I think in fairness a lack of child protection and blind eye to abuses within families was a common place thing, just as bad in UK as in Ireland.

Yes. At the end of the day, many many adults are abusive to children, simply because they can be.

They have more physical strength and power than children

Wendysfriend · 12/11/2024 20:39

There's too much covering up happening in this Country. We really shouldn't stand for it. Just look at the Mary Boyle case, more politicians, this time finna fail and Gardai.

Over40Overdating · 13/11/2024 10:17

I was told it was this guy not long after JoJo disappeared by someone who has stuck to the story all this time - where and how he buried her, who his father was and how he was so protected he bragged about it. How everyone local to that area knew and knew nothing would be done as long as his father was alive. His father died 2 years ago.

All these years I thought it was an urban legend because I couldn’t believe the system was that corrupt. Put so little value on women’s lives.

The scar is alleged to have been caused on the same day JoJo disappeared and was fresh on his face when he was first questioned, as he was the last person to see her alive and a witness saw him talking to her.

All this time. Poor JoJo. Her poor family. I still don’t think they’ll make it stick.

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 10:21

I was just reading a bit more about him.

He was the last person to give her a lift to the phone box.

But is there any evidence other than that , to make him a suspect.

jouxlake · 13/11/2024 11:05

I think it will be very difficult after so many years, but they must have something new to be able to get a search warrant, or maybe not something new, but something that was 'overlooked on purpose' for the past 29 years. I wonder if his car was ever examined at the time? probably not.

deeahgwitch · 13/11/2024 11:19

I am so saddened and angered by what Jo Jo's family have been put through.
That poor girl, born after her father died and then losing her mother so young Sad.
For her then to be killed in horrific circumstances. Tragic.

But why didn't the many decent men in the Gardai band together and say "Enough is enough. We're not allowing murderers and rapists get off scot free because of who they are related to or what influence they have in political or policing circles ".

There's another infamous case in the far south west of the country involving a wee baby.......

I believe whistleblowers should be feted, not shunned as is so often the case, sadly, in this country of ours.

Maurice Mc Cabe and the like =🏆

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 11:28

I have no illusions about the gardai in Ireland.

I met a woman once in Ireland. who told me an awful story. Her parents had been abusers

She said that her parents used to bring her to 'parties ' when she was a child, in the Wicklow mountains. There was an active paedophile ring there

These parties were paedophile parties, and she said that the men at them were men in power..She said that some of the men at these parties were Gardai.

This woman was destroyed from it all, when I talked to her.

Over40Overdating · 13/11/2024 11:44

@jouxlake the theory is the current arrest was to apply pressure on the 29th anniversary in the hopes he’ll crack. He never will. Why would he? He appears to have been bragging about getting away with it for 29 years despite being questioned and the last known person to see her. Without a body, what can they do, realistically?

What does need to be set down now is the red herring of Larry Murphy. He’s done enough evil without being falsely connected to this to cover for the real murderer.

MullerDuller · 13/11/2024 11:50

Even with a body, unless it was found on his land, it would be difficult to convict. I don't think DNA evidence would survive 3 decades.

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 11:52

I don't think they should have arrested him again then, because a lot of people in ireland thought he was finally going to be charged.

And it gave the family false hope that something new was happening

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 11:53

What they should do is get an external review into how the garden handled it at the time

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 12:14

Oh my God if my phone autocorrects Gardai to Garden one more time

RevelryMum · 13/11/2024 12:19

I wonder if they have or could get someone he confessed too over the years ? Seems to me without him admitting it now might be the only way to charge him ?

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 12:21

Fucking gardai are so corrupt. He's got away with this.

I'm sorry for you Jojo

Over40Overdating · 13/11/2024 12:38

@RevelryMum I’ve been reading a lot of Reddit threads this morning - One theory is an alibi has been rescinded which happened in a previous long running case, and resulted in a man being arrested and charged for the murder of a woman.

Some really interesting / depressing stuff particularly on witnesses the gardi never followed up on, despite what appear to be very clear sightings of a naked women running down the road in Moone after the time JoJo called her friend.

I hope there’s some resolution.

Oh Jesus that's horrific !

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 12:40

The gardai are useless. They couldn't find a murderer if he was right in front of them

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 12:42

RevelryMum · 13/11/2024 12:39

Yeah I read about the sighting of the naked woman.

Whoever saw it said that the gardai were not interested in it, as they had a sighting putting jojo further away at that time. The second sighting was not her I think. But the naked woman was.

ChamberPot · 13/11/2024 12:45

There was something online about how one garda told the family early on that they knew who had done it, how he'd wrapped the body in plastic and buried it ten feet down on the family farm with a digger. But they had been instructed not to charge him.

That would be horrific if true.

How would the gardai know.

Unless maybe the killer got really drunk and spilled the beans one night

Over40Overdating · 13/11/2024 13:04

@Lisanoonan i think it was a truck driver.

Re the Garda telling her family - maybe someone breaking rank out of decency or telling them the reality of the situation to make them shut up and go away?

The details the guard shared are very close to what I was told over 25 years ago by someone local. And they were clear the suspect was bragging about it - he knew he was untouchable.

JoJo’s sister also told how the Gardaí released details of JoJo’s abortion to blacken her reputation and paint a picture of a wild woman who probably got what she was asking for. Similar defence men in power have used for centuries to get away with abusing women.

Maybe the current team will redeem the actions of their predecessors.

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 13:07

Well even if he doesn't charged, surely this man will be given a bit of a hard time by some locals.

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 13:07

I was on a hike in the wicklow mountains two weeks ago. I was just thinking how beautiful it was, but how unsafe and dangerous it looks at the same time.

It definitely looks like a place in Ireland where a killer would go to hide something.

Lisanoonan · 13/11/2024 13:10

Talking about another similiar case for a second.

I wonder why Larry M didn't get charged for deirdre Jacobs murder. He confessed the murder to a cellmate.

I'm sure prison confessions have been used to charge people in the United States before.

Larry M told this inmate that he put children's toys into the front seat of his car, to make him look safe. Then he approached women. He said that he approached deirdre Jacob to ask her for directions, then pulled her into the car
