Did you marry your university boyfriend?

I have just been looking at the Oxbridge thread and noticed that a lot of relationships survived. Is this peculiar to these universities?
I'm thinking that on graduating they all stayed in the SE or London.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 18/08/2012 22:42

No, I met and got together with DH for the only year in my adult life when I have not been at university. He'd just graduated from one university and I was just about to start a course at it.

We did meet in Oxford (town) though, maybe there is something romantic about all those pretty buildings?! Smile

BeaWheesht · 18/08/2012 22:42

Yes, met dh 2 months after starting Uni. Still together almost 12 years later, 2 kids, mortgage etc, married 7 years.

BeaWheesht · 18/08/2012 22:43

We didnt go to Oxbridge though. But did go to one just about as arsy

LRDtheFeministDragon · 18/08/2012 22:47

Oh, and we got the 'go to university to meet a nice man' speech from teachers too ... but I strongly suspect it had a touch of irony! Grin

My mum's best mate at university married her university lecturer!

PandaG · 18/08/2012 22:58

No - DH and I met at school at 15 (me) 14 (him)! Started dating in lower VI, engaged at 18/19, married at 21 as soon as we graduated (from different universities). He was Oxbridge, I wasn't

patternedtights · 19/08/2012 02:07

No, I went to Bristol but found most of the male students immature and generally dated local older men. Met DH later through evening classes in London, he was US Ivy League.

stikmatix · 19/08/2012 14:28

Yes. We were both at Cambridge, different colleges, met in final year as had the same course options. We have lived abroad pretty much since graduating (in 1999). We've been together for 13.5 years, married 11 years and have 4 DC.

JaffaSnaffle · 19/08/2012 14:39

Yes, we have been together 12 years, married for 4. We were both at Oxford, but at different colleges

chrisrobin · 19/08/2012 14:44

Yes, we met at university (not Oxbridge), married, have 2 children and still live in the same area.

blackteaplease · 19/08/2012 14:45

No. We dated for a year then continued to be fuck buddies for the next 4 years. We were twats to each other. I was jealous and clingy he couldn't have cared less but the sex was amazing. Met dh at 22 and knew straightway that he was a keeper.

LadyLetch · 19/08/2012 15:08

Yes, although he wasn't a student, just a local.

I met him in my 3rd year, when I was 21 and we went out for a while, split up, got back together when I was doing my PGCE. We moved in together straight after I finished uni, and have now lived together for 14 years and have been married for 11.

jabed · 19/08/2012 15:34

I married an ex student. That does not make me a dirty old man. She had left university sometime before I asked her out. :)

acebaby · 19/08/2012 18:36

DH and I got together in Freshers' week (Cambridge). We have been together 19 years, married for 12 and now have two DC's (7 and 4). We were each other's first boyfriend/girlfriend as well Smile.

Blackduck · 19/08/2012 18:39

Well I didn't marry him, but I am still with him. Met doing a masters at Lancaster....

TheProvincialLady · 19/08/2012 18:46

mnistooaddictive · 20/08/2012 07:09

jaggythistle · 20/08/2012 07:39

futureunknown · 20/08/2012 07:46

Yes we met as first years. Not Oxbridge but RG. We've been married for over 20 years, have two children and live abroad.

babyboomersrock · 20/08/2012 14:19

Met my first husband at St Andrews - marriage lasted 20 years and produced four lovely children. Wasn't my only St A boyfriend but he was my first.

Then I re-met my second husband whom I'd also first met at St A. He was a very junior lecturer back then - and we didn't go out while I was in his class. Very proper.

Married very happily now for 7 years.

OhTheConfusion · 20/08/2012 14:28

I married my uni lecturer Blush

hellyd · 20/08/2012 15:17

I married my uni (ex poly) computing technician
He fixed the computers, I was the masters student on placement that kept breaking computers, once I met him I broke them a bit more often.....we invited the lecturer who introduced us to the wedding.

PetaO · 20/08/2012 15:29

Yes: married 4 years, together 7, one child, met at Bath uni

SingingSands · 20/08/2012 15:41

Yes! Met at uni in Glasgow. Our first snog was on my 18th birthday. Grin

Somehow we've lasted 15 years, have 2 kids, 2 cats and a great relationship still.

It wasn't my plan - I thought I was going to spend 4 years shagging around then settle down when I was ancient (30). Haha!

Chandon · 21/08/2012 18:52

Singinghands, I had the same plan! But the second guy I selpt with wath future-DH...

I had plans you know.....
