😅if I never hear the words 'durable relationship' again, it will be too soon.

lol. Gosh the government look silly now.

There is a legislative proposal written in union with the The Countess and Peadar Tobin to have prisons sex based.

The legal status is GRA trumps biological sex.

There was definitely a convicted sex offender incarcerated in Limerick prison with BK. Could be released by now, sexual offence sentencing are not exactly taken seriously by judges.

There was also a sex offender in Mountjoy prison, who had a prison officer assigned to them every time they left their single cell. Apparently this was to protect him from the scary female prisoners.

Currently also a trans woman can insist on a female prison guard to complete the strip search, officers cannot refuse.

This is part of an email response when I queried this issue a few years ago from the Prison Service. I've highlighted the really annoying bits:

The Irish Prison Service is responsible for the safe and secure custody of all persons held in prison and have previous experience dealing with such committals.
Where a court makes an order committing a person to a prison, the Irish Prison Service must accept that person into custody in whichever prison is specified by the court.
All prisoners committed to Prison are accommodated in accordance with their legal gender.
On arrival to prison, all prisoners are brought to the reception/committal unit of the prison, where there is an opportunity to provide details as part of the committal interview process and this information is recorded.
The assessment of the prisoner’s needs may require a Prison Governor to consider the biological gender, legal gender, gender identity, transgender, gender expression, sexual orientation or gender recognition legislation.
The Prison Governor will also consider the risks posed including any risk to the prisoner themselves and any level of risk to other prisoners. This risk assessment will determine the regime necessary to ensure the safety of all prisoners and may include the accommodation of the prisoner on a restricted regime under Rule 63 of the Prison Rules 2007.
In such cases, the Governor may also make a recommendation on the appropriate placement within the prison system, taking into consideration good order, security and operational issues, protection issues, available accommodation and the healthcare needs of the prisoner as well as the safety and security of other prisoners and staff.

From the sounds of it, they will only be moved if it is determined they are a risk to others. Which is not enough in my opinion - they shouldn't be there in the first place. Why are they waiting for another prisoner or staff to be attacked before they take action. Why do female prisoners and prison officers have to deal with intimidation and discomfort, and upholding a farce?

And WTF is biological gender? We need a repeal the GRC campaign, as well as a campaign to implement sex based protection in our Equality laws. The problem is, pretty much no politician is going to take this on. None of the main parties (including SF) will touch this, they are all vehemently TWAW.

DublinFemale · 09/03/2024 15:01

I wonder how many politicians actually agreed, let's be honest it's not like anyone could tell what they were really thinking.

No voters would be piled on if they said it.

I can honestly say, I said yes to anyone who asked , only here was I honest.

It simply wasn't it the drama that would evidently follow

DeanElderberry · 09/03/2024 15:02

minus what
plus if

DublinFemale · 09/03/2024 15:04

Now bring on the supreme court case next month.

If courts rule in favour that will definitely let money carers pockets.

The means test will technically be null and void if o understand correctly

DanielGault · 09/03/2024 15:05

The day is dragging in waiting for the half three coverage. If they continue with the 'didn't understand ' narrative my laptop could well be be going out the window.

DanielGault · 09/03/2024 15:06

I wonder what poor sods will be wheeled out. Surely not the 'A listers'?

DeanElderberry · 09/03/2024 15:08

Not wanting to tell people you were planing to vote 'no' reminds me of the vibe before the abortion referendum, where the media was so full of reports of how repressive and judgmental rural communities were, that the only place I felt able to express my view (I don't like abortion but recognise that some women have very hard choices and didn't think the constitution should have any say in how they made them) was

in the church porch as we left mass on the Sunday before the vote.

And people agreed with me. RTE and a lot of the press commentators seem very keen on spreading alarm and social division.

I think this is a real problem when discussing social and political issues these days. People are too ready to shout something down as far right, extremist etc. So many people don't say how they really feel.

It's not as easy to just agree to disagree. And it's getting harder to criticise or question something (even in good faith) without being made to feel like you're a bad person.

It's sad because having a robust debate on issues can be so useful, but too often it descends into person insults, or attacking the messenger...

Iloveshihtzus · 09/03/2024 15:10

Well we can be confident that there will be no repeat of the exuberance of 2018 or 2015 outside Dublin Castle.

DublinFemale · 09/03/2024 15:11

I agree, a good debate where both sides listen can have people change sides or at least find common ground.

That depends on the forum really though doesn't it. There are some places where there is still the opportunity for respectful debate, but they are few and far between unfortunately.

But, but, but the government said vote yes.

We couldn't possibly understand or know our own minds. It must be lacking of understanding.

Where is LV heading to Washington to hand over the shamrock.

Oh, ok. Of course. I was worried I'd venture to think for myself there for a minute 😂

Honestly I feel like I'm in a parallel universe when I'm wholeheartedly agreeing with Michael McDowell but here we are.

DublinFemale · 09/03/2024 15:36

So KV is on RTE saying they can help carers without the referendum win.

m.independent.ie/irish-news/referendums/yes-vote-in-care-referendum-would-mean-more-supports-for-carers-says-social-protection-minister-heather-humphreys/a293345263.html

Heather Humphrey's saying they couldn't last week

VoteNONO · 09/03/2024 15:37

Agree with this wholeheartedly, Roderic needs to resign or a vote of no confidence needs to be sprung on him
. Also re Sinn Féin, they jumped on the virtue signalling bandwagon advocating the Yes vote despite saying they didn't agree with it. Shame oh all of them
