Hello all, loved reading this thread and the last one. I sell on eBay every now and again and constantly surprised at what sells and what doesn't. Didn't know about used perfumes, that's interesting, but echo what others have said about mini samples etc. I used to have a stack of Clinique bonus time stuff which I grouped into like sized bundles (like 3 of the same moisturisers) and they all sell really well, and the p&p isn't too bad.

My one piece of advice is to buy some postage bags off eBay - a multipack of different sizes. The grey, robust, tamper proof ones About 20 costs about £4 and they are so easy to use and saves having to faff about patching up old jiffy bags and cover over old addresses etc. no Sellotape needed either!

I'm currently 30 weeks preg with dc2 so but knackered to contemplate organising listing anything at the mo, but I have a stash of stuff to list when I get some time - perhaps when I start maternity leave and dd is at nursery?

So I'll enjoy reading your spoils for the time being. Good luck all! Smile

Tortoise · 14/04/2012 17:42

SleepyFergus I buy pink bags off Ebay. Prefer them to grey. Also hope that pink less likely to get lost and not blend in with all the other parcels lol.

Lost 2 watchers on DS2s bmx. Back down to 1 Sad. Listed it a few times now. Will just have to relist again if doesn't sell in few days time!

Oooh, pink bags you say....may try them next time!!

mogs0 · 14/04/2012 18:25

Ds and I have been away for a couple of nights with no internet connection Shock. just got back and had 10 messages from ebayers enquiring about my dad's tent that is listed. It has 56 watchers!! It's attracting so much attention that I almost want to make him an offer myself Grin.

I've got bids on a couple of my other items and just deciding whether I have the energy to list anything tonight.

Ds and I are off camping tomorrow for three nights so I should be concentrating on unpacking from the last two day and replacing for tomorrow but I'm sure I could squeeze in a couple of auctions inbetween!

carrotsandcelery · 14/04/2012 18:28

I had pink bags for a while too and they made me smile. I am back to boring grey now because they were cheaper but I miss the pink ones.

I have scheduled another batch of clothes for tomorrow night.

I still only have one bid so expect to have a lot for sale next week. Sad

rebecklet · 14/04/2012 18:41

Love the pink bags idea and the new thread! I was buying up stamps from Superdrug for the 5% discount to counteract the postal increases at the end of the month. Now the offer has finished I have bought some of the fun stamps (Beano, UK landmarks, Olympics etc) from the Post office to use as well.

Since I switched to using stamps instead of the printed stamp with the actual cost on from the post office I haven't had any complaints about price from the silly ebayers who expect P&P to be the cost of stamps and nothing else! I don't think they take the time to count the stamps, especially when they aren't the usual Queen's head stamps :)

40 listings so far today for me, I better get cracking on the rest!

Tortoise · 14/04/2012 18:41

I use o.d.l.packaging. Don't think their pink ones cost any more than grey. And its free postage.Smile

I do love those polythene mailers, but I have such a massive box to re-use I'm still working my way through those.

Anyway, I did my car boot sale this morning (5.30am start - oof!) which cleared out a lot of tat, but I spotted a few bits on the table at the last minute that were too good for car-booting and put them aside for eBay - one was a Steiff teddy bear (I do not want to let that go for 50p Grin).

16 items finishing Monday, but only one item bid. A few watchers for my Light Saber at least.

I've just spent a couple of hours listing all the Pippa Doll clothes; they seem to fetch a lot, so it was worth listing outfit by outfit. At least they will be easy to post!!

I do love a free listing weekend.

up to about £28 on the clothes. Might help if I added a picture to the one top!

Sold the children's wardrobe for £30 +£5 delivery so that's gone thank goodness.

PurpleFrog · 14/04/2012 20:31

Count me in for the new challenge - but I don't think I 'll reach the £300 mark this time!

I got back from my holiday this afternoon. I was going to take the rest of this weekend easy, now I find it is yet another Free Listing Weekend ! Shock Bah! Unfortunately the items from last weekend are mainly on until Tuesday, so I can't just do re-lists.

I had a Nintendo game finishing last Wednesday and managed to find free Wi-Fi (in a Macdonalds Blush) to check if it had sold. It hadn't, but I did find that I had a bid on a bundle of magazines for collection only that I have been trying to sell since Christmas, first on Gumtree then eBay. Yeah! Grin

I also had an e-mail waiting for me when I got home enquiring about a pair of walking boots I am selling on Gumtree. Grin So at least things are moving in the right direction....

