DG - what have you got listed? I'll take a look if that would help?

Tobermory · 13/11/2010 15:25

I've not been back here for a while but was doing really well. Posted a couple of pieces of furniture which went for good prices, had made nearly £350.... but I've nearly spent it all! Shock

In my defense, £150 went on getting DD2 room replastered, ?50 waiting for the the snunkie bill, £25 on photobox, £30 left ... The rest on clothes for DDs.
So have some stuff listed and wondering how much I can make before Xmas.

mogs0 · 13/11/2010 15:35

DG - toys are definitely selling!

I currently have clothes, shoes, bags and toys on. 13 out of 15 items have bids on and I'm fairly confident the other 2 will get bids before the auction end.

It is often a bit hit and miss though. I have a shrug on at the moment that I have worn once but I couldn't quite bring myself to get rid of it even though I knew I'd never wear it again. It's been on twice over the last couple of years at 99p with no bids or watchers. I decided that it would get one last chance before going to the charity shop and I've just been offered £20 for it Shock! Unfortunately, someone has already placed a bid so I'll have to see how the bidding goes on that one.

Ds and I are going through the Playmobil later and going to list some of that. He's already decided his castle can go - will take hours to find all the bits that go with it. Also, the campervan is going and will take as long too find the bits to go with that too. I saw an advert for the PM house earlier and, stupidly, showed it to ds who has asked if I'll goes halves with him and buy it after Christmas! Any money/space gained as a result of current ebaying/de-cluttering has just gone out of the window Grin.

Dumbledoresgirl · 13/11/2010 17:25

These are my current listings

Don't rip them to shreds though. The prices are higher than normal (in some cases) because last weekend was a free listing and I am fed up with nearly new clothing going for 99p.

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 13/11/2010 17:31

Mogs I am looking for playmobil for my DD1 and DD2. Smile

I have sorted out all the my little pony bits but not sure whether to list them this week or wait and see if next weekend is free listing.

mogs0 · 13/11/2010 17:46

Tort - the campervan is vintage and was bought off ebay with some random accessories - I'm not sure if they all belonged with it originally but I'll check it out when I've gathered some of the bits. I can forward a pic to you if you like. The castle we've had since new and I'm quite sure that all the bits are around the place I just need to locate them all! I'll let you know if ds decides to part with any other bits of his collection!

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 13/11/2010 18:09

Thanks Mogs. Smile DD's probably wouldn't want the castle but may like the camper van.

mogs0 · 13/11/2010 20:10

That's good because ds has just fallen in love with the castle again, now that it is fully assembled Hmm.

The camper, however, seems to have about a billion pieces so far (including 2 mums, a dad and about 6 children!). I'll have a look online to see what it should have and which bits belong to other sets.

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 13/11/2010 20:26

Is it the same as this?

mogs0 · 13/11/2010 21:10

Yes, that's the one.

armani · 13/11/2010 21:29

hi fellow mumsnetters! hope you dont mind me joining this thread. but ive had a clear out and have been listing some items, hoping to make some cash for christmas!

what do you think?

my items

hope my link works!

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 13/11/2010 22:17

armani Your items look good. I would Rotate the pics though! Smile

mogs0 · 13/11/2010 22:20

Lovely clothes! I'm watching the white all-in-one. I really shouldn't open links in this thread because I often end up bidding Grin.

Well, 6 of my items just ended all with bids and sold for the grand total of £10.75 Grin. I'm happy with that as they were really small things.

I've got another 10 things finishing over the next few days and am pleased with the price they're at already so would be a bonus if they got a few more bids before the end!

armani · 14/11/2010 00:03

wow im impressed thats my first ever link :)

thankyou gruesome and mogs!
gruesome how do i rotate the pics?
thanks mogs, i am really quite sad to be getting rid of the tiny bits lol, but they have to go!

