Early Spring Clean : Anyone for a 400 pounds by Easter challenge?

Gameboy · 19/01/2007 13:44

Was listening to a radio programme the other day about making money from your old things and it made me realise how much stuff I've got 'waiting to go on eBay'.

Just wondered if anyone fancied a challenge to see how much we can each make from selling the unwanted stuff we have by Easter. I reckon I could get to about ?400 maybe?

We'd have to share our eBay names, and then keep a running total of everything we sell between now and 31st March?

For simplicity's sake I'd suggest we just tot up the totals invoiced (incl. P&P)rather than the net profit IYSWIM?
To include only unwanted items - not trading of new goods etc....

I thought if it became competitive it might spur me into action more !

I am still listing too

radcliffe · 04/02/2007 20:25

My dh says I'm getting addicted. Must be sad as I quite like it when there's a bit of a last minute bidding war.
Through items I've sold at work and on Amazon also am up to 130 quid or so. As have been doing it for just over a week am pretty pleased!

tortoise · 04/02/2007 20:28

I sold lots last night. Only because of my thread about having no money though.

Will add somemore stuff soon. Need to get these ones posted 1st.

Well done for good prices on the bears.

fannyannie · 04/02/2007 20:36

all other items of mine which finished today (3 of them) finished with no bids - oh well.

Got a bid on the football table YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - still got 20hrs left on that - I'll be VERY glad to get rid of it as it's in the way..but would like a little bit more than £10 for it

persephonesnape · 04/02/2007 21:09

bah! I made £74.50 in January once I'd paid fees and deducted paypal etc. I'm pretty sure that it's better than a kick in the bum, though. I want to make around £200 in February ( got my eye on a new fridge!)

please take a look! ladies clothing, my pals nokia ( I'll see about 10% of that i think) and a couple of paintings..this is the first time I've tried selling art on ebay - I will be surprised if i sell anything!

here!

nikkie · 04/02/2007 22:21

Tortoise, just class it as advertising
I have made £120 tonight woohoo !!!!! So am over £200 now, though the best stuff has gone, have rooted a bit and put some more stuff on and relisted stuff.

Gameboy · 05/02/2007 09:33

I'm up to about £80, but have lots more waiting to list.

Put on a black fireguard last night, but not too hopeful as it's collection only.
However I also found several boxes of old comics from the 1970s in our loft, and saw that they sell quite well on eBay, so might try those.

hi guys, shoes sold - have just over £50 in Paypal now. Listing more stuff at lunchtime today. then maybe through the week. Need to get my act together. Have also said on the debt free 2007 that I want to go no more than £1k overdrawn this month so will be using my paypal to try and keep my overdraft down!

This week I'm selling, perfume, picture frames and other such items.. all cheap though.. if I make £10 this week I'll be lucky I think - must make more time to list.

Doea anybody else find it very time consuming?

SNOWBall4girlz · 05/02/2007 12:46

hi there everyone
I have sold £56.01

refunded someone some postage,
refunded someone else whose item I lost but still in the black though just.
I find taking the pics very time consuming
I use turbo lister and getting the time down by simplifying the listings
saying that I have only one thing on at the mo lol.

with me it is making sure I keep things handy that I have listed
anybody else lost somethingbefore they could post it?
love ebay but it is not easy

(my perfume sold for over £20 !!)

Gameboy · 05/02/2007 12:59

SNowball you need to get 'eBay organised' to cut the time down.

Here's my approach, in case it helps:

  • try to have a shelf/ cupboard/box etc where you put things to be listed in the future (also keeps toys etc away from going back into 'general use')
  • do all the photos in one session, even if you don't have time to write up the listings at that point.
  • have another place where you keep eBay packaging stuff (reused from your own received items etc)
  • set yourself a period of time e.g. 1 hour to see how much you can get ready on Turbolister to upload later.

That said, I've only got one thing up at the moment too - oops!

arghhh - what part of "collection only" do people not understand - got the football table ending in just under 1hr and someone has just asked if I could Parcel Force it to them.......NO I CAN'T - wrong dimensions and they could buy a sodding new one for the same price !

And - - someone else asked a question about 10 minutes ago about same item "how heavy is it"

Now I've had a chance to wake up a bit more as I've been lying on the sofa all afternoon(ie had a coffee LOL) I've just realised how dreadful my answer was

"Hi, to be honest I really don't know and having work a night shift last night and not slept since I'm not sure I'd like to risk trying to stand on the scales with it to measure it. But to give you an idea, I'm a 5ft, petite, pregnant woman and I put the legs on and managed to turn it back over to photograph for the listing. Sorry can't be much more help."

cece · 05/02/2007 15:49

I am up to £68 now. Relisted some items last night and going to addd some girls clothes tomorrow evening

tortoise · 05/02/2007 15:55

Lol @ fannieAnnie!

I have 13 items to post. Have items ending sunday. Will list somemore before then to end next week sometime.

justbeme · 05/02/2007 16:33

Fannieannie - I cant believe some of the questions i got asked either!!
How much to ship a sewing machine to Italy springs to mind - (that put them off bidding!) and would I take £2 for a brand new bike post inc postage? - once i'd added Ebays commision/paypals commission/postage/brown paper/petrol to the post office etc ect I firmly answered No!
Might have a go at the turbolister you all keep mentioning. Found some more bits today - mind you I seem to spend a bit of time looking at similar items for sale as well - so i know how to pitch the price -

fannyannie · 05/02/2007 16:51

well I'm gutted - I had 5 watchers and 219 views of the bureau and it didn't get a single bid - right off down to Morrisons tomorrow to stick an ad on the board there LOL.

fannyannie · 05/02/2007 16:53

mind you the football table has been sold - for a whopping £12.50.....was hoping for a bit more but I'll have SPACE at the top of my landing again - right I suppose I'd better give it a proper clean before arranging the time/day they're going to pick it up - I clean the bits that could be seen on the photo and left the rest

nikkie · 05/02/2007 19:55

I have a double duvet/curtains set ending in 5 mins at 1.70 and a pilates stretch band (no idea of size, tension etc) ending in an hour £4 WTF?????

Gameboy · 05/02/2007 21:52

Just had +ve feedback from one of my buyers but it says "a little delay in posting, but good otherwise..."
WTF? It ended on a Sat. He paid on Sunday and I posted first thing Thursday....
Is that really THAT bad? I kinda assume within 3-4 days is OK, 'cos I don't go to the post office everyday!

OP posts:
FatFikAndFugly · 06/02/2007 09:43

hmmm, I try and get things out the day after payment. I probably would warn them if it wasn't going to be posted for a few days.. they gave you positive feedback so I wouldn't worry about it.

I have watchers on all 4 items I have listed at the minute but they're all on for £1.50ish. will list some more stuff later in the week
