They need a normal, more conservative leader to save the party, they have swung much too far to the left. They need a slightly more conservative leader to centre themselves again & get back their core electorate

Coveney's their best hope, pity about the mess-up with his brother and RTE. Kenny was rural too.

Coveney is the only suitable candidate as far as I can see. But I'm not sure even with him at the helm they'd win a GE. Surely there'll be one asap?

I wonder if there's some scandal about to break around Leo? or is it just the fallout from the referendum.

@DeanElderberry I agree but as @Owannanassiam said he may be too rural for the Dubs especially with Michael Martin being from Cork too..

He did sound distinctly as though someone had sidled up and whispered 'fly, all is discovered'. He has landed FG in even deeper stinky stuff - getting a new leader, then getting behind the new leader, then preparing for a general election in the space of about 7 months is a big challenge - even without the local elections in the middle of it.

Let's not forget that during the Leadership of Fine Gael campaign last time the Fine Gael members throughout the country favoured Simon Coveney but the Fine Gael TDs and Senators wanted Leo.

Really hope this starts a tsunami of resignations.. As the saying goes it starts from the top down...

FG's polling numbers have been dropping for a while. Many of the rural party faithful of both FG and FF were probably horrified that they went into a coalition in the first place. They have both now become indistinguishable from eachother.

Leo's basically deserting a sinking ship...

As glad as I am to see the back of him (and I'm praying that O'Gorman follows suit albeit he's a different party) I honestly can't see what party could win a GE. When we consider it took 5 counts to get Leo in last time, and SIX counts to get O'Gorman and McEntee... I don't know who I'd vote for. It's a shitshow 😖
