Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

InSurrey, the site was crashing like mad but got email.

DS2 got his first choice, so will be going with DS1.

I am quite tearful, how sad am I

Lucycat · 01/03/2011 19:19

Thank you miniwedge I wasn't sure if you had to sit an extra entrance exam as well as the 11+ for a superselective. So they just take the very brightest then?

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2011 19:27

Lucycat - to give you some idea, the girls grammar schools in Sutton (there are only two or three of them, I think) have 1200-1500 applicants for about 120 places.

So it's not top 25% there, as in counties with the grammar system, it's more like top 10%. Superselective!

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2011 19:28

Well done GORGEOUSX (and DD2)! Enjoy the celebrations, and thanks for starting this thread.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 01/03/2011 19:29

Got text and email confirming DS2's place at DS1's school. It's nice to have official confirmation but the school has a sibling preference so I would have been shocked if he hadn't got the place Smile

Went online to accept the place, but have been somewhat distracted by this sentence...

"Lambeth School Admissions Team must receive your reply to the school offer made for your child, ie, accepting or declining (rejecting) it by Tuesday 15 March 2011, otherwise your child could loose their place." (sic)

AlmightyCitrus · 01/03/2011 19:31

I've just checked the website (again) and it says:

Results for secondary applications are now available and can be viewed below.

Where dammit??
There is no "below".

refresh....refresh...refresh....

CristinaTheAstonishing · 01/03/2011 19:32

Lots of happy DCs and parents tonight.

Best wishes for all still waiting, whether results or waiting lists.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 01/03/2011 19:39

Have dipped into this thread in the hope of cadging a glass of wine... Not involved directly, but have friends going thru' this, and I can't believe how incredibly stressful it is for everyone, and how SURELY could be better managed?
Completely understand that you cannot permanently engineer for peak capacity, but how about managing the peaks better - by eg saying surnames a-c 9am, b-d 10.00 etc. They know that most people will log in at the earliest time, so could at least spread the load. And surely the most elementary of testing could eliminate the horrific emails that say your DC has been allocated BLANK.
Very best luck to everyone - your DC are already incredibly privileged in having parents who care so much about their education and happiness, so whererever they go, will have the emnormous benefit of the loving support.
(Now pleeeeease, may I have a glass too? Grin)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2011 19:42

awww of course you can MrsG we have loads

kitchensync · 01/03/2011 19:44

Aww Mrs G you just made me cry. We just had good news first choice !

weblette · 01/03/2011 19:45

I think what's depressing me most is that I'll have to do this another three times with the boys.

And no, still no answer.

kitchensync · 01/03/2011 19:48

weblette it is horrible isn't it. I am hoping maybe the system will improve. It would be brilliant if all this was made easier for siblings.

weblette · 01/03/2011 19:48

BTW Brill news for everyone successful, sorry for those not so...

LadyWellian · 01/03/2011 19:53

OYBBK - glad you got an answer and it was a good one.

And congrats and commiserations to everyone where appropriate.

Got email from eadmissions which I had to not open on my BlackBerry all the way home as had agreed with DH that we'd all find out together.

Opened the email and we have got our 2nd choice YAAAYYY! 1st choice was a massive long shot that we put down because it was a) brilliant and b) mixed, but 2nd choice is a) brilliant and b) 10 mins' walk from our house. DD has now stopped bouncing off the walls with joy and we are now opening the Wine we bought in case a celebration was required.

Positive vibes to the rest of you still waiting. Thanks for all the support and to GORGEOUSX for starting the thread.

Now I need to ring my parents. DH a bit Hmm that I was telling strangers on the internet first!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 01/03/2011 19:53

thx

Jynxed · 01/03/2011 19:55

Still haven't heard here in West Sussex. Website has a technical problem, no email and no letter. This is torture, there has to be a better way.

LovelyJudy · 01/03/2011 19:56

Grin Wine

LovelyJudy · 01/03/2011 19:56

elizadoestoomuch · 01/03/2011 19:59

Fuck you February! You were a shit month to our family! Welcome March! DS got his 1st choice. Yes I know it was pot luck but his dad just died and to be able to give him some good news and see a smile a smile on his face was wonderful!

MadameDefarge · 01/03/2011 20:01

eliza, so so happy for you and ds! and big, unmn hugs too....

MadameDefarge · 01/03/2011 20:03

and thank you all, gorgeous, badkitten, yes a result. finally.

Can't wait to get my boy back. Its amazing how much you miss shovelling cereal into them of a morning!

breadandbutterfly · 01/03/2011 20:05

DD got 1st choice - Watford Grammar. In shock as was totally sure she hadn't got in. Hertfordshire online system was messed up too.

ajuba · 01/03/2011 20:18

breadandbutterfy - congrats! how close do you live to it out of interest?

Ballarat · 01/03/2011 20:20

We have friends whose DD is at Watford Grammar and she loves it there. They are very pleased. They don't live in Watford though-St Albans but she got a music place or something like that. Anyway, as I said, they are very pleased.

Niecie · 01/03/2011 20:20

Hampshire sent our email at 7.50pm so there must have been a lot of jumpy people around here for the last 2hr 50 min. DS got in where we wanted but no surprise.

Now got to arrange 1.5 terms of visits and taster sessions to ease his way into secondary for September. I suspect that will be far more stressful than the application process for us!

Congrats to those who are happy. Commiserations to those who aren't. Smile
