There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

I feel really sorry for the Irish. They haven't played badly and I don't think the Croatians look especially brilliant...

Pan · 10/06/2012 22:33

I think Ireland were pretty much out played. Apart from a brief period in the 2nd half they struggled to put 3-4 continuous passes together. And much less so in the Croation half. There was a clear pen though, yes?

BelfastBloke · 11/06/2012 01:28

Ah, bollocks.

It is odd that saying "we're really rubbish." is providing the basis to the belief that "we're actually not that bad." Final, winning proof that perspective is everything.

BelfastBloke · 11/06/2012 12:58

Pan, I didn't understand your last post. Who are you talking about?

I also don't understand what you're saying about the photos of you in the Kiev Olympic stadium. Who have you sent them to? To MNHQ?

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick today.

OP posts:
Pan · 11/06/2012 13:03

Eng-er-land and the levitation of expectations based in not having any!

Sorry BB, you are being a bit thick today....kidding.

yes but MNHQ have indicated they need to be in JPEG format.

Pan · 11/06/2012 13:07

btw been saying how much I liked Prometheus in 3-D at weekend, though most others are saying it was rubbish...

BelfastBloke · 11/06/2012 13:13

And if MNHQ are able to convert them to JPeGs, then what? Will it become the new logo of MN?

Yeah, it is encouraging that England have few expectations for a change. I expect great things from Downing, for example.

OP posts:
Pan · 11/06/2012 13:36

If England are doing the counter-attack thing then Carroll will be out, Danny Boy in and one of Oxe or Theo. Or both if a game is being chased. Was it 3-0 at Wembley? England Expects Not A Lot.

BelfastBloke · 11/06/2012 15:42

Yeah, bring Carroll on for the last desperate 20min, when England (esp Gerrard) keep lofting long balls anyway. Where's Crouchie when you need him?

OP posts:
Pan · 11/06/2012 15:56

Oxe is in start line up. Surprise.

Travelling home for first half. Tell them to play keep ball until I get home.

Pan · 11/06/2012 19:28

Ox was gooood. England did what they planned to do?

BelfastBloke · 11/06/2012 22:53

Ox was OK. More to come, I trust.

BelfastBloke · 13/06/2012 17:49

Come on Denmark!

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 13/06/2012 18:59

Ah, Bendtner was so nearly on his way to being the top scorer in the tournament. If Denmark had had a draw they could've got out of the group. Now it'll be difficult.

OP posts:
Pan · 14/06/2012 08:53

BB - I presume the pro-Danish sentiment underscores the wish to not have Roben or Van Bommel adorning our screens anymore? Later it was odd to find myself hoping for a German win at footie.

whatkungfuthat · 14/06/2012 10:22

Anyone care about Harry? I'm distraught Sad

DanFmDorking · 14/06/2012 10:29

Harry Redknapp ...

... is rumoured to have negotiated a 3 million severance payment from Spurs.
After tax this works out at er, 3 million pounds.

... the first manager in history to have buckled under the pressure of the England job without actually having it.

whatkungfuthat · 14/06/2012 10:56

I heard he did have it but it was his wife that put the kibosh on it. Perhaps that's why Levy hates him? None of the suggested replacements are exactly thrilling.

BelfastBloke · 14/06/2012 13:36

Yeah, Robben is very irritating.

Actually, Germany and Denmark might well come to some sort of (spoken or unspoken) agreement in their final group game. They can arrange it so that they both go through, at the expense of Portugal and Holland.

Why should we care about Harry? It's certainly a bad idea for Spurs, just like when they sacked Martin Jol (it was him, wasn't it?) who had got them to their highest position for years. They immediately plummeted, and didn't recover until Harry joined them.

OP posts:
Pan · 14/06/2012 20:12

Maybe Ireland could benefit from "The English Factor" in this game i.e. we're so rubbish and have such low expectations, that this alone could make us world-beaters......or something like that...

BelfastBloke · 14/06/2012 21:10

That hasn't worked out too well so far.

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 14/06/2012 21:43

Big fat hairy bollix

BelfastBloke · 14/06/2012 22:38

You were expecting something else?

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/06/2012 05:24

Not really! Shay Given must be knackered.
