Bear where are you up to? I’m struggling to keep up with everything-has ivf started?

Kwick so happy things are finally starting up again for you

Tww advice definitely booked as much things to do as possible. Don’t book anytime off work-this is more torturous, weekends make sure you have plans- I found this the absolute worst time to deal with

Good luck everyone xx

Bear1980 · 04/11/2017 08:33

Good luck today london.

pickle I got my meds delivered this week and start the northisterone tablets next Friday for 7 days. Still a few weeks from starting injections but at least it feels like things are moving now 😀

Latenightreader · 04/11/2017 14:23

Argh, the reply I wrote on Monday evening doesn't seem to have posted. I'll have to try to remember what I said... I started by thanking people but I now need to go back and reread!

It went fine in the end. I was pretty sure that I had been booked for a non-sedated transfer, but I was scared that the nurse had changed the booking without checking with the doctor who had initially recommended the sedation. It was a different doctor who performed the FET, which also helped shift my conviction that the first Dr was the only one who could find her way in! I test next Saturday. Felt very periody yesterday but less so today.

I'm on hormone patches, lubion injections (so expensive!), cyclogest and metformin. I was prescribed prontogest at first and then gestone, but the pharmacy couldn't order either of them, but lubion is probably better as although it is daily is it subcutaneous rather than intramuscular. Anyone else on this combo?

Thank you so much for your nice thoughts and reassurances. I read them while I was waiting in the clinic and they really helped.

Latenightreader · 04/11/2017 14:31

Frank I am also in Manchester - I wonder whether you are using the same clinic as me! I had four unmedicated IUIs before switching to IVF earlier this year.

kwick · 04/11/2017 15:28

@Latenightreader so glad it went well.
Hormone patches - bloody hell why can’t all the meds be like that?!
How comes you are on metformin? I have been on it due to my PCOS/general fatness - but I never heard someone going on it after a FET.

Hope everyone is having an amazeballs weekend!

OP posts:
Latenightreader · 04/11/2017 15:34

The metformin is supposed to help regulate oestrogen according to the Dr, but I've only come across it used by people with PCOS. I think it was because I was on the edge of hyperstimulation with my first IVF cycle. I have my notes from the consultation somewhere!

kwick · 04/11/2017 17:17

Interesting... I feel a bit like the clinic in Alicante only know me by email - but do have all my previous FC notes.

Hi again,

Well the iui went really well this time. Quick & painless. Just on progesterone pessaries now for the two week wait .

late I’m in two clinics in Manchester, the one where I have my scans etc isn’t licensed for donor stuff so I go to one in Cheadle Just for the actual IUI bit.

Thanks for all the tips, I got some pineapple & have been keeping cosy in my thick socks all day.

Unfortunately my plan of a stress free 2 weeks went out the window when my car broke down on the way back & now looks like it needs a new gear box which is ££££ 😩 Definitely not ideal timing but that’s life I guess.

Hope everyone is having a fab weekend!

Latenightreader · 04/11/2017 18:58

I'm in Cheadle for everything - they've mostly been great and the nurses are lovely. Glad the iui went well.

StorkAhoy · 04/11/2017 19:11

kwick · 04/11/2017 22:01

Hi all,
I'm new to mumsnet and am about to start a DE IVF cycle in Greece in the new year. I'm 39 at the moment but 40 is fast approaching. I have had 3 goes at IVF...1st - got 2 eggs both fertilised, one normally and was put back at day three- BFN. Then 2 more cycles cancelled due to a poor response to the meds and only 1 follicle. So that brings me to DE cycle. I would really love to hear your stories both positive and not so much...especially if you had DE IVF abroad as I'm trying to be sensible, realistic and hopeful all at the same time and finding it hard.
Mandy x

pickle162 · 05/11/2017 12:34

Bear glad things are nearly there to start :)

Welcome Mandy you have come to the right place for support :) stork,Ever have recently had double donor treatment and Kwick isn’t far off having first try on DE/DS either so sure they will be able to offer lots of advice

Late glad went ok, apart from the car 😫

pickle162 · 05/11/2017 12:34

Stork so so sorry my lovely x

Munrowalker · 05/11/2017 13:10

So sorry stork. Sending love your way.

