Yeah it's been a long day, I spent the rest of the day car shopping and then taking my nephew to the park just sat down now.

I have another ovitrelle shot to take I think a week after IUI for luteal phase support, to be honest I wasn't expecting that but will go with it. Also means I can't do first response because the hog hormone from ovitrelle might still be in my system. They will give me a date for blood test. Have you got something? She says I have to be there for 12 so IUI might be slightly later.

It's so weird how the three of us have all ended up almost the same day, exciting too. This is going to be a long weekend haha

pickle162 · 12/05/2017 18:15

I have pregnyl day 3& 8 post iui which is why I can't test for 18days as would show a false positive
I know it's so weird but so lovely

I have nice things this weekend for distraction but also rest time allocated too

PhoenixMama · 12/05/2017 19:11

How exciting ladies! My clinic does iui 24 hours after a positive test so I will most likely be Sunday unless something unexpected happens (which we all know could be the case!)

Feels slightly unfair that I came on after you & get to go before you but bodies are a weird thing. Properly nervous now!

pickle162 · 12/05/2017 19:28

My usual lh surge is always around cd 14 and I'm only on 11 so tue or wed would have been my iui if I was doing au naturale (& if my cycle was behaving which it hadn't been) so I'm still a little ahead of myself :) so it's all good Phoenix, you can just try it out for us first :)

Bear1980 · 12/05/2017 19:40

Yeah keep us updated with what the procedure is like phoenix, I am expecting something like the Hycosy test. They told me not to wear anything strong smelling any idea why that would be?

pickle162 · 12/05/2017 19:42

Yeh ditto-no perfume or make up. It's because it's done in a theatre so like normal operations. You're in a gown rather than normal clothes. Just keeps it all as sterile as possible

PhoenixMama · 12/05/2017 19:45

Ooooh I haven't been told that (yet) but you guys have far more exposure to your clinic than I have really!

pickle162 · 12/05/2017 20:02

It may be different abroad than uk rules. Hopefully when you ring up they will give you some info Smile

PaisleyBE · 12/05/2017 20:25

Wow, I had no idea that it is usually done so "medical". It does make sense, though. Mine felt more like a normal visit at the gyn, i just wore a dress, plus I was given a blanket to cover myself while waiting. For the insemination itself the nurse put the table in a higher position for better access. I think that the environment helped me to feel relaxed. I suppose I wouldn't be laughing out loud in the hospital theatre.
All in all, no matter how it's done, as long as the result comes in 9 months. Smile

StorkAhoy · 12/05/2017 20:38

Hello! Oh guys how exciting for you. Best of luck, seriously!

Re the perfume/lotion, I was told by my doctors during my ivf that the scents/parfum used in those products can be harmful to the embryos so maybe it's the same with sperm?

pickle162 · 12/05/2017 20:57

Yeh in 'it starts with the egg' it recommends you stop using anything perfumed because of a chemical it contains (can't remember what) that can impact on how your eggs develop but seriously if you did everything in that book you would like in a bubble....but a non plastic version as plastics are a no no too
My scans have been like that paisley just a paper cloth over faj area. TBH I just close my eyes as the probe had gone in-more so I couldn't see them looking at my hooha, once it was in and we were focusing on the screen I was fine to open them

So question for all you non iui virgins how does it work?? Do they literally just use a speculum thingy to 'open' you up more and stick the catheter in or does it have a camera on the end so they know exactly where it's going? Surely everyone's cervix isn't in the same place so how do they know where is it???

PhoenixMama · 12/05/2017 21:01

Pickle I'm crying at "open you up" Wink

pickle162 · 12/05/2017 21:12

Does sound like a scene for alien but I didn't know how to say it 😂

PaisleyBE · 12/05/2017 21:23

Oh yes, speculum was most certainly present. She had to wiggle a bit there, too, since she needed to see where and how to place the catheter or whatever is that thing called. Not the most pleasant moment of my life, but my spirits were flying high plus there was lovely music in the background (Somewhere Over the Rainbow at exactly that moment).

pickle162 · 12/05/2017 21:33

Wow! That's my song I always think of my Nanna with, love it. How special :)
Hopefully they'll be a nurse that I like to distract me

Pez82 · 12/05/2017 22:04

Sometimes they scan you externally while doing the IUI so they can aim better 😊. I even got a picture in a couple of occasions. However it is really tough on the bladder when they do that!

I would think that they don't want any strong smells in the same theatre they use for ivf as eggs are very vulnerable to soaps and scents.

So great there are so many of you running together this month. I expect a lot of BFPs on the thread over the next 2 weeks!!!

PhoenixMama · 13/05/2017 06:01

Freaking out. Just got up for a wee. Thought I'd do an opk - fmu and all that. THREE tests didn't work! All of them said there was an error. This is with 3 different holders. 2 purple & 1 pink. Wtf??? I do NOT need this today! Angry

Bear1980 · 13/05/2017 07:13

What error is it showing phoenix is it the same thing each time?

Bear1980 · 13/05/2017 07:16

I haven't minded the scans too much, they just kind of feel there way with the scanner so don't feel too exposed. I didn't enjoy th hycosy cause they were right up in there Blush.

The bit I am dreading is the fact you need to have a full bladder I want to be able to relax but think that will stres me out

Pez82 · 13/05/2017 07:58

Bear, the IUI is similar to the hycosy but not as bad as the catheter they use is much thinner. You might have a couple of nurses around you besides the consultant and yes you might feel 'exposed'. I just talked myself into the fact they do this day in and day and probably don't even look, they just make sure they can insert the catheter on the first go and this is like a 1 second pain.
If the speculum is too tight you can tell them and they relax it a bit. It is a 5min job and then you'll be good to home and relax.

Phoenix, please don't panic! Maybe you dipped the tests for too long this morning? I used to count to 15 and take them out.
Only the purple test should be used with FMU. The pink ones work as traditional opks and should be used later during the day to keep your body time to synthetise the hormone. They will work next time don't worry. Maybe hold your wee on your way to the airport?

CherryBlossom100 · 13/05/2017 10:00

Thanks for remembering pickle. Scan went really well. Baby is healthy and feeling better now that I'm 13 weeks. Only symptom now is tiredness. Also have a massive belly and people at work have started asking if I'm preggo. Still weigh the same as week 5 though when I put loads of water weight on.
Any guesses on boy or girl for the scan pic? Can't wait to find out.
Good luck to those having their iui on Monday!

Oh! The mention of hycosy makes me remember something that might be useful. Not to most people on here, but I think there are a couple of people who might be early enough?

Hycosy is quite a painful procedure. Because I was referred for recurrent miscarriage testing on the NHS, I was given (for free) something else called a hysteriosalpingogram (trying spelling that out on the phone for the receptionists! Grin). It's almost totally painless - there's just a speculum, like a smear test, and nothing else. I think the machine must be very expensive and that's why private clinics don't do them. But my clinic was perfectly happy to accept the results of that test, instead of the hycosy.

So: if you are coming into this and might possibly be eligible for NHS testing, it's really worth doing. It might even be worth finding out how much this other test would cost to do privately, and if that's an option.

I'm mentioning this because I know some people really find the hycosy hard to tolerate and I wouldn't have known there was a painless alternative.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/05/2017 10:05

Oh, wow! Cross posted with you cherry. How lovely. Smile

pickle162 · 13/05/2017 10:38
