Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

Confused I still get the "You will get an email after 5pm" message.

FriskyMare · 01/03/2011 13:28

Sorry if I'm repeating previous posts but has anyone heard from Trafford yet?

MyDearGirl · 01/03/2011 13:33

Cup
I actually live in Southampton, but kids are at
Hampshire schools. For once I am pleased with Crapita, I was able to log in to the Southampton site.
HCC will let you know in a couple of hours
www3.hants.gov.uk/education/admissions/ad-apply.htm

Then again, if SCC spent less on Crapita and more on the schools, there might be less of us crossing the border into Hampshire every day - low estimates are around 5000 kids a day do it, 500 from my catchment alone

naffedoff · 01/03/2011 13:44

Still waiting for my email in Leeds. Education Leeds say they're being sent out in batches so not to crash the server. One of DS's friends got the 1st choice school and he's further away then us, so should be ok.

GregorSamsa · 01/03/2011 13:46

Madsometimes - the e-admissions website has gone down on allocation day every year since online admissions was introduced. I don't suppose this year will be any different.

Last year we were supposed to be able to log on from 7am on 2nd March. In fact the website went down the evening before and wasn't up again till the afternoon of allocation day.

Obviously in a normal competent person's world, given that they know exactly how many people have applied and will want to log on at the same time, you'd think they'd arrange to have the appropriate server capacity for the entirely predictable volume of traffic, wouldn't you? You'd think. But you'd be wrong. Angry

crazymum53 · 01/03/2011 13:48

Hooray - the LEA have sent my allocation email and we have been offered our first choice school for dd. Must open another bottle of Wine to celebrate.
Am in Bristol - so other Bristol mums who applied on-line please check your email inboxes !

Firstly to repeat what many other posters have written - congratulations to all those who got the results they wanted and so sorry for those who didn't.

Have been feeling ever so slightly sick all morning! Only just got the letter and my DS has got his second choice which is what we were expecting. Then another letter to tell us that he has been offered a place at the grammar school, with a full bursary. I'm still in shock.

Hollylucysmum · 01/03/2011 14:02

starfleet - wow you must be pleased!!!

Cornishwitch · 01/03/2011 14:03

Our LA website has already gone offline as apparently too many glitches and incorrect info being sent out, hope they will get it up and running by 4pm which is the official notification time.

EarDrop · 01/03/2011 14:05

Are you all waiting for grammar school places? Is this elevn plus schools you are talking about or all of them?

MadameDefarge · 01/03/2011 14:05

all of them.

EarDrop · 01/03/2011 14:07

ok thanks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2011 14:11

lots of us dont have grammar schools in our areas :)

harvalp · 01/03/2011 14:11

"you'd think they'd arrange to have the appropriate server capacity for the entirely predictable volume of traffic, wouldn't you? You'd think. But you'd be wrong. angry"

Except that to provide that capacity for the rest of the year would be a totally wasted investment. It's the same as the phone system and call centres, designed to work at average traffic use plus a little.

BottleOfRum · 01/03/2011 14:26

London is 5pm, except for Hillingdon who made a bit of a mistake in the post room, and accidentally sent their letters out early, so if you are in Hillingdon, you should have got your letter this morning!!

Sportsmum · 01/03/2011 14:28

Trust Hillingdon - useless council - dreadful schools - even the so called "Outstanding" ones!

TalkinPeace2 · 01/03/2011 14:30

Eardrop
My choices were
(1) LEA next door Comp ; ideal - got it
(2) LEA next door Comp ; just about ideal - did not need it
(3) Catchment academy ; No way - I'd have home educated while doing the appeal!

PermaShattered · 01/03/2011 14:30

Well, I was expecting an email about 5pm and just got home to find a letter! An offer of a place at the Grammar School! Don't know how I feel really, do worry about the pressure.

But my daughter will be pleased..... x
