Did you marry your university boyfriend?

I have just been looking at the Oxbridge thread and noticed that a lot of relationships survived. Is this peculiar to these universities?
I'm thinking that on graduating they all stayed in the SE or London.

Yes. Met dh moving into halls. Married 3 years later, 2 dcs, and now 15th anniversary living in uni town!

mumeeee · 22/08/2012 15:32

I didn't go to uni so didn't matrry my university boyfriend. I met my DH at work. However DD1 did marry her university boyfriend and he was also her first and last boyfriend, They have now been married for 3 and a half years.

EqualsX · 22/08/2012 15:42

Yes, we met at Uni......been together for 16 years, married for 11 years, 2 DCs....

Hairtodayandgonetomorrow · 27/08/2012 17:57

I didn't, I had two serious boyfriends at university, both of which I split up with after about 2 years; one because he pretty much ignored me in the holidays when he went back home and the other because he was horrendously unsupportive after my dad died (eg. booked a train that would make him late for the funeral because it was cheaper!)

I was then made redundant so moved back home to mummy and started dating DH.

I went to a Russell Group university.

Panzee · 27/08/2012 17:59

Erm, no. I met quite a few men at uni but none who I would consider a boyfriend. Blush Grin. I met my husband when I was 25.

Bonsoir · 27/08/2012 18:01

No, but I did really like my university boyfriend and would have liked to stay with him at the time. I realise, with the benefit of hindsight, that he was all wrong for me (though with very many qualities nonetheless) and am very, very happy with DP, who is a better version of my first ever serious BF.

NoComet · 27/08/2012 18:25

I met my DH at a conference while I was a student, but he was a postgrad somewhere else.
We married before I graduatedGrin

teacherwith2kids · 27/08/2012 18:34

Like Bonsoir, was very fond of my long-term university boyfriend - we both carried on to postgraduate courses at Cambridge but didn't quite make it through to the end as a couple.

Life would have been ... different ... had we got married.

BlueEyeshadow · 27/08/2012 18:36

Yes, not Oxbridge though. It was our 11th anniversary on Saturday.

wordfactory · 27/08/2012 20:05

It depends which boyfriend you're talking about OP, there were quite a few Wink.

I suppose the main guy, was a contender. Everyone else thought he might be my 'one'. But we had different plans on graduation. I suspect we both thought we might get it together again in a couple of years, but then I met DH and that, as they say, was that.

We're still in touch though.

TheDogDidIt · 28/08/2012 09:43

Good point. I definitely only married one of mine.

mamasin · 28/08/2012 17:09

Yes I did! We met when I was in Second Year, he moved over to be with me in Third Year, waited while I did a Post Grad, and another and now we are married 8 years. He is wonderful needless to say!

Knittingnovice · 28/08/2012 17:43

Yep, met dh the day before my 19th birthday, was planning on asking him out then I broke my arm and shamelessly abused his car to take me to hospital appointments. Wanted to ask him out once the cast was off but mates had different ideas and abandoned us in a pub where he had to help me put my jacket back on. Been together ever since, 14 years together, married nearly 10, 2 dc's and just found out am 6 weeks with dc 3. Was definitely not Oxbridge, but Newcastle, however we now live in the south east as he got relocated nearly 7 years ago and now live 15 miles from where he grew up and too far from where I grew up.
It's funny, the last thing my mm said as she left me at uni was keep your eyes open you could end up marrying one of these!! Grin

harbingerofdoom · 29/08/2012 22:53

wordfactory thank you for updating me. I thought that the younger generation was 'pure as snow' ha ha.

sheeplikessleep · 06/09/2012 14:35

papworth · 08/09/2012 14:47

Met at a Russell Uni, bought a house with him and lived with him for a few years afterwards before he ran off with the 'bimbo cow' not that I'm bitter or anything..

Second degree with the OU. Met hubby at Summer School, kidnapped him at the end of the week and took him home with me Blush Married 16 years, 2 children

CollieEye · 08/09/2012 15:13
