There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

  2. Which team(s) you loathe.
  3. How you are getting your kids to follow the correct team.
  1. A thought on the season so far (Premiership/Championship/Champions? League/FA Cup/League Cup/(el clasico?)/World Cup bids.

Oh Danny Boy
The goal, the goal is ca-alling...

Supporting England must a bit like it used to be like supporting Citeh. At any time they can rescue defeat from..

BelfastBloke · 16/06/2012 00:42

Great goal by welbeck.

great play by Theo

Well I went to a charity dinner and missed the WHOLE bloody game! All of it!

Pan · 16/06/2012 00:54

Charity dinner for the sake of England central defence? Because they give away enough already....

CurrySpice · 16/06/2012 04:40

BB Holland and Germany would never come to any agreement, unspoken or otherwise, because they detest each other. Did you see the German press in the run up to the game?!?!

Very happy about the England result, if not the style of the victory

BelfastBloke · 16/06/2012 09:15

Curry, I said Germany and Denmark, not Holland. Germany and Denmark are playing each other, and could agree to shut the others out.

Those were remarkable goals by England.

Who does Woy select for the next game?

  1. Welbeck, Rooney and Young, who all play together for ManUre?
  2. Welbeck, Rooney and Walcott + The Ox, because Young had a shocking game against Sweden and should be dropped for form players?
  3. Welbeck and Carroll with Rooney behind?
OP posts:
Pan · 16/06/2012 14:27

I'd worry more about who exactly is going to stop them leaking in at the other end.
fwiw I think having Rooney, Carroll and Welbeck on the same team, on the same pitch, at the same time, would give Roy a nose bleed.

BelfastBloke · 16/06/2012 15:26

Your pics are tiny. Don't worry, size doesn't matter.

Never looked at your profile before. How can you forget the name of one of your favourite books? WTF is 47 Charing Cross Road?

OP posts:
Pan · 16/06/2012 15:52

no. 47 is the bakers - it's just across the road and down the street from the bookshop at no 84. (don't think anyone noticed that, )

I can't fiddle with the re-sizing thing. The old stadium was 100,000 capacity, and was there when I opened the hotel curtains in the morning after arriving in Kiev in the dark. It being Soviet times, it was a public amenity, so I got into my kit and raced down and into the stadium, only to share the track with a CCCP sprint squad. I had "Adidas" on my back, they all had the CCCP thing. . But it was a weird, surreal and fun hour - I was v young and v fit but still got hammered by them.

and here it is now..

Pan · 16/06/2012 23:07

just musing on the potential impacts of Gary Neville on the happy little band of players that are in Poland, and the linking job he is likely to be doing between them and RH.

Pan · 16/06/2012 23:23

and whilst I am pointlessly musing...YOYOY is ITV using the music of "Peter" from Prokofievs Peter and the Wolf, which is a little violin riff all light and airy, but ITV use a dirgeful french horn ( I think) to introduce stuff. Weird.

BelfastBloke · 17/06/2012 06:02

YOYOY?

Pan · 17/06/2012 12:46

Take a wild guess??

BelfastBloke · 17/06/2012 23:23

Ah. We're on the internet. I forgot.

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 17/06/2012 23:24

A question mark would've helped me.

OP posts:
Pan · 18/06/2012 00:06

Sorry BB, of course you are right. The question mark would have been really useful.

I'm also guessing the lack of a possessive apostrophe after 'Prokofiev' would have helped as well....Grin

as an equally useless aside, I do have the pleasure of working along side ( and she is a really good worker) one of Prokofiev's great grand-daughters, who carries his surname, and she has a very Russian fore-name. And she is very graceful at explaining the connection every time it comes up. Which is often.

And..good riddance to our Dutch friends....pegs being brought down seems to fit.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/06/2012 22:08

Thoughts on your fixtures?

Oblomov · 19/06/2012 21:57

Everyone at my work was slagging Parker. I thought that was unfair.

Pan · 19/06/2012 22:41

Fixtures for next season?? KDDDD, we can't multi-task! Euros first, then 2012-13!

Parker - well, yes and no - he has been chosen for his aptitudes, which don't include doing anything wonderous going forward. He's stuck in and done what Roy has asked of him. It's a management decision.
I thought Rooney was lucky to stay on as long as he did but you can see why the decision was made - to sharpen him up with time played. But quite why Milner and Young stayed on I'm a bit baffled, with Oxe and Walcott availalable. And..warming to a theme..why put on Carroll in those circs when the 'big punt up' was not going to be a plan?
But it's nice to be so critical after group-topping has been achieved!!

Pan · 19/06/2012 23:33

There's also the saying in tournaments about the need to 'taste the turf'. Jagaielka (sp?) and Defoe and a couple of others will be a bit starved and would need some time to eat, which Italy and poss Germany games won't be kind to them.

BelfastBloke · 19/06/2012 23:33

The 'big punt up' is always a plan when 'Stevie G' is on the pitch.

OP posts:
Pan · 19/06/2012 23:43

Yes, I guess so but the likely outsource was going to be a counter-attack, and the Arse relay squad plus Defoe (is he back?) would be best, imho-hate-to-defy-St. Roy-though.

Hullygully · 20/06/2012 18:13

oh. You weren't joking.

Every other thread only has about 5 posts.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/06/2012 20:06
