Did you marry your university boyfriend?

I have just been looking at the Oxbridge thread and noticed that a lot of relationships survived. Is this peculiar to these universities?
I'm thinking that on graduating they all stayed in the SE or London.

Yes, though I'd finished my degree and he had another year to go. Not Oxbridge. I have an even scarier number, albert - 26 years.

Loshad · 17/08/2012 21:11

yes met DH in freshers week (he was 3rd year though). That was (gulp) 29 years ago, been married nearly 20 years, 4 dc. Northern university, stayed in the area.

notcitrus · 17/08/2012 21:16

Yes, at Cambridge. Not my first uni boyfriend, who lasted from start of term 2 to nearly a year later, but a grad student who was supposed to be a one night stand ended up chatting for a whole weekend, supporting me through mental breakdown in my final year despite moving to a new city, and I ended up visiting him regularly after leaving... 17 years later here we are!

The mental breakdown bit might be more common at Oxbridge.

QueenofPlaids · 17/08/2012 21:19

No...but we're still together almost 10 years on Grin

Not Oxbridge, but Russell Group.

Toomanychoices · 17/08/2012 21:34

EdgarOlymPic · 17/08/2012 21:54

my parent met at Leicester, some 40 years ago....

many dogs, one cat, 4 children...a load of fish...

RuthlessBaggage · 17/08/2012 21:57

Actually come to think of it, my parents met at Cambridge in 1972...!

midnightisaplace · 17/08/2012 22:00

Yes! Got together at the end of first year. That was in 1999 and we will have been married for 7years next week. Not Oxbridge though, Liverpool Uni. At least three other couples from our smallish friendship group at Uni have also ended up married.

teacherwith2kids · 17/08/2012 22:01

No - DH is a school friend of a uni friend, though.

I am the only member of my family (2 siblings, parents - and, come to think of it, all siblings of my parents too) NOT to have met my spouse at uni.

All Oxbridge, though none from same colleges (obviously not, in previous generation, as no mixed colleges).

SkiBumMum · 17/08/2012 22:07

Another Cardiff couple here. Garytank your "stats" are the same as mine! My parents' met at uni too. DH's parents met at school.

IwishIwasinLondon · 17/08/2012 22:13

He graduated in 1994, I started in 1994.

He was still instructing in a club that I joined.

We've been married for 10 years now!

sicutlilium · 17/08/2012 22:16

Though I didn't marry my college boyfriend (Nigel, where are you now?) I married a bloke who read Law at Fitz with an old school friend, so very much in my comfort zone. I think what this thread is about is assortative mating.

CMOTDibbler · 17/08/2012 22:17

I graduated in 1994 too - married 15 years ago in the Thistle hotel on Queens St

ginmakesitallok · 17/08/2012 22:17

derekthehamster · 17/08/2012 22:21

smugmumofboys · 17/08/2012 22:22

Yes. Same Oxford college. London after college, now in the North West.

Two children and together over twenty years.

Herrena · 17/08/2012 22:24

No, thank goodness. Nearly did though. What a complete twat he was....

He had a lovely extended family though, I do miss them! My would-have-been MIL still texts on my birthday and got in touch to congratulate me when my babies were born, bless her :)

chocoluvva · 17/08/2012 22:24

Not first uni BF either.

Herrena · 17/08/2012 22:25
