Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

Online application got corrupted so we couldn't view offer, and initially informed that the glitch could have stopped any offer at all going out and that our DDs application could have dropped out of this round of applications completely. You can imagine how we felt!! Very nice man from I.T dept managed to sort it out and we are all very happy with outcome. DD did not get offered 1st choice (highly selective GS) but did get 2nd choice, a fantastic local secondary, she is still dancing round the room. Added bonus is as we are in catchment DD will be able to get bus from close to home. All in all a good day, if more than a little stressful. Will be knocking back the real wine tonight.Grin

Good luck everyone still waiting. The pan-London system went down at 5 pm as expected, but dh got an email by 5:10 pm. My dd got offered her 1st choice comprehensive, so now we have decide whether to send her there or to a private school. We are not private school people IFKWIM, but I think dh is preferring the indie option. I prefer the comp, because I went there, but they are both good schools.

Still waiting - nails now bitten down to the quick.

GORGEOUSX - our esteemed OP - any news at your end??

GORGEOUSX · 01/03/2011 18:42

Right, after all that, I got through to Surrey only to be told that I come under Sutton Blush... yes, yes, I know, but I am a tad stressed. They did however tell me that my DD had not got 4th choice as that was a Surrey school.

I then 'phoned Sutton who told me, yes, they know the site has crashed - keep trying until 10.00 p.m. - and no, they can't tell me over the 'phone.

Then I got the magic text telling me that I could log-on and, I did, and, IT WORKED, and DD got 2nd choice and we are very happy - it's a GS, but not her sister's school. So, now I'm going to celebrate in RL, so I'm gonna say it's been FAB. Thanks to EVERYONE who came on the thread. Will have a look tomorrow to see the rest of the outcomes. BYEEEE Grin

weblette · 01/03/2011 18:44

I've really had enough of this now.

Noone has received any emails, the county website keeps crashing. When I finally got through to the offers page it was completely blank and of course the admissions team have gone home for the night...Angry

We managed to get through an admission appeal, dd is now terrified that it hasn't counted for anything - no matter how we reassure her.

CupAndSaucer · 01/03/2011 18:48

We got our third choice (DC's 1st choice). Not unexpected, and we think DC will fit in very well there. We wont be going on any waiting lists. I'm so glad it's all over.

Good luck to the rest of you still waiting.

And thank you Gorgeousx for starting this thread....it's been a lifesaver Smile I hope you get what you want x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2011 18:48

excellent Gorgeous - enjoy your evening :)

:( weblette. how rubbish.

Lucycat · 01/03/2011 18:51

Well done to all those who have their places, but can somebody please explain to someone from the north where we scrapped the GS system in the 1970s what a 'super selective' is? Does that mean that if you don't get you aren't super and haven't been selected?
Are your children being transported all over the County?

Madsometimes · 01/03/2011 18:55

Pixie - Dd1 tried the Kent Test but failed the maths part, so we only put down comprehensives.

Dh has already paid the deposit for the indie school, so I think his mind is made up. We have 2 dd's, and can afford the fees, but the thought of them is scary. Dh is self employed, and although business has been good so far, and we have enough savings to cover fees and mortgage for a few years, 12K per year is not something we are used to paying. Then there is dd2 who is currently in Y3...

HappyHome · 01/03/2011 18:55

We also had a complete cock up with the online admissions not working but managed to get the result over the phone. We got 'our' first choice - the one I didn't think we had a hope in hell of getting into. DS's best friend also got a place there so couldn't be any better.

Congratulations to some of you, commiserations to others and good luck to those of you yet to find out

A superselective is a selective that has a fairly small intake and hence takes the highest scorers.

Children won't need to be bussed across the county, there will be other local schools as well all with different admissions criteria.

Niecie · 01/03/2011 19:13

Anybody else in Hampshire? Have you got your emails?

We haven't heard anything but I am not too bothered as we only put the catchment school down as our choice and there is no reason why DS won't have got in. Just slightly concerned, despite confirmation emails at the time of doing the application, that somehow they didn't get it!!

weblette · 01/03/2011 19:16

Still no joy. very seriously pissed off now.