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 14/11/2010 09:55

You can rotate in your files or when you put them in the ebay picture uploader. Smile

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 14/11/2010 10:32

DG - OK, had a look at your listings and TBH I don't think there's much you could improve, just a few tweaks - it's probably just that clothes aren't selling at the moment compared to toys and gifts etc. But here's my tuppence worth anyway:

Children's books - I've never managed to sell used books when listed individually unless it's a huge encyclopedia or annual - have you considered doing a bundle of the Kipper books and starting with a higher price? Also, I think as they are used you need a picture of the actual book rather than a stock photo, and give a little more detail on the condition by pointing out for example that there are no scribbles on it or ripped pages etc. And check your P&P cost for the individual books - if they are slim enough they could probably go as a 1st or 2nd class large letter and you can bring that down.

Clothes - fill in ALL of the item specific details - colours, material, brand, length etc as this is what people use to search. The 2 piece dress and jacket I think needs a photo of both items plus 1 of them together.

And the only other thing I'd say is that your stating prices are a bit too high, but you knew I was going to say that though I understand why you don't want things to go for 99p - maybe you could bundle some in the same size or accept that they either won't sell or not until after Christmas.

I've taken a while to accept that if something only sells for 99p after weeks of re-listing then that's all it's worth (on ebay anyway), and the competition on clothing is high.

Hope that's helpful x

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/11/2010 12:32

Thanks dinosaur, I appreciate the time you took to look through and your comments.

I agree that maybe clothing isn't anyone's top priority right now. I only listed stuff because it was free listing weekend and I had nothing to lose. I will just leave them if they don't sell and try again next free listing weekend. There are some watchers though, so maybe a last minute bid?

Re the books, I do sell books as singles, but I agree it is more likely to sell if you make a bundle of books. And yes, I do have photos of the actual books but ebay offer you the pic of the book and it is so much quicker and easier to use theirs than upload mine Blush Ditto things like the flippers and bike seat. But yes, I would be reluctant to buy a secondhand item without seeing the actual item instead of a stock photo. So it seems I need to do a little more work.

I haven't done anything about photographing or listing the toys/games I sorted this week. I am feeling a bit "ebayed out" right now. Maybe I will perk up again later this week and put them on a 3 or 5 day auction.

Thanks again for your comments. I will act on them Smile

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 14/11/2010 13:15

NP Dumbledoresgirl, I totally get the 'all ebayed out' thing. Trouble is all of our stuff is in the spare room which we need for visitors at Christmas - the bed is covered with the things listed, the ensuite full of stuff to be listed and the floor and every other available space is covered in boxes, bubble wrap, envelopes etc so we are determined to get everything at least listed before Christmas! Hopefully we'll only be left with a small carrier full of items that haven't sold :)

Also agree with you about the stock photo's - I've done that as it's the easy option, but when they weren't selling I changed them to the actual photo and sold 90% of them, so I figured it was the way to go.

Good luck with the rest of your toys and things, I'm busy listing 50 DVD's for tonight right now and very bored!

My stuff can be seen here

Dumbledoresgirl · 14/11/2010 15:21

It helps that you've got a nice laminate floor on which to photograph your things. Our floors are all tatty, foul swirly carpets or bare, stained concrete! Floor coverings is one of the (many) things I am trying to make money for!

I am feeling a little brighter now. My Jaeger skirt has been bid on (£5) and I have just bought a desk for my son to do his homework on for £5.50! So, having bought a bargain, I feel less bad that I can't make a fortune. Wink

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 14/11/2010 16:33

I have added some necklaces to turbo lister to upload later. Very hard to get good pics of necklaces! And i don't know what to say about them lol! Loads more stuff to sort out but just can't be bothered!!

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 14/11/2010 16:59

Dumbledoresgirl - how about using a plain white sheet or blanket as your background for all your photos - that's what we used to do.
Great news on the skirt and your desk bargain - maybe the tide is turning for you :)

blametheparents · 14/11/2010 20:54

Yay - My ebay balance, after fees, is £310
What shall I buy? Smile

Tobermory · 14/11/2010 21:09

Blametheparents, give me 5 minutes I could spend it for you!

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 14/11/2010 21:19

Bloody turbo lister. Angry
I have added 15 items but when i try to upload them it says items specifics condition must be filled in. Well, it is on all of them but it still won't let me upload. Angry What a waste of time.

iisbigmomma · 14/11/2010 21:21
