetic change. Cameron will pretend he will give them a talking to in Brussels and they will pretend they have listened. But in reality, nothing will change because Brussels is not shocked by the result since they already knew it was unpopular with a huge percentage of the British people and they still offered Cameron next to nothing in his "negotiation". They won't change now.

'We're exempt from closer political union?'

That is words. The EU won't call it "closer union" and Cameron will tell us that "we are better together" with the EU, working for "common values", he won't call it "closer union". Amber Rudd will be rolled out to convince us that we "are better together with Brussels for climate change" and the BBC will agree and no one will ask the people.

humans have evolved to be risk averse, the devil you know always seems like the safer option, I'll be surprised if leave wins but there wont be much in it either way

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 23:42

smallfox, it depends on the circumstances and the reading of the words by whom at the time.

The toby young thing very clearly showed that when he went back to 75 and studied the wording then, the promises...and how they have disintergrated.

whats this on the screen?

19,322 95.9 % remaind and then leave 4.1% and 823?

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 23:43

OMG tony blairs former script writer is calling farage a fantasist Grin

shinytorch2 · 23/06/2016 23:44

Haha! Small fox, we may have a "veto" - who knows if a future PM will use it, against ever closer union. But this is what the aim of the EU is. It is NOT just a single economic area anymore. The plan is for political union.

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 23:44

x post claig.

Glass, do any of us know the devil in Brussels?

Their background, their hypocrisies...their good deeds their bad?

claig · 23/06/2016 23:45

'19,322 95.9 % remaind and then leave 4.1% and 823?'

ah - thanks!! Yes....phew....Grin

Milliband hates to say immigration, he struggles to say the word, except in the sentance " look my parents were immigrants".

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 23:48

reports came in from labour regional directors, things looked bad for remain, very bad - cant sugar the pill.

they have been doing some door stopping but with such deep issues, I would be amazed if labour has schmoozed so many people over...to remain.

claig · 23/06/2016 23:50

BBC have Carswell on rubbishing Farage, the poster, the registration extension that Farage complains about and they don't have Farage on. As per usual then.

didn't heseltine (?) confirm as much in a recent debate with farage?

claig · 23/06/2016 23:56

'didn't heseltine (?) confirm as much in a recent debate with farage?'

I didn't watch that one, but I wouldn't be surprised. The reality is that the project is controlled way above the heads of Heseltine or Cameron. The agenda will be followed and a political class can do little about it.

Glass, do any of us know the devil in Brussels?

vote with the people

So the other ones. Who don't vote with you OP are what exactly? If Remain win do you stop being of the people or does that mean >50% of the electorate are not the people?

Isn't it always the people who vote in a democracy?Confused

smallfox1980 · 24/06/2016 00:04

Starting to sound like a conspiracy theorist there Claig, every post you make is about elites and establishments.
