Seemingly there's going to be an announcement at noon of the "political earthquake" type.

Kevin Doyle on X: "Told this closely guarded secret will be significant. People being contacted since 6am to coordinate - but for now it’s all being kept within government buildings. Political ‘earthquake': major announcement expected from Government at noon t.co/73Cyp7c9ms" / X (twitter.com)

Hold on to your hats, lads and ladesses!

"....We as a society need much stronger antisocial laws and consequences from the start."

Absolutely @DublinFemale but in a week when a GAA "star" gets a suspended sentence for an appalling unprovoked attack on a young man and a disgusting flasher gets a suspended sentenced for displaying himself to 4 young girls and causing them extreme distress also gets a suspended sentence I won't hold my breath that those tough laws will happen. AngrySadAngrySad

I see talk of Harris focusing on "Law and Order" and I wonder how that works when the courts seem so hands-off when these cases come before them. Public masturbation is a gateway offence. How do they not know that and treat it with the seriousness it deserves? And as for the notion that any association with the GAA is some sort of character reference ... don't get me started.

And while all this is going on the great & the good think their draconian Hate Crimes Bill is going to sort out what ails us. Give me strength!

I 100% concur.

DublinFemale · 24/03/2024 11:29

@LadyEloise1

I would go out on a limb and say we probably have those laws and consequences, judges are most likely not implementing them.

That's apparent when we see daily people with double and triple figure convictions still walk of court after putting on a sob story

Rubydiamond23 · 30/03/2024 00:00

And LV resignation announced the very same day as the "payment" scheme opened for SOME Mother and Baby home residents - a convenient deflection to take any chance of adopted people being discussed out of the media spotlight

the scheme to which 24,000 people such as myself have been excluded for no valid reason

The word "redress" is not used, presumably as that might indicate an acknowledgement of a historical wrong that was being righted and we couldn't have that now, could we?!

Again as a PP mentioned, timing of major announcements appears to be not coincidental .. I try not to be cynical but .... 50 years of seeing a pattern while being a second class citizen in my own country may have made me a little sceptical

LadyEloise1 · 30/03/2024 09:07

I'm sorry @Rubydiamond23 but journalists and their editors make a decision what news to focus on.
They have chosen not to highlight this issue. Sad
Imho they are culpable too. Angry

Rubydiamond23 · 30/03/2024 12:17

That is totally true

It makes me.wonder WHY though, what's going on in the background with the " powers that be" in this country, from politicians to clergy to media editors.. a lot of big secrets that many want to keep.hidden.. in some cases probably for financial reasons .

StephanieSuperpowers · 30/03/2024 12:42

Or because they just aren't interested. This is only about a bunch of women and their kids.

OP posts:
DublinFemale · 30/03/2024 13:39

@StephanieSuperpowers is correct, women and children in this country simply do not matter.

The portal scheme has been a head melt and the paper version is up to 20 pages long.

There whole portal debacle has been crazy quiet.

Taytocrisps · 02/04/2024 11:47

Coveney is stepping down from Cabinet also. What the hell is going on?

Taytocrisps · 02/04/2024 11:48

I had to double check that today is the 2nd April and not still the 1st April!

DanielGault · 02/04/2024 11:56

I've just heard this, wtf?

That doesn't surprise me, actually.

Is it just him waiting in the long grass for things to go tits up for Harris?

DeanElderberry · 02/04/2024 18:38

Something does seem to be broken in Fine Gael.

StephanieSuperpowers · 02/04/2024 19:07

Their polling may have reminded them that their core constituency swings conservative and unlikely to appreciate the extent to which they've lost the run of themselves with the greens.

OP posts:
DeanElderberry · 02/04/2024 19:51

And that conservative in Ireland is not exactly the same thing as Tory.

DanielGault · 02/04/2024 19:53

It's an awful pity the left is so fragmented.

DeanElderberry · 02/04/2024 20:05

Yup. Though if Alan Kelly comes asking for a vote for a Labour candidate, in the locals or euros, I will bend his ear. He has nothing to lose, and he can be quite articulate if he chooses.

He's dead in the water imo.

DeanElderberry · 02/04/2024 20:07

That's why I said nothing to lose. He can still get the odd media airing if he looks for one.

He has zero charisma though. Labour need better.

DeanElderberry · 02/04/2024 20:23

They do, and Ivana is definitely not it. AK came across surprisingly well during the RTE cross examinations. Admittedly, that was compared to Mattie McGrath et al.

StephanieSuperpowers · 02/04/2024 20:32

Ivana is so disappointing.

OP posts:
DanielGault · 02/04/2024 20:43

Labour are always tripping the wire between the working class and the lefties though. It must be a hard place to be. Ivana def doesn't appeal to old school labour.