Welcome Mandy. You're def in the right place for support and general chat. Lots of us on different paths but there is a combined knowledge bank which is pretty immense!

Good news on the easy iui Late. Bummer about the car. Stupid cars are so expensive! And always when u least expect it!

Fingers crossed for a sticky one wish. Take care of yourself.

Mandy002 · 05/11/2017 16:11

Thanks guys, any advice/experiences people want to share would be greatly appreciated.

Mandy002 · 05/11/2017 16:56

I know I’m new to this but just wanted to say I’m so sorry about your news stork.

LondonGirl80 · 05/11/2017 18:09

So, transfer all went brilliantly yesterday. Turned out that it was really nice to have my mum there.

And I got off to the wedding after just fine. Am sure it’s good to have been laughing my head off at the best man’s speech & enjoying some of my friends’ ridiculous dancing!

Am a bit sorry that only two of the embryos developed enough - but it means that I’ve got one in the freezer for another try. Am I just being a bit silly to fret?

Thanks kwick, Pickle, bear everyone for wishing me luck!

Wish - what wonderful news! Am so pleased, especially given what happened. Crossing everything for you x*

So glad the FET went well, late - especially given how worried you were.

Rubbish about the car, Frank, but so glad the iui went well. Try not to let it stress you out too much.

Stork - I am so sorry. I hope you’re looking after yourself and getting some downtime. Big hugs. I have no words of wisdom I’m afraid x

Welcome Mandy! I’m not your gal but others on here will be full of tips.

Somewherethatsgreen · 05/11/2017 19:38

Hi - I am new to this and was hoping to ask you all some questions if that's ok?

I am in my early 30s and am planning on going it alone, but for career reasons can't do so for another 3-4 years. So far I have looked into sperm donation and cost of this plus IUI and get the impression that roughly £1500/£2000 per cycle are what's needed? Now I have no reason to suspect that I have any fertility problems, but have also never tried to get pregnant and will of course be nearing things becoming trickier age wise, so as vague as a question as this is: How quickly do people normally become pregnant using IUI? Are the odds higher than with well-timed intercourse?

I have a reasonable amount of savings and while I will still be very junior, will be in a good stable career with quickly increasing earnings. Childcare will be a nightmare as I will work long and ever changing shifts, but I will figure it out. Don't own property, but even assuming (at above guesstimated costs) that it would take a while to conceive, I would have enough for a deposit for a decent home. I have no family support in the UK and will likely have to relocate a few times meaning moving away from friends, so that is a worry.

Any pros or cons vs using clinic in UK or abroad? Any sperm donor search dos or don'ts? Any other advice?

Thank you! :)

Mandy002 · 05/11/2017 20:19

Hi somewhere that’s green not sure if this is any help but generally clinics abroad are MUCH cheaper but also anonymous so there would be 0 chance of the child finding out who their biological father is. Depending on how you feel about that it could be the cheaper option. I’m about to do a cycle of DE abroad but had my IVF here wanting to be close to friends and family. Hope that helps.

Somewherethatsgreen · 05/11/2017 20:42

Thanks Mandy. That's interesting; I thought you could order the donor sperm to essentially any clinic anywhere and just make sure you go with a non-anonymous donor? I think for me it would be very important that my child could find out about their biological father if they so wish at some point.

Wishing you all the luck for your upcoming cycle! Incredibly exciting!

Mandy002 · 05/11/2017 20:53

Somewherethatsgreen im sure there are probably some countries where you can choose to have a known donor. In the UK they have to be known but in Greece where I’m headed it’s all very anonymous which I believe is why some countries have a lot more people willing to donate than others. Tbh the goal for me is to become a mum and as I’m going it alone I need to make sure I don’t financially break myself to do it and DE in the UK is sooooo much more expensive than abroad and has a much longer waiting list.

Somewherethatsgreen · 05/11/2017 20:56

Yeah that makes sense. Could I ask how much (roughly) you are being charged in Greece vs UK? (Also, sorry to be thick, but what does DE stand for?).

Mandy002 · 05/11/2017 21:38

It stands for donor egg. When I looked at the uk it was 6k with a known donor (one you source yourself) so on top of that would be price of egg and sperme. Greece is about 5k including both donors.
