The stuff that sold for the best prices was the coats and jackets, including evening wear. I also listed some suits and vintage stuff which sold well. All the clothes were size 16-18, suitable for someone about 5'10", and I find that nice clothes in larger sizes sell really well. Labels included Ghost, Monsoon Twilight, Gudrun Sjodern, and Boden and well as Country Casuals, Next, Long Tall Sally and Per Una. Vintage labels included Droopy and Brown, Carnegie of London and Laura Ashley.
I make a big point of cross-selling - many customers buy or bid for more than one of my items, probably because my clothes are suitable for a Voluptuous Goddess non-standard sized person! I also list all the garment's measurements
in cm and inches - widths AND lengths, which is really important for us tall birds,
and I take at least 2 pictures of everything.
I think it's important not to place too many restrictions on bidders, it's offputting to read loads of moans about previous non-payers and who can and can't bid on items and announcements that returns will not be accepted,so wherever possible I just adjust my buyer requirements accordingly and negotiate with bidders direct if they email me with requests or queries. I'm willing to sell overseas, but ask that people email me for a quote prior to bidding - it doesn't take long using the Royal Mail online price-finder service. I sold a vintage jacket for £75 to someone in Sweden, so it's important to keep your customer base as broad as possible.
I'm planning on selling a load of DS's clothes next - he is 15 and has had a massive growth spurt over the last 18 months, from 5'4" to 6'1" (and still growing!). I've already sold a 3 piece suit (for more than I originally paid on eBay
) that he wore to a couple of weddings, and a lovely leather jacket, but have a lot of Maharishi clobber (size S ) with the dragon embroidery which is far too small for him.
