Jojo Dullard went missing in 1995!

That was way after the mother and baby homes .

I remember when she actually went missing. I don't remember anything bad being said about her, or her being called a runaway or wild.

I remember that people were very worried about her

Edited

The last mother and baby home closed around 1996 I think.
Edited to say I just googled it, it was 1998.

They definitely weren't common in the mid 90s though. I lived through that time.

My auntie had baby at that time and she wasn't married. No one cared

Dontlletmedownbruce · 12/11/2024 13:44

I know the homes were all closed by then but I'm just speculating was there still a culture of not caring about women going missing. I don't know. Just a thought...

Her poor family and friends.

It was definitely less common but still happened. Attitudes started to change after Ann Lovett passed away.

Yeah there definitely was still misogyny in Ireland in the 1990s.

Liv999 · 12/11/2024 13:45

It's disgusting the whole lot of it, to think this man could have been caught 29 years ago and what this family have gone through since, this country makes me sick at times

jouxlake · 12/11/2024 13:48

Read elsewhere the gardai were given another 24hours to question him.

Me too. Its not just in ireland i know. But it is in Ireland.

The level of corruption and nastiness in Ireland is awful. I was just reading a book not long ago about the Dalkey house of horrors.

The woman who wrote the book said that her parents brought her to parties when she was a child.

At the party , she said that Gardai and prominent men in the local Irish community raped her

Irish Examiner reported he is being released.

Edited to add, I think this is not accurate. it was posted on Reddit.

Fucking typical.

RevelryMum · 12/11/2024 13:54

@Dontlletmedownbruce don't forget Simon Harris would know as well he also stepped in as justice minister didn't he when Helen McEntee was on maternity leave . How people vote them in is beyond me.

Lisanoonan · 12/11/2024 13:55

Is he being released? There are conflicting news reports.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 12/11/2024 14:06

@RevelryMum that's true. It's a bit of a coincidence just before an election too, (if it was known) That indicates that the opposition knew too and were waiting for the right moment. So how many people knew!?

RevelryMum · 12/11/2024 14:08

@Dontlletmedownbruce also just seen this didnt realise so many had run for the hills

JoJo Dullard
Lisanoonan · 12/11/2024 14:08

I think the arrest is just for show too.

Knowing what they're like, they'll just let him go again.

Havalona · 12/11/2024 14:34

They only have a certain amount of time after arrest to interrogate and either release or charge. I don't know if that time is now up.

If released, he could be conveniently re arrested after the General Election.

The publicity surrounding such cases can cause a frenzy of speculation, and then nada. Reminds me of the time Trevor Deely's body was supposed to be buried in a field near Chapelizod. Big publicity, big frenzy of speculation, then nothing.

Sad isn't it that families might be hopeful of a resolution and then not.

Its a bit of a stupid rule that they only have a couple of days to ask him questions.

They'll have loads of questions to ask him after 29 years. How would they get through them all in a couple of days.

Wildbird12 · 12/11/2024 14:53

I remember reading (in the Sunday Independent I think) a few years after she had gone missing that Jojo had been having an affair...I remember thinking 'how is that relevant?' She was painted as 'a bit wild'...which must have horrified her family as they always maintained she was a very quiet girl.

Oh please, please let them find her body and give her heartbroken family closure.

MarieDeGournay · 12/11/2024 14:53

Looking for information? On Reddit and X?? Good luck with that.

It looks like a mixture of guesswork, gossip, fantasy, conspiracy theories, malice and let's implicate the Usual Suspects, Leo Varadkar and Helen McEntee - and oh look here's a new one: Heather Humphries, and 17 other FG TDs, just because they resigned recently!

It's not only speculative gossip, it's also dangerous because it could jeopardise the trial, and all that X and Reddit stuff could result in the monster who did this going free, denying justice for JoJo and her poor family.

I disagree. I've seen facts on X.

And it's not jut gossip by Joe on the street on X.

There are intelligent commentators and important people taking about it on X

No one intelligent/important/informed will be naming names on Twitter, not at this stage.

Wildbird12 · 12/11/2024 15:03

The suspect is still in custody but must be charged or released this afternoon.

It is correct that the police can only hold anyone for a certain amount of time without charge. You can't lock people up indefinitely without due cause.

They will have known how long they'll have to question him and planned accordingly. They'll also be granted extra time if needed.

Havalona · 12/11/2024 15:05

Release and file to DPP maybe?

Ah now, the resignation of 17 TDs from one party is pretty much unprecedented in Irish history. Some were obviously expected retirements but several have raised eyebrows. It's not unreasonable to speculate that a scandal was brewing. Whether this is it remains to be seen, perhaps we will never know.
Most of what has been discussed was information already released by her family. Though I agree that some posts have given information that potentially identifies the man arrested and should be deleted.