Tortoise · 14/04/2012 21:01

Really disappointed. My old Amstrad had 7 watchers and it ended with no bids Sad. 2 items sold so far tonight for tiny amounts!
I will try and list a few bits tomorrow. Lacking enthusiasm after tonight result!

I am hoping next week will be better Tortoise once everyone is back from their holidays.

jardy · 14/04/2012 21:44

Hi to all the familiar faces, upto nearly £50.Good Luck to everyone x

dizzyday07 · 14/04/2012 22:52

One of DH's has 4 bids (up to £10.60) and has 18 watchers :o

Only got round to listing a BN Moshi Monsters jigsaw and Soap & Glory Big Splendour Vanity case today.

I have some of DD's clothes to list but they can go on anytime as I'll list at 99p.

LapsedPacifist · 14/04/2012 23:08

Hi everyone, I listed 60 items of clothing (mostly mine, and a couple of jackets belonging to DH and DS) during last month's free listing weekend and have made (gulp! Blush) over £700! I haven't worked out how much I'll have to pay in eBay and PayPal charges yet Hmm.

I still have quite a lot of stuff to sell (we are having a massive de-clutter) which I didn't have time to list last time. Does anyone know when the next free listing weekend is coming up please?

carrotsandcelery · 14/04/2012 23:11

There is one this weekend Lapsed.

Lapsed: wow! I am in awe...

I have listed five items this evening & will be putting bigger items on tomorrow including a piano & ....my car! Car (Renault Megane) has unfortunately just had a £660 MOT bill for a car worth £900. So it needs to go, would be happy with anything for it tbh. Figuring it should be worth something to a mechanic for parts etc

Can someone please explain how to do the linky thing? My apologies I'm rubbish with technology!

carrotsandcelery · 15/04/2012 09:29

For links, go to the page on which your items are displayed. In the top left corner of the page there should be a web address (here there is the mumsnet logo and then www.mumsnet...) Take your cursor to that section and left click on it. It should go blue. The left click and you should get a list which involves the option "copy". Scroll down and click on "copy". Then come back to this page, do double and then left click and you should have the list again with the option to "paste" then write something like "my listings" and close with

It sounds much trickier than it actually is.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 15/04/2012 10:15

lapsed - I'm very impressed! My 61 items are up to £213 so far and all end tonight so I'm gled to the computer atm Blush

dizzyday have you got a link to you moshi mopnsters puzzle? My ds's would love one!

carrotsandcelery · 15/04/2012 10:20

Iwish what were you listing that made so much money?

I thought the same about the moshi jigsaw. I am trying not to look Grin

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 15/04/2012 10:30

I've got 3 pushchairs (one still without a bid), a cot, a crib, a bumbo, a baby bjorn carrier and loads of other baby stuff on aswell as a load of unused photo frames and photo albums and some other random bits!

Have a look!

We're at the start of a clearout!

dizzyday07 · 15/04/2012 10:44

Moshi Jigsaw

It's never been out the box as my DD got 2 for her birthday.

LapsedPacifist · 15/04/2012 11:39

The stuff that sold for the best prices was the coats and jackets, including evening wear. I also listed some suits and vintage stuff which sold well. All the clothes were size 16-18, suitable for someone about 5'10", and I find that nice clothes in larger sizes sell really well. Labels included Ghost, Monsoon Twilight, Gudrun Sjodern, and Boden and well as Country Casuals, Next, Long Tall Sally and Per Una. Vintage labels included Droopy and Brown, Carnegie of London and Laura Ashley.

I make a big point of cross-selling - many customers buy or bid for more than one of my items, probably because my clothes are suitable for a Voluptuous Goddess non-standard sized person! I also list all the garment's measurements
in cm and inches - widths AND lengths, which is really important for us tall birds,
and I take at least 2 pictures of everything.

I think it's important not to place too many restrictions on bidders, it's offputting to read loads of moans about previous non-payers and who can and can't bid on items and announcements that returns will not be accepted,so wherever possible I just adjust my buyer requirements accordingly and negotiate with bidders direct if they email me with requests or queries. I'm willing to sell overseas, but ask that people email me for a quote prior to bidding - it doesn't take long using the Royal Mail online price-finder service. I sold a vintage jacket for £75 to someone in Sweden, so it's important to keep your customer base as broad as possible.

I'm planning on selling a load of DS's clothes next - he is 15 and has had a massive growth spurt over the last 18 months, from 5'4" to 6'1" (and still growing!). I've already sold a 3 piece suit (for more than I originally paid on eBay Smile ) that he wore to a couple of weddings, and a lovely leather jacket, but have a lot of Maharishi clobber (size S ) with the dragon embroidery which is far too small for him.
