Early Spring Clean : Anyone for a 400 pounds by Easter challenge?

Gameboy · 19/01/2007 13:44

Was listening to a radio programme the other day about making money from your old things and it made me realise how much stuff I've got 'waiting to go on eBay'.

Just wondered if anyone fancied a challenge to see how much we can each make from selling the unwanted stuff we have by Easter. I reckon I could get to about ?400 maybe?

We'd have to share our eBay names, and then keep a running total of everything we sell between now and 31st March?

For simplicity's sake I'd suggest we just tot up the totals invoiced (incl. P&P)rather than the net profit IYSWIM?
To include only unwanted items - not trading of new goods etc....

I thought if it became competitive it might spur me into action more !

I have loads of watchers but not many bids, evenon stuff ending tonight/tomorrow

MascaraOHara · 12/02/2007 09:48

how long do you wait before you chase a non payer?

They haven't completed cgheckout, I have sent an invoice, they haven't paid... they are new though, only have 3 feedback comments. The listing ended Saturday so it's still early but never come across osmeone who didn't pay within 24 hours before..

it's only £1.50 so nothing to fuss over but would like to get it off my list of things to do one way or another.

TORTOISELIKESITNICEANDSLOW- i hope you dont mind me giving my opinion but i have had a look at the teddy dvd you are selling and think it is worth how much you are asking for but i think anyone looking might be put by having to fork out £50 right of, the whole fun of e bay is trying to get a bargain, i would have put it up for auction at a starting price of £10 just to get bidders interested and maybe get a few watchers, then nearer the end of the auction they should hopefully start fighting each other for it and the price will just shoot up, i sell a lot on e bay and have found this method usually does work pretty well, you could maybe have a friend on stand by to jump in at last min and bid really high if it looks like it wont sell for much not that i would ever do such a thing myself. you might just have to ask yourself though what is more important- the teddy sitting in your cupboard earning you no money or selling to someone who cant afford brand new and earning yourself a little extra to treat the kids to a nice day at the zoo etc. anyway this is the first time i have ever written a mesage so please dont take offence to anything i say lol

Littlemissbitch Thanks for the advice. Its always nice to get feedback from someone else. I would start it lower if i could be sure i would get enough for it. Suppose i could put on a reserve? I don't know anyone who would bid for me just to push price up.
I will have a think about over the week and maybe relist at the end of the week.
Thanks.

would have jumped at it.

Have you put it up for sale here?

need to list some stuff am sooo skint lol

tortoiseLikesItNiceAndSlow · 12/02/2007 12:34

Hi SNOWBall4girlz. It ended last night. Tried on MN a while ago but its worth a try again.

I too have masses to list. Its just so boring doing it. And am desperate for the money. DD2's cots broken and needs DD1's small bed so i need to buy DD1 a mid-sleeper bed as soon as possible.

Must list some later. Maybe all on BIN best offer. Need to get in the cupboard full of stuff to sell and sort it all into ages etc.

littlemissbitch · 12/02/2007 15:20

snowball4girlz try your hardest to get motivated!! i was the same as you the first time i sold on e bay but once the money starts coming in its worth it, then you get hooked and start wondering round your house with your digi cam taking pictures of anything thats not nailed down lol. my husband and i decided that 2 girls was enough for us and cleared out all there old toys and clothes and im sure i have made nearly £1000 so far, scary thing is though how much had i paid in the first place if thats what i get for them second hand anyway thats not to brag but to give you a kick up the bum to get all your own stuff listed lol

MascaraOHara · 12/02/2007 15:29

I listed some trainers last night, have 1 bid and 4 watchers already.. they are gorgeous though (too small for me)

MascaraOHara · 12/02/2007 15:56

I know I paid over £60 for them too

radcliffe · 12/02/2007 18:27

littlemiss can you offer us any advice based on your experience. Have you found any items in particular sell well?
I am finding this quite addictive as I have made at least 250 quid in the last 3 weeks. am starting to go through all the kids outgrown clothes now but not sure whether to sell bundles or a few items together.

littlemissbitch · 12/02/2007 19:42

radcliffe most of what i sell is girls next clothes and most of them have only been worn a few time but i find the best thing to do is to sell in bundles, i try to put about 40 items in each bundle and make sure that all items can be seen in the pictures, for some reason a lot of it seems to be luck though, one of my friends sells loads of gorgeous clothes on e bay but she hardly makes a thing, let me know how you get on!!! p.s i find the best time for a auction to end is a saturday afternoon or a sunday night this seems to be the time that most people are sitting bidding on things

tortoiseLikesItNiceAndSlow · 12/02/2007 19:58

Do things sell better if i agree to sell worlwide instead of just uk? Is it worthwhile or a pain?

Listing some items now!

nikkie · 12/02/2007 20:15

I have just put some energy efficient bulbs on 'for sale' on here if anyone is interested I seem to have loads and they don't die!

nikkie · 12/02/2007 20:18

I have just sold my old tempramental camera for £3!

tortoiseLikesItNiceAndSlow · 12/02/2007 20:19

Ive got quite a few of them too nikkie!

Do you start bundles at 99p still? I don't really want a bundle of nice clothes selling for 99p!

cece · 12/02/2007 20:29

I am having no luck selling DS old baby clothes. I have listed as single items 99p with reasonable postage so no idea why they haven't sold

So still only made about £69

nikkie · 12/02/2007 20:35

Will depend what you are selling for 99p though as Asda tesco etc as so cheap for tiny baby clothes people may not bother with ebay for them?

tortoiseLikesItNiceAndSlow · 12/02/2007 20:42

Not really got good makes in baby clothes. Will just start at 99p. will loose all that in photos if they do sell!

cece · 12/02/2007 20:42

Next fleece jacket
3 long sleeve tops
Mothercare cardigan

that sort of thing
