Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

'vote with the people'

I agree with Farage when he says it is the people vs the Establishment

That doesn't mean all the people, but it means that the only opposition to the Establishment is the people (since the Establishment is in the main united).

But still a remain win :)

RosesareSublime · 24/06/2016 00:09

yes but a small one in an area expecting a large win Smile

claig · 24/06/2016 00:11

'But still a remain win '

Let's wait and see, but the Establishment has immense power as it has the Bank of England, the IMF, the BBC etc on its side and it can use them for Project Fear in order to maintain the staus quo. The people who want change just have Farage, Boris and Gove.

I did smile at the "oh, but they've a large university educated section there, that result is Shock"

I have become heartily sick of being told that the highly educated voters will always vote remain (coz they're superior obvs).

smallfox1980 · 24/06/2016 00:13

Ah yes, Farage, Boris and Gove men of the people, champions of the little guy. Not Establishment types at all.

claig · 24/06/2016 00:13

Things are looking up. Putting the coffee on, it is not over yet. Smile

Same here Mango.

How can people be so blinkered.

fourmummy · 24/06/2016 00:15

Claig - I'll join you.

RosesareSublime · 24/06/2016 00:16

We may well loose but I have a feeling there is going to be a big shock in at least one areas vote. desperately trying to keep awake for Sunderland

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/06/2016 00:16

Ah yes, Farage, Boris and Gove men of the people, champions of the little guy. Not Establishment types at all.

British politics has become so desperate that Michael Gove is seen as a revolutionary figure. Grin

RosesareSublime · 24/06/2016 00:17

ok what does this mean?

BlunderWomansCat · 24/06/2016 00:17

Oh heck Sad

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 00:17

Great result from Sunderland!

fourmummy · 24/06/2016 00:17

61.3% out for Sunderland!

RosesareSublime · 24/06/2016 00:18

what does this mean? tell me tell me,

fourmummy · 24/06/2016 00:19

The way the markets are reacting, we could well be out!

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 00:19

Jeremy Vine is explaining now Rose

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 24/06/2016 00:19

In what way is the Establishment united?

The government who are surely a major part of the Establishment are riven.
The media another part of TE have most tabloids firmly in the leave camp....or are the Express and the DM suddenly rebels.

The Greens - hardly part of TE are for remain.

Boris Johnson is about as Establishment as it gets.

Unless you are defining The Establishment as people with an education and a grasp of economics then you are just making up a meaningless tinfoil hattery term to impart nobility on a political opinion that you happen to hold as a way of hedging your bets against a possible loss.

If leave win its the triumph of the wee man against the made up establishment if they lose its the plucky loser downtrodden by the forces of evil in an unfair fight.

Its not. Its democracy. Either way. In all its unpalatable, ill informed, vote with your gut, do whatevet it takes, first past the post, unduly influenced by the press, partisan glory.

Fucked up. But it's all we have.

But it isn't the people versus the not the people.

smallfox1980 · 24/06/2016 00:19

It means the people of Sunderland are turkeys voting for Christmas, come out of the EU and bye bye Nissan.

flippinada · 24/06/2016 00:20

Sunderland have just royally shafted themselves. And maybe the rest of the country.

claig · 24/06/2016 00:22

'The way the markets are reacting, we could well be out!' Grin

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 00:23

I think it goes to show just how high the feeling runs against the EU in those areas if they're prepared to shaft themselves.

Politicians have massively undervalued so many ordinary people for far too long.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/06/2016 00:23

shouldn't be surprized really, Thatcher was voted in 3 times.

crossparsley · 24/06/2016 00:25

Ach Glaig, you're a daft old coot. And tomorrow, win or lose, you'll still be a daft old coot. Please stay on MN.
