I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year for the first time. For anyone who doesn't know it's a challenge to write 50k words in 30 days, starting on 1 November and ending on 30 Nov. Is anyone else doing it this year?
belledechocolatefluffybunny · 02/10/2010 18:39
Hi
I've not heard of this one. I've written some childrens books (nothing published yet), I can write 2k in an hour or so if I get started on something so I think it can be done. Find something that really interests you though.
Best of luck
TorturesInAHalfHell · 22/10/2010 12:48
I was just wondering where the Nano thread was!
i am SO IN this year, because I've lost my job and will in all likelihood be unemployed throughout November if not longer so if I can write around the demands of a toddler, I really want to.
I've succeeded once before, in 2002ish, but that was when I had no job, no toddler, and I spent I think 4 hours a day writing? I had a whole system, it was such a fun month.
Anyone else?
Bumperlicious · 22/10/2010 12:57
Not with a newborn but did it 2 years ago. Never got round to editing it though as i was too too shit! Got an idea for next time.
Good luck!
TorturesInAHalfHell · 22/10/2010 13:02
I never edited mine, either. It was a pretty lazy piece of work, but it did astound me how, with the pressure on, I could actually write - albeit shallow characters and a relatively predictable plot, but still better than i'd feared.
I'm going to shamelessly bump this, I want friends.
coppertop · 22/10/2010 13:05
I've done it for the past 4 years. I'm hoping to give it another go this year too but things are a bit hectic here at the moment so I'm not 100% sure.
ninah · 22/10/2010 19:12
I am thinking of it this year, I really need a kick up the backside
and hi coppertop, you won't remember esp as I was called something else but you gave me some v kind advice of the relationship kind about 6 years ago
tortoise I remember reading your thread about job etc and thinking you'd make a top writer, go for it!
TottWriter · 23/10/2010 07:50
Hiya! I'm NaNoing this year! [insane emoticon]
I'm not aiming for the full 50k, as DS is 2 and DD is three months, but I can't not sign up and make a go of it. If anyone is interested in being a writing buddy, I'm "copperchimes" on the NaNo site.
LizLemon · 23/10/2010 11:59
I'm in as well. Haven't written a lick since I finished my MA three years ago, so I figured it would be a kick up the arse, especially with a 1 yr old. Of course for the final weekend we're up north with my family so that's 4 days lost already....
I have no plot or anything, since I only decided a couple of days ago. Anyone else making a plan?
writing buddies welcome btw - jollylion is my username :)
coppertop · 23/10/2010 17:18
Ninah - I have no idea what I said but hope that everything turned out well for you. :)
I usually try to have at least a rough outline but this year I have absolutely nothing.
I'm Copperdragon on the Nano site if anyone wants to add me.
ninah · 23/10/2010 21:41
you gave me a bit of support and perspective on my then relationship
I am now single and v happy!
I have a vague idea of plot, but not too sure I will manage the word count tbh, I prefer to write more slowly
I am PrometheusBound on site
ninah · 23/10/2010 21:50
I've added you three
tortoise? happywl?
TorturesInAHalfHell · 25/10/2010 02:42
Ok, wonderful, I'm in. Signed up new, because I couldn't remember old username, so I'm tortoiseonthehalfshell there as well. I think I've added you all.
I have a "plan" in the sense that I have two scribbled pages in a notebook. Which notebook, I'm not entirely sure, but it'll turn up. It's the harrowing tale of a woman in her thirties who screws up and loses her job. I'm very imaginative like that.

Had the same problem trying to remember old username - have problems remembering many things these days.
Finally confessed to DH that I was going to do this and he thinks it's a great idea. How great he'll think it is on November 13th, when he hasn't had a hot meal in almost two weeks...oh wait - I'm rubbish as a housewife anyway so he'll barely notice
Found the adopt a plot forum last night on the site so might end up resorting to that [no shame emoticon]
redhappy · 25/10/2010 16:59
Oh I'm so glad I've seen this!
I really wanted to do it last year but it was too much to take on at the time. I had forgotten all about it.
Not written anything substantial before but if I don't try something like this I think I could procrastinate forever.
What kind of preparation do you all do before the start date?
redhappy · 25/10/2010 20:26
I have joined now, my username is rosiejoy. I can't see how to add buddies though?

Leonie, the next few months are likely to hold much of the same for me, but not YET so I am determined to give this a go before that side of life takes over.
We have paed appointment on the 8th but otherwise November is clear so far (fingers crossed!)
Maybe keep a little notebook, so if you have any ideas you can jot them down, then forget about them til you have more time?
Good Luck

Leonie you can always just keep us company here if you want encouragement for December, and you never know - you might even write a few words before November is out. And a notebook is a really good idea - with all you've got going on five minutes imagining might be welcome.
Rosie - I've added you. Easiest way to find someone is to do a search, and then click the profile and you can add someone from there. Or you can check my profile and add people from there.
Still haven't done any prep. But a man cleaned my carpets yesterday. That's got to count for something.
TorturesInAHalfHell · 26/10/2010 07:28
Leonie, I have liked you as a poster for about a million years but we're never posting in the same time zone. For that reason alone can I persuade you to join in? Um, I realise that's not very persuasive.

Oooh hello, can I join you? I have never done this before. I have had a plot and some characters in my head for an age but need something to give me a kick up the bum.
I have signed in as artyfarty - can I be your friend, please? [coy emoticon]

Ok, I have added everyone I think. This means it is real and now I have to do it!
Started working on some ideas yesterday. I like to have things planned out so there's no room for writer's block.
